Is this available at all to the people who bought the imperial edition like i did? Or is it a very rare drop for us?

Anyone with the Imperial edition can CONVERT any armor to look Imperial but its now bound (no trade)
Any player can get the Imperial Motif and then make Imperial armor which is tradeable. If you want to make tradeable Imperial looking armor, you need the motif, no matter want version of the game you own

Yes i know that, but I'm working up to be a dedicated crafter for others and the convert option is not an option then. :/

small correction though, you can't convert any armor; there are some exceptions... not sure how the exceptions are determined; I think it's the dropped sets at least that can't be changed; I also know you can't change the weapons you find on the table in the coldharbour tutorial.

As far as I know it's a common motif just like the other nine. On my way to level 50 I found two or three of them.

Same here, I have three chars who learned all the other common motifs and only actually bought like two books. The others I've either found myself or traded for motifs I had already learned, but I've never found or seen anyone offering the Imperial Motif. For me personally it's thankfully not that bad, since I not only have the imperial edition, but also never liked that "roman" style, it's still a bummer for people who want it though.

From complaints I've seen on here there are more that can't than can.

I have found 9 of the 10 common motifs so far. some I have found multiple times. But the Imperial motif I have only seen drop once and that was just two weeks or so ago.

Only unique drops, dropped sets and quest rewards can't be converted. Anything that can be crafted can be converted.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I don't believe this is accurate, anyone with the imperial edition can play an imperial, and like all other races they can craft their own races style without the motif.

Indeed, but if you want to make a character of another race your gear crafter, even if you own the IE, you will need the motif.

I was foolish. I thought the Imperial motif would be a basic one, that would drop as easily as the 1-9 motifs, and made my Orsimer my gear crafter. Now people are asking 50k for the imperial motif, and with 6 traits researched for a few pieces of gear, I am not rerolling. Sigh. I guess I deserve it for not knowing better.

well on the plus side I don't like the imperial armor...
for heavy I prefer the look of breton mixed with a bit of redguard
for medium I prefer a mix of breton and bosmer
light armor.. surprise surprise.. breton and altmer...

as you may have noticed I like the look of the breton armors :p

weapons and shield wise altmer all the way
