I would imagine they are like dolmen and if no one activates it, it rotates to one of the others after set length of time.

Interesting, I didn't know they did that.

If that's actually the case, I'd be interested to know what that length of time is.
I've watched dolmens and geysers for near an hour without a rotation occurring, so it must be a long time before it happens.

I know dolmen is about 20 minutes if no one starts it. I know that from Malabal Tor since almost no one does the one up north on the little island, and that's about how long I have sat at the next one when farming Spinner jewelry back when it used to sell for a lot of gold. I would just park at the next one semi-afk and wait until it rotated. I know this is anecdotal and no way scientific, but I don't feel like carrying out a controlled experiment. Can I absolutely prove that no one attacked the one way up north and took about 20 minutes to kill it each day I was farming, no. I did farm it long enough and had it be around 20 minutes enough times to feel fairly confident though.

The currently active dolmens change icon on the map. I don't know if it's the same for geysers. Sometimes you can catch them in time if people aren't already there. Otherwise, they rotate in a set pattern.

I know dolmen is about 20 minutes if no one starts it.

I've sat at dolmens and geysers and harrowstorms, etc., lots of times for a lot longer than 20 minutes waiting for other players to come along. It's gotta be closer to at least twice that long before they rotate due to non-engagement.

*My perception of time may be skewed from just sitting there idle for so long (which can mess with your head), so I could very easily be wrong, but 20 minutes seems short compared to how long I've sat waiting. It has been a while since I've done that, but I am still curious as to the actual time it takes.

I timed >60 minutes at one specific geyser which, according to the received wisdom I found at the time of rotation on a 15 min timer should have been next up, but with no activity. And I've seen the exact same Volcanic Vent in High Isle immediately run back-to-back at least 3 times in a row.

It's cause non-dolmens are not on a pattern,so one geyser may not spawn for hours. Also,in places like skyrim, the harrowstorms can also be underground in Blackreach which make it look like they not spawning.

Dolmens should pop after 5 minutes of Idle if you approach them. True, I think only one can be up at a time, but the 5 minute timer has been in the game for years. Most of the time any Dolmen I approach in a quiet zones pops on approach. But, a dolmen that popped but is not engaged can stay active for 10 or more minutes. So that could impact other dolmens popping in that same zone.

With Geyers and Vents it is pure RNG, but only one can be up at a time. I have also had a Vent pop off repeatedly. Today one did that to me while I was managing inventory.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I've had vents double up often enough that I try to remember to wait and see if it will again. I'm not sure if geysers are similar
