Golden Pursuits cut by Maintenance?

I was planning on finishing my Golden Pursuits this morning, since the window to complete the pursuits closes at 10 AM EST according to the official announcement.

The maintenance effectively robbed me of the opportunity to finish this, why schedule a maintenance just before an event's deadline? or why set the deadline to a day where there would be maintenance? I feel betrayed :(

They explained in the maintenance announcement to get your golden pursuits done early as there would be a maintenance happening.

It is unfortunate. They explain in the post in the banner at the top of the forum (I missed it, too):

I don't check regularly for maintenance announcements so I just went with what I was told in the event announcement...

It is what it is. Now you know for next time, especially as maintenance usually has a habit of abruptly ending events for people.

Right now should be part of that "plenty of time" :( They announce a specific time and then not respect it. :/

I'd agree with that if they posted said warning through the same channels where they posted about the event. Not everyone sees the forums, but much more people are exposed to the event announceement article.

It’s awful when something is cut short by maintenance, but in General, this was posted by a forum member several days ago, and I posted in the topic last night just to bring it back to the top to help people see it since an outfit of the Goddess of Love was at stake:

Maintenance has always taken priority over stated deadlines, just the way it is.

It 'would' be nice if they could put the 'scheduled maintenance' notices somewhere in 'Announcements' though, for people who don't know about the forums.

      ...

Well, I guess that's the way it goes, I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm planning for an event-locked achievement.

On a side note on that, I find it very amusing when an event deadline ends with the servers live, those last minutes when everyone is in the event zone, rushing to get as many rewards as possible and how people start to countdown on zone chat is fun to be a part of.

the news server bot that some of the guilds have is super helpful. if your guild doesn't have this in their discord server you should see if they will get one. most have it set up in its own little channel so that's all that is there. it posts the endeavors and dungeon dailies also. when there are important threads on the forums, it will put that there too. that's where i saw the announcement. i had already completed mine, but it was nice to have the info so i could warn friends and guildmates. i even helped a random stranger i met in zone chat last night struggling to get theirs done before maintenance, so i ran them through the archive

It generally pays to not leave things till the last minute.

I do think that ideally all maintenance would fall outside of events, but part of the issue is that there's almost always some kind of event or promotion running lately... particularly with the 10th anniversary celebration going on for the last year and now golden pursuits on top of that.

But anyway, I think they gave us ample time to finish the pursuit and ample warning about the maintenance - I mean I saw the warning here on the forums anyway, but I'm pretty sure it also popped up in the eso launcher?

I do believe they should work on making sure important announcements are always highlighted somewhere *in the game* (ie: in the launcher, on the login screen, etc.). Many people aren't on the forum and aren't super active on social media.

        Similar here. Blocked by maintenance.

Sucks because I had 11/12 of the Golden Pursuits done. The only one I still needed to do was locked behind a time gate (get X amount of daily log in rewards). I would have been able to get it once the day rolled over around 2 am. But I couldn't because of maintenance. So no 12/12 reward chest piece for me I guess.

Honestly I think locking the rewards behind an account-wide time gate is just stupid bad faith practice for something like this. Objectives tied to something you have no way of catching up on if you have a life outside the game is really crummy.

There's not a single way at all for me to force getting extra daily log-in rewards to make up the difference of time, whereas when we had stuff like "visit a stablemaster", it was one per character, so you could log in and out of multiple characters to catch up on the objective.

Yeah, of course it means spending (way too much money), but at least with event tickets you can pay for extra tickets to get event items, so you're not hard-locked out of event rewards if you didn't have much time to participate in the event.

Nothing was locked behind a time gate. There were other tasks you could have completed instead. Many players completed 12 before the logging reward tasks were even possible to finish.

The vibe here of "it's your fault, you should schedule your life better" is disgusting. It's a game, not a job. It's good that Kevin said on Reddit he would pass on feedback that there should be a way to run/extend a Pursuit so it could co-run with a new one in future. They acknowledge it's a problem, which is a good first step.

People see an announcement in game and an in-game timer and assume that's the rules they have to follow. Yes there was plenty of time to get it done, but if you don't know that the timer was incorrect then you won't plan around that. Heck, you might only find out about it 12 days ago and be assured that the daily pursuit will guarantee it for you!

        Wrong.

At 11/12 Pursuits completed, my only options left were "Get X amount of Daily Rewards" (which took up two out of 14 options) or "Feed 50 times as a vampire".

All of my character slots are filled with a character. Every character I have serves a purpose so I'm not going to delete any just for this. None of my characters are vampires, because I have no use for a vampire character. And I'm not going to force vampirisim on one of them just so I have to go back and pay crowns to have them cured of vampirism just for this event, that's stupid and a waste of money.

Yes, I'm sure you'll say "well that's your own fault for not playing vampires". It still doesn't change the fact that 2 of the Pursuits, the only remaining pursuits, are account-wide time-locked to once per day, which means there is no way for me to catch up on those.

And what does logging in every day for X amount of days have to do with Heart's Day? Oh right. It's to arbitrarily force players to log in more frequently and boost their daily concurrent player count using FOMO, which looks good for their game.

I'd much rather have had something like "duel pvp another player 20 times" than "make sure to remember to log in X number of days or you're locked out". It would've made more sense, been more thematic, and actually allows easier catch-up that any player can do without being forced to play someone else's way (make a vampire when I don't want to have a vampire and don't have extra character slots to make a throw-away vampire).

Years ago for every event in this game, I adopted the attitude that if it said it was going to end on such and such day, for me, it ended the day before. When events say they’re ending on Tuesday morning, the last time I plan to do anything is Monday to get my event tickets. I’m not going to go to the trouble to get up after the server time changes to the next day and try to get those event tickets in the brief few hours before the event ends. Likewise, if a golden pursuit says it’s going to end on a Tuesday, then for me, it ends on Monday.. This way I have never missed the last REAL full day of an event.

the same people on the forums will defend zos no matter what they do. It is what it is. I thought the new golden pursuits were garbage so i dont care. But the simple fact is if you put something like this in a game, and put a timer on it, and then follow that timer every other time the event occurred, then you should always hold to that timer and not end it early.

This isnt a job, its a game. Not everyone sits on the forums more than they play the game, or checks the announcements every time they log in. They see a timer and they expect thats the time they have. And if they have to disrupt that time, its on zos to fix it even If that means moving maintenance to another day or postponing it. But this is just bad planning from zos, which is unfortunately a theme.

A few hints: you don't have to create a character just for being a vampire and you don't have to pay crowns for a cure.

You have 2 free spots in the armory station. Use one, get bitten, fulfill the task, turn back to your saved arsenal spot.

Also a cure would just cost some gold in the mages guild.

You don't have to pay crowns to cure vampirism (or lycantropy). Arkay priest can do it. Not sure where he is in other alliances, but in Pact he is in Riften, Mages guild, just upstairs, Prelate Sabinus or something like that. Cost less than 1000 gold, exact sum depends on level, I believe.

Doesn't that only apply as a branch of the "getting bitten" questline? Where you can either choose to cure it (so you're not forced to be a vampire/werewolf since you can get infected by NPCs during certain times) or embrace it (thereby making it permanent)? Last I checked, once you choose to commit to vampirism/lycanthropy, the Arkay priest option goes away with the completion of the infection quest.

No. There is possibility to do it during quest and not get lycantropy/vampirism at all, but also you can do it anytime later. There is no marker, but you still can. It always was like this, if I remember correctly.

You say you completed 11, and didn't complete "Feed 50 times as a Vampire" nor "Claim Rewards from the Daily Login Calendar (0/10)". So that accounts for 13 of the 15 tasks. There are still 2 tasks unaccounted for.

the news server bot that some of the guilds have is super helpful. if your guild doesn't have this in their discord server you should see if they will get one. most have it set up in its own little channel so that's all that is there. it posts the endeavors and dungeon dailies also. when there are important threads on the forums, it will put that there too. that's where i saw the announcement. i had already completed mine, but it was nice to have the info so i could warn friends and guildmates. i even helped a random stranger i met in zone chat last night struggling to get theirs done before maintenance, so i ran them through the archive
        ...

Everyone can make own discord server.
I have own with tons of channels from dwemer automaton bot. I have guilds severs muted for reasons but my server have enabled notifications.
Dev_tracker bot channel is super useful.
