I you will play a game based on a vent/complaining thread, you will never try nor play a game.

Complainers will always complain, while the rest enjoy.

It is not unfair to find the current plans—what information we have so far—uninteresting.

Oh, so this is about PvP.

why a lot of people on forums like to pretend PvP doesnt exist? it was literally a major marketing point for ESO. long term sustain for this game isnt PvE, its PvP.

Wait, this game has PvP? /jk

In all seriousness though if the long term sustain for this game is PvP we’re screwed since that would be catering to the minority

They know that. They just made the thread title as edgy and click-baity as possible (and then never returned to the thread, hmmm).

Or, and my experience with PvPers tells me this is fully plausible, they believe that PvP is the game, or at least the only important part of the game.

Actually it's usually the PvE community that refuses to acknowledge the importance and legitimacy of PvP; dismissing the legitimacy of PvP as you just did. And point of fact, PvP IS the end game activity along with vet trials/trifectas.

And, this thread is not just about PvP. The PvE community is bleeding players at an alarming rate too.

Gee, I wonder why the PvE community doesn't acknowledge the legitimacy of PvP, or why so many PvEers fervently hope that the PvP community will continue to quarantine themselves in their toxic bubble of slurs, sexual harassment, and exploiting. It's so strange how the PvP endeavors and pursuits are greeted with a chorus of "I'll never PvP." It's such a mystery. I guess we'll never know the answer, huh?

PvP is dying, because fewer and fewer people are willing to put up with the PvP community, much of which is stuck in the morals and ethics of late 1990s Xbox Online lobbies. And the rest of the playerbase will respond with "Oh no. ....Anyway....".

TL;DR: PvP is not "the game." It's a small subset of people who do everything they can to keep it small. Conflating PvP with "the game" is, at best, clickbait, and, at worst, shows a severe lack of insight into the root causes of the PvP community's population decline.

Wow! What's with all the vitriol for the PvP players? If you don't like PvP, that's fine. But all this vitriol isn't warranted or justified. And there isn't anyone, nobody, that is trying to keep the PvP population small. Why would anyone do that? The complaint is that ZOS is mandating low PvP population with super low population caps and performance issues. It's not a conspiracy against the PvE players as you have repeatedly asserted.

The OP mentions PvE activities before they mention PvP, so this thread is about ESO losing players across the board, not just in PvP. And they're right. That's why ZOS is scaling back so significantly on putting out new content.

This game's PVP is not worth spending more development power into.
It was never comparative and should go out of focus for ESO. Best PVE and story MMO but PVP is ... mediocre at best.

This is an opinion that is not shared by many ESO players.

Maybe ESO should stop producing new PvE content as well? Oh wait.....

Except in this case the elitism and toxicity is coming from PvE players. Read the post you quoted and voiced your concurrence to.

      Not in my case.

If I had a nickel for every "ESO is dying" thread I've seen for the past 10 years... yet it hasn't happened yet.

Take these claims with a grain of salt.

The population has been in decline. 2024 was the worst year for population in 6 years.

It's fine to be wary of people claiming the game is outright dead, but if you care about the game the population decline should be troubling and you should want them to address it, lest it continue.

This game is in it's 11th year. It is not going to have the population it did when it was new. But it is far from dead.

I don't understand what these threads are supposed to accomplish. If the game was seriously in danger I think ZoS would know this without needing it pointed out to them in a forum post.

It is completely non-constructive to keep making threads predicting doom. If a player feels that is what is happening they should go find a different game rather than arguing with those of us that still see it as a healthy game.

I think I must be what some people like to call a "Toxic Casual" I do not spend the majority of my time engaged in what are considered "endgame" activities but I have played constantly since Beta! :D

I don't really pvp. I'm a returning player after a 4 year break. I'm having great fun learning trials and very dungeons and catching up. I've played since console launch. It was hard to get into pvp for me after sour experiences in SWTOR. Yesterday though, I needed to go to Bruma to get some deadly strike boxes. I saw that EP did not have Bruma, DC did. I remarked about it in the chat. Well, these guys dropped what they were doing, attacked Bruma, rezzed me when I died multiple times and after they took the town, brought me to the vendor. I had great fun and I think I'll come back tonight, especially in preparation for the event. It was a night and day difference from what I've seen in the past and in other games. You can't judge an entire group from some bad experiences.

As for the game being dead. Many old mmo players will see this and remember all the posts from the past about this. Not saying Zos is doing everything right but I can only speak for myself. My guilds are busy, my Q's pop, I'm doing trials and having a great time. We will have to see what the plan is in April. I'm sorry though that people are unhappy. Hopefully things get better.

I don't know if I've just really good RNG or what, but I was consistently getting decent amounts of heartwood, mundane runes, and other furnishing mats before the drop rates were buffed, and now I consistently get even higher amounts than before.

It's not the number of heartwood in a node that is a challenge. It's all the other people also hunting heartwood that are the problem.

Well, I’m a compulsive woodcutter, but if I see someone else going for resource nodes, I leave it alone. It’s funny, I used to focus on Blacksmithing nodes, then on Jewelry nodes, and I generally go for Alchemy nodes rather than Clothing nodes, but lately I’ve been more focused on Woodworking nodes. This.

I’ve played since beta too, with a few breaks from time to time. I still love the game and sign in almost every day to do something, but I’ve never done a vet trial, and only actually got into normal trials in the last six months. No matter what I’m doing in the game, I always see other players everywhere I am.

Just yesterday I signed on in the early morning hours to do my daily crafting writs before going to work and was surprised to find Blackwood such a busy place in the crafting area, what with the game supposedly dead and all.

And I’m in 4 guilds and I use an addon called EasyTravel that when you click on a zone in the list, it automatically finds a player in one of your guilds in that zone if one is there and transports you to the nearest wayshrine. I’ve used it for years and usually never have any problems getting transported to a zone this way, which is also surprising since allegedly no one is playing. And when I do a random normal dungeon run for the experience bonus that it gives you, even as a DPS I’m not in the queue for very long. It’s not instant, sometimes as much as five, ten, or even fifteen minutes may pass before it finds a group, but it’s always been that way ever since I can remember.

I can’t speak much about the PVP side of things. I rarely enter a PVP zone, it’s usually only to do the PVE dailies for Whitestrakes Mayhem or collect skyshards or something else PVE-centric so I sneak around with my Stage 4 Nightblade vampires a lot! Recently I was fishing during the pan-Tamriel event and I saw a lot of other players in both Cyrodiil and Imperial City and I have to say how nice they were to leave me alone when they saw what I was doing. I was very grateful!

I used to sometimes do Battlegrounds until they change them from three teams against three to two against two. I gave the new ones a chance, but they haven’t caught on with me yet. But back when I did them hardly a minute would go by before I would find a group.

My head is not in the sand. I’m not disputing the idea that a game that has been live for over 10 years is going to have less players as it gets older. To me that’s just understandable. But it looks very far from “totally dead” to me. I understand how seeing these threads pop up over and over can feel frustrating for other players who do not share this view or have this experience. And I’m very excited about the upcoming changes, and even the stuff that’s happening for Cyrodiil - just reading about it makes me curious to give it a try when the final version goes live.

The doom and gloom threads always end up saying if ZOS doesn’t do this or that the game is going to die. Well, it looks to me like ZOS is doing a whole lot of this or that in the coming months so we’ll just have to wait and see how it all goes!

I guess it depends on what type of guilds you are in. My trading guild is still going, though not as many people online as there used to be, pretty surprising since trading really sucks on PS. The other two guilds hardly have any players on at all, usually less than 10 during prime time. To put it in perspective, when I was in a trials group in my main trading guild, one of the others kept inviting me to run trials with them, but there was a time conflict. Now that I am not in the trading trials group, the other guild doesn’t even have anyone running trials anymore.

Maybe if you are in a housing guild there are still plenty of people on, that area of the game got a slight boost with increased housing mat drops recently and you pretty much play solo all the time.
