Inventory management at Chests

I'm trying so hard not to rant right now, but this is an issue that I feel should be addressed. We need to have the ability to access and manage our inventory while in the middle of looting. Aside from it being irritating to have to stop what your doing and open up the inventory menu to dump one of the millions of items you end up carrying in this game, it becomes a real issue when you open up a chest.

Realizing that your inventory is full right after you've cracked open a chest and found something useful is probably one of the worst experiences you'll have in this game, especially in areas where other players are running around. In order to clear that one space, you have to stop looting the chest so you can rummage through your bags, which leaves the chest upon and unlocked for anybody to swoop in and take whatever is still there, completely unhindered. It leaves you feeling cheated and completely upset at said player, which in turn leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Now, I could sit here and get pissed off at players that take advantage of this, but honestly, one can't really blame them for doing so. It's a part of the system, sometimes people leave stuff in chests that they don't want, and one could legitimately argue that I should be managing my own inventory better. That said, I really wish we could just pull up the bag space while in the middle of looting items without having to close what we're currently doing, rather than having to go through unnecessary drama like this. It would make the whole experience just a little more enjoyable.

I agree that it is very upsetting opening up a chest and realising you have no room in your bag to loot what's in it.
But I found myself making sure I always have at least one cleared up space (if not more) before I start running off again to do whatever. It just makes the experience less agrivating when a player just stands next to me waiting for me to fail or search my bag while in the middle of looting a chest.

I know many say this is part of the game and completely legit, and I agree. However, it doesn't help the frustration level and feelings toward other players. GW2 solved this very issue. Not a fan of GW2 but the node thing was done right.

Maybe we should do like Skyrim. Allow all the loot you can have but you can't run after you hit a certain amount! How funny would that be seeing all these players walking slowly into town because they had too much loot and needed to unload. HAHA! :p

Now that I think about it, they'd all be bots. Scratch that idea.

Ok, how 'bout at least 5 extra unseen bag slots with a big red warning on the screen (YOU ARE ABOUT TO MAX YOUR INVENTORY!) when the invisible bag gets used. Actually, SWTOR has something like this. It sits as a pending item you can't access until you unload.

    I'm brainstorm'in.

It is really frustrating to open a chest, realize you have full bags and then watch your loot fall into the bags of the player that ran up behind you. I have had this happen more than once and it really is annoying.

An easy fix would be to lock access to the contents of the chest to the successful lock picker for a minute or two before it becomes open for anyone to grab. This way you have the time to do a little emergency inventory management and keep your loot. They do this is EQ2 and it works quite well.

Given the very real chance that no fix like this will ever come about, you might want to try one of the add-ons that let you keep an eye on your bag space without constantly opening inventory. I use AwesomeInfo...a small add-on that only pops on screen when I have fewer than 10 slots open (you can customize the warning threshold).

Sorry to sound harsh, but oh hell no.

ESO is a very forgiving game, but there really does need to be a penalty for some player actions -- inattentiveness is one of them.

And, yeah, early on I had the contents of a chest swiped from me because my inventory was full. Did I get mad? You bet, but at myself for not paying attention. You can bet your brass Dewey button I didn't make that mistake again.

just take a peek before you begin lockpicking to see if you have room, if you have to take some time to delete stuff and someone sweeps in (bad manners imo) then its your bad. ive taken to checking as i would rather someone started picking the lock ahead of me than see some nice blue item get taken for free by the next looter

i really doubt they will allow temp bag storage....seeing as how they have restricted bag space like they have

Maybe it comes from playing old school PnP games with encumbrance rules and the like but I have two habits that serve me well.

    1) Never leave town without sufficient bag space for loot I may find.
    2) Don't pick up every little thing. I know people get upset if you take the mats but not the worms so I'll "take all" but then trash the worms.

I find myself wanting to be able to do this myself but I have no one else to blame but myself really. I have an addon now that shows me bag space in small text in the corner of my screen. I have no excuses now lol. Maybe they could make the chests to where you can swap items in the inventory if your bag space is full.

Oh yes one can. It may not be a violation of the game rules, but it sure as hell is a violation of the basic life rule, "Don't be an [snip]."

There's a UI Add-On called Awesome Info, I think, that you can set to display a message on screen (just up in the corner, unobtrusively) that warns you when you are getting close to full inventory. I have mine set up to alert me with YELLOW text when I have ten inventory slots left and RED text when I have five inventory slots left... and it actually shows you "5 slots left" or something like that, so you know how close to full you are.
