Add One Skill Slot

Since base game was introduced, several skill lines have been added.

At least, add a slot for scribing if not just one slot for any skill line?

    we already have multi-key presses for synergys on console. you could do the same (x + b, x + y , lt + x , rt + x etc) plenty of combos left

    we already have multi-key presses for synergys on console. you could do the same (x + b, x + y , lt + x , rt + x etc) plenty of combos left

    That would be ingredibly difficult to manage in a rotation rather than the intermittent ulti

    If I can do a 32 button dragoon in ffxiv on a controller, it's fully possible. Button combos are a thing.

    That would result in increased dps, increased healing, and more complicated rotations. All of which is exactly what ZOS is trying not to do.

    They could simplify and consolidate the bazillion 'buffs' that exist, then add slots to add skills that are actual skills, not just a bunch of 'slot this cause it adds a buff' and 'slot this and press every ten seconds cause it also adds a buff' garbage as it's all the buffs stacking on top of each other that drive the inflated dps they keep trying (and failing) to tone down.

    Then we’d have the same exact thing as we do now except instead of spammable, DoTs/HoTs, buffs it’d be spammable, DoTs/HoTs. Still more damage and healing and more buttons to press. This is ESO, we don’t have cooldowns for each skill. Add too many slots and it’ll end up being no spammable only DoTs/HoTs and with no buffs/debuffs tanks will ALSO have to start doing DoTs/HoTs.

    If Zenimax added a 6th skill slot, some people would ask for a 7th, and the fact they have added more skills is not a reasonable justification. If it were, then they would need to add dozens of skill slots.

    No. The game is balanced around the current number. Adding more slot(a) would just reduce the impact of making solid builds.

    I didn't pay ffxiv long but if I remember right the combat flow was quite a bit different. What can work there probably would be cumbersome here.

    I would actually love to see them give us the abilities to sacrifice an ult for a normal ability. It would add so much flexibility to be able to sacrifice your back bar ultimate, for example. Wouldn't require any additional button combinations either.

    Yeah, that would definitely be a nice feature. I often slot Flawless Dawnbreaker on the front bar just for its passives, like many players do. It would be great if a normal skill could take its place.

    Extra skill slots are unlikely. Since:

    1) Adding an extra skill means increasing power level overall and thus having to rebalance around such an increase.

    2) They've been actively trying to make things more accessible with things like the increased DoT durations in U35 to make things less spammy. Adding additional buttons makes things more spammy and less accessible (Especially for console players)

    It's just not providing much benefit for a lot of downside and doesn't jive with their recent trend.

    On a side note:

    I wonder if consoles will ever evolve their controllers? It's very easy to have 6 face buttons in the space they have. The Megadrive did it yonks ago (As did N64 albeit in its odd Nintendo fashion with the 4 C buttons and oddly sized A and B buttons)

    Heck, they could even actually include ordinal direction buttons for their D pads instead of relying on the mushy pad trying to press both cardinal directions simultaneously (Which would not only make fighting games diagonal inputs more accessible, but would allow for up to 4 more quick slot buttons)

    Would vastly increase the amount of range a console user has for inputs, without the need for strange grappling to press combo skills (Man, the strange ways I've had to hold controllers over the years to do various input combinations...)

    5 slots is good, I wouldn't change it, however; we do need craftable ulti's, and a power increase to the current ulti's.

    100% no. Multi button combos using a controller (either on PC or playing on a console) are horrible.
    Getting synergies to reliably work in this game are a disaster. Add to that trying to spam them by pressing 2 controller buttons is flaky enough that it can make you cause a team wipe. (Looking at you Cloudrest.)
    As this game has less skill buttons, you're expected to be able to use them very quickly - ideally 2 per second. This is unfeasible to do with multi button presses on a controller.

    Even on console it would already be helpful if you could slot an extra skill just for the passive (e.g inner light in PVE).

    It's perfectly feasible. And the gcd is 1s, you're not using two skills a second. Just semantics.

    Once you get used to multi presses you can do them very, very quickly.

    You can already have it now on PC:

    The total numbers of buttons are not changed. Back-paddles are mapped to D pad and L/R press, while non-combat functions can be remapped to combos or mini keys, which serves an additional keyboard.

    Mate, I've played for years and pressing 2 controller buttons at exactly the same time sucks.
    And yes with animation cancelling and light attack weaving you can do a skill and a LA each second. (Technically that isn't 2 skills, but it is 2 button presses.)

    Compromise, 2 new skill slots, no extra keys

    Movement slot:
    • Activate using the default evade keys
    • Completely overwrites your evade
    • Can slot in new evade abilities for each class
    • Ex: blink, leap(not the current leap but y'know a different one), etc
    • Concerns: none this is amazing :)

    Weapon basic slot:
    • Activate using the weapon basic keys
    • Add the basic attacks as skills
    • Ex: Beam(on a lightning staff will be the way we know it, but you can also put it on a fire or ice staff), Same for a blast kind of ability.
    • Ex2: Class abilities like the Arcanists runeblades can be equipped here too, like blasts but depending on what staff is used they can do different elemental damage. this adds to class fantasy since now all abilities including weapon can be based on your aesthetic but also offers cohesion with builds based around your weapons damage type.
    • Concerns: This would be a tad bit more difficult for martial weapons, but still doable and in my opinion worth the effort.

    Side note:
    I do think staves in general should be element agnostic and just be empty vessels to apply any element into, the limit of fire ice and lighting is kind of obnoxious (pure magic damage? holy? shadow? blood?) and the idea that the spell is tiedto the weapon makes it just feel like other weapon, like I'm not a spell caster, i just picked up a preprogrammed wand that does the casting for me. I didn't mention this above because it's a bit of a bigger issue and is a bit harder to explain in terms of the main idea.
