It's not cute.
It's not cool.
It's not funny.

Not to inflate my own ego, but I'm a good healer.
I have couple of veteran Trials under my belt.

None the less, it's frustrating when the boss chases me and I have to run around like a headless chicken.
If it's some Fungal Grotto or Elden Hollow it's not that big of a deal; those are baby's first dungeons.
A lot of DLC dungeons, on the other hand, require a proper tank to make the run smoother and less frustrating.

And for some reason, this happens to Scrivener's Hall most of the time - at least from my experience.
Second would be Bedlam Veil, but BV is my personal purgatory I spend weeks farming, so I know the ins and outs.

Perhaps I'm the most unlucky healer on a server and this kind of situation doesn't happen to anyone else.
I'm just talking out loud.

I bet some tanks have fake healer stories as well.

Do you play healer in random normals? Better also spec into dd and be a fake healer.

I'm one of the unluckiest tanks for getting fake healers that slow the groups down you'll ever meet. It's a meme in my guild. If I do an RND it'll take twice as long because the fake healer will slow the party down.

"But it's quicker" they shout, while laying dead on the floor at every boss on Wayrest 1 normal. No Gary, your DPS is shockingly bad and dead fake healers do not speed the god damned dungeon up.

For me personally a tank that doesn´t taunt is not a fake tank, that´s just someone who either doesn´t know better or doesn´t care. I have met both kinds of players many times. If they don´t know better try to explain, if they don´t care kick them. That´s how I see it.

I fake tank almost every dungeon I run these days but only when I know I can actually hold aggro, so I won´t fake tank for example vBC2 with hardmode or vDLC dungeons. But then I usually also have ~60% or more of DPS in the majority of groups, so there´s that.

    Oh, yeah, apologies.

    Random normals as a healer.
And by "fake tank" I mean a DD that lists as tank, doesn't have taunts, cant hold aggro, and is made of wet toilet paper even if I had direct line to God I can't heal.
It's totally different from what @BioBitter100 mentioned how he plays tank.

You can taunt the boss, you can aggro the boss with damage, you can have a cup of tea with the boss, you can date the boss then break it's heart on it's birthday after 5 years together and cancel it's plans on living together the day after it got the job of his life in the area.
For me, a healer, as long as the boss doesn't chase me around and there's something left to heal - it's fine.

    That gave me a chuckle.
I usually run my healers as sub dps.

Its usually synergestic to healing; like Warden's Lotus Bloom or crit healing Sorc with Power Surge and the Blind set.
If boss' aggro is dependant on damage output, then I must have higher damage than DDs in those teams...which is flattering.

There are new, below average, or straight up trolls in random queues. You get what you get, ZoS doesn't want to or will not balance the queues (they barely work as it is LOL). You always have the option to take the 15min hit and do something else. Most of the time I don't go full support anyways due to the need to carry parts of the group. If it is normal, even on DLC a full tank is barely needed. If it is a less experienced player then they should build more tanky.

The best option is to always preform when possible, but that isn't always convenient or viable. Unsure what content you are talking since it wasn't mentioned but for vet/hm then yes fakes can be an issue especially with tanks. Too bad ZoS doesn't filter ignored players from our queue options ;) There are many players I would rather not group with ever again, but it is what it is.

There isn't much excuse to not taunt if you "fake tank", with chains and so many more sources of taunt (some unwanted). The main issue of fake roles is when they aren't actually a good player either. Normals can be tanked in light armor pretty easily if you understand mitigation and have some self healing.

IMO, queueing up as a fake Tank or Healer is only acceptable when you've got a full premade going in and everybody is aware and in agreement. But queueing up fake whenever any slot will be filled with a random/unknown entity is just rude, selfish, and bad form because at least one person in the group didn't consent to it. Regardless how easy the dungeon may be.

I run dungeons with all DPS quite frequently. But when we do, if we don't have 4, then we travel in instead of queueing in. And we never do RND unless we've filled the whole group or actually run with the correct builds.

If it's a vet DLC dungeon or a vet HM pledge run then sure, I agree. For every other scenario though, I'd much rather have a fake tank who does good dps so we can burn the dungeon quicker.

On a side note, running around like a headless chicken literally does nothing. Bosses run as fast as you and have a million kilometer range on their attacks. If you run away they'll just hit you on the back of the head. The only thing you're accomplishing is making the boss run out of the ground AOEs that the DDs have placed, which as a DD myself, is rather annoying and I'd rather if you don't do that.

Just a side note, if you find yourself in a rnd with a fake tank, please do not run around like a headless chicken. Dodging/blocking heavy attacks and sidestepping aoes is usually enough to survive, especially if you have heals. Kiting the boss around just makes the fight longer because the boss won't stand in ground aoes/ults. :)

This issue was already discussed several years ago in plenty of threads and no matter what action ZOS makes, it will ultimately impact other players. This is basically a fight ZOS can't win by adding regulations.

Imagine what happens when ZOS disables the movement speed perk from CPs in dungeons so that people are more likely to stick closer together. Dungeons will ultimately feel way slower, less fun and engaging and ultimately take noticably longer to complete. This also then impacts how fast people will be able to level up in those dungeons then. While normal dungeons shouldn't be the content advanced players should be running, vet dungeons are unfortunately not rewarding "enough" in terms of time- and resource investment. Why bother with a way harder content that basically drops te same "reward", except for a monster helmet at the end, and therefore takes significantly longer to complete, when you almost get the same reward with less struggle and way less time investment?! If so, ZOS would need to make vet dungeons more appealing for advanced players.

ZOS can't controll how players behave in dungeons. They can only place incentives for people to play together and hope for the best. The best advice to give here is the same advice I already gave 3 years ago. Group up with 3 friends or people you know and queue for the dungeons then. These runs in general make usually more fun as you might also sit in voice or have other ways to communicate. You then are basically in control of how fast you can or want to go. ESO at times already feels like a solo game with the possibility for coop when in fact it is a MMO and it is also up to the player to shape your experience how you want it to be.

As someone who usually tanks or heals in dungeons, I have seen everything, from fake-tanks, fake-heals and unfortunately fake-dps. You name it and with some very high likelihood I have seen it at some point in the past 10 years.

As someone who mains a tank and has a tank on every class I'd argue that keeping attention of mobs is the secondary purpose of a tank. It is nice to have but at times that's not always possible due to multi mob fights and what not. The primary purpose of a tank is to bring in control to a fight. To pick up heavy hitters and to position mobs in a way that they can be burned down quicker and more easily. Plenty of fights have mobs spread out across a room. if you burn down mob by mob it takes way more time and resources than when someone stacks those mobs and the whole group can throw down AOE abilities.

A taunt on a boss is often times nice to have but as long as players aren't a one-hit it's also the DDs responsibility to survive the encounter by dodge rolling or putting on shields and the like.

ESO in contrast to other games allwos players to respec attributes and skills to fulfill needed roles if needed though plenty of players insist on playing a DD, a role that is actually quite common in ESO. As such, if you want to have a competent tank in your group and avoid running with fake-tanks, take over that role yourself. Every class in ESO can tank and there are enough general "abilities" to your availability to compensate what your class is lacking. Instead of moaning about a lack of "competent" saviors, be the savior.

Yes. This is why I tank on the incredibly rare occasions I set foot into an ESO 4 man dungeon. I can't do anything about dead fake healers that fell over and died because something looked at them the wrong way.

Well there are some simple actions zos can take. Like to rule out accidental ques you would change the que menu to force you to select your role to que up. Instead of having a role selected all the time.

Otherwise the other scenarios are from people grinding pledge keys or people farming for gear.
    • Not much you can do for pledge key grind other than lessen the grind.
    • For gear farming the new issue is that nobody trades. This is partly due to the stickerbook, now people are extremely selfish and wont trade because they want every single gear drop. If a dungeon takes me 5 mins to do, I dont want a 10 min que for dps. Other games had different loot systems, but I doubt zos would ever make an overhaul like that now. The other option is to redistribute loot drops. Out of the 5 bosses in dungeons, only the final boss drops half of the loot pool. Maybe split up weapons to the other major bosses. Then gear on the remaining bosses.

LOL. It is why I so rarely use the GF to get a group. I have had fights with GF DPS, which went on forever. It tested my skill to manage my resources while pulling in and keeping the attention of the adds that spawned on timers. In the same fights I have never seen those adds respawn with guild groups.
