Apocryphal Well Leads

Hi, what do you think about the Leads for the codex of Apocryphal Well from Treasure Maps, do you think it is more effective to block the other Leads or to dig each Leads?

I have read various things and someone says that by blocking "unwanted" Leads it is then certain that the Lead that drops is the one we want. And we simply avoid dropping duplicate Leads (which we don't want anyway).

I also heard about the opinion that blocking the Lead reduces the chance that when opening the chest the Leads will roll, simply that there is some base chance that the Lead will roll at all and then the resulting Lead roll is random and the more Leads that are not dug up the lower the chance is, so it is supposedly better to dig all of them (even the unwanted ones).

I'm currently on 4/9 codex at Apocryphal Well and I tried the Leads blocking tactic for the first time.
I have a total of 155 open Treasure Map chests and no Leads (of course the only one that could drop was the golden one for Apocryphal Well).
I have a complete codex for Leads from Treasure Maps (all 3/3) in West Weald and I did it using Leads blocking, it wasn't easy but not the worst but here in Apocryphal Well where golden Leads are concerned it seems that it doesn't work/the chances are very small...

Well, I am currently trying the second tactic of digging absolutely all Leads out of the chests.
So far I have 72 open Treasure Map chests and 27 bad (not gold) Leads.
So far, no difference from the first blocking tactic, with the only difference being that now I get Leads I don't want (or so it seems to me).

At the beginning of 2025 there should be a Pan-Tamriel event where the chances for Treasure Map Leads should be increased. Apocryphal Well Leads are also included.
I have a total of 462 Treasure Maps set aside for this event.
And I would like to know what tactics you think is better or what experience you have, what is more effective if I am interested only in the golden Leads for Apocryphal Well?

Open and dig all of them and hope to roll gold Leads or not dig the unwanted Leads?

Maybe it's because I wasn't playing for a while thanks to a borked laptop, but uh...what even IS Lead blocking? Like I get that it's blocking certain Leads you don't want to maximize chances of getting what you do, but how does one do this?

Well one way to do it is if you receive a lead that you dont want, just dont dig it up. Leave it there and you wont receive another one until it expires.

But doesn't that also block you from getting more Leads from that source until you do it? Like if you get a Lead from a chest, aren't you blocked from getting more Leads that drop from chests until that one is done? Or do you only have to Scry a Lead to open that 'slot' back up?

@Arunei Nope. You can get multiple. Pretty much the only method to aid someone in getting a specific lead from treasure maps or some other source that have multiple leads.

Nope. For example: If you're looking for a specific motif chapter for Ancient Akaviri from Blackwood treasure maps, the best way to not get duplicates is to not dig up the chapters you already have. Because the leads arent curated, and you don't want to keep getting one of the 13 you already have when all you are looking for is the boots to compete the set.

Well heck, idk where I got the idea that you were blocked from getting a Lead from x or y source if you had one from there already. That's a good thing to know.

So, the rumor that you don't get a lead drop you *could* have gotten because you have too many leads already is Baseless, false, and has no data to back it up, and just pure speculation.

There is nothing preventing you from getting a lead drop if you have other leads from that source already and the only way to guarantee lead drops is to hold onto all other leads from that source so only the one(s) you need can drop. This has been tested, and I can personally confirm it.

EDIT: Anything else, like maps needed per drop, is RNG and rng itself can just be crap.

I'm of the same opinion, the only thing that strikes me is that I'm currently on 4/9 codex and the last gold Lead was approx over 200 chests ago (and the only ones I can drop are gold, the others I have undig).
So that's why i started this thread if anyone who has hunted the codex inputs for the well, what are their experiences/strategies..

Sounds about right. The first time you get any lead it has a much higher chance to drop vs the second and third times, and from personal experience (have the whole codex learned btw) the second time dropping a lead takes the longest, and it's RNG whether that's a few days long, or months/years depending.
