Overload Needs Immediate Attention - Buggy and Frustrating

Dear ZOS Team and Fellow Players,

I’m writing to address the ongoing and frustrating issues with the Overload ultimate. While Overload has always been a unique and versatile ability, its current state is riddled with bugs that make it unreliable and unenjoyable to use. Here are the main problems I’ve encountered:

Skill Bar Swapping Issues:
When Overload is active, swapping between bars often breaks. This leaves players unable to access the abilities on their secondary bar until Overload is toggled off. It completely disrupts the flow of combat, especially in high-pressure situations like Battlegrounds.

Ultimate Activation Problems:
Sometimes, activating Overload doesn’t trigger the ultimate. The animation starts, but no attacks can be performed. It’s as if the game doesn’t fully register the activation. This wastes ultimate points and critical moments in fights.

Heavy Attack Bugs:
Overload’s heavy attack often fails to function correctly. Either the charge doesn’t fire at all, or it does significantly less damage than expected. Given that Overload relies heavily on its heavy attack for damage output, this bug severely impacts its viability.

Light and Heavy Attack Lockout:
Occasionally, players are unable to perform light or heavy attacks with Overload active. The only way to resolve this issue is to deactivate and reactivate the ultimate, which can be incredibly disruptive in the middle of combat.

Random Deactivation:
Overload sometimes turns off randomly, even without toggling it off manually or running out of ultimate points. This unpredictability makes it nearly impossible to use effectively.

Ultimate Point Drain:
There’s an occasional bug where Overload consumes more ultimate points than it should, even for light attacks. This can leave players drained of ultimate points much faster than intended.

Overload is a defining skill for many Sorcerer builds, and these issues not only hinder its effectiveness but also make the class feel incomplete. Many of us have submitted bug reports, but these problems have persisted for multiple patches.

I urge the development team to prioritize fixing Overload in the upcoming updates. Sorcerer mains and players who rely on Overload deserve a skill that works as intended.

    I was using Overload on my young sorc earlier today. Heavy attack did not seem to do any damage though light attack did. No proof of that ... except no damage was being peeled off the boss with a HA.

    for me ,only heavy attack bug or skill stuck in my hand this 6 year

    I rarely post on the forums, I go by the user name Looney-Toons in game (PC/NA).

    Bit of background, (been playing since beta have the monkey), mag sorc main for years.
    Also a whale, spent over 10k I believe, more homes than I can count.
    Hop into a battleground, and you'll most likely find me at some point.

    Gonna be frank, I don't believe they can, or have the resources to fix this.
    This is one of the most popular classes, and this is the most important range ult the class has.
    If they could fix it, they would have by now.

    The game is in trouble, I've seen it before with SWTOR, and Wildstar.
    They've dug themselves a large hole, that I'm not sure they can get out of.

    I play largely now due to sunk cost fallacy, I took a chance on this game.
    It appears it didn't work out, oh well it happens.

    PvP is the endgame for longtime players, we get to experiment with all the gear we've unlocked over the years.
    Its broken right now, healing is so strong that some matches are pointless and I just leave.

    You're just going to have to accept it wont be fixed, it is what it is.
    This is just one major problem, in a long list of major problems.
    If they do fix it, it won't be anytime soon.

    Personally I think this game will make it another 5 years, then it will go the route of SWTOR.
    Cyrodiil is way too big for the small population, and that latest livestream really shed light on what's going on over there.
    Most of the zones are barren these days, and the PvP crowd are all the same people.

    Streamers have all but left, I could go on.

    So yeah, tough pill to swallow.

    It has been broken for years. And this bug has been reported multiple times. That's why I use comet instead

    I did not know that Overload had such a bug. Thanks for the valuable information.
    It is hard for a newbie to know if it is a bug or a specification, and I don't know much about other classes either.
    I wish ZoS would provide a list of known bugs.

    Couldn’t agree more 👍.
    I play on PS5 NA and it’s the same case.

    After putting so much time you wish things could be better but you know where the company’s interest are at especially after seeing the last live stream, bg stream.
    I’ve been on the copium for awhile and it doesn’t make things any better.

    It helps to try to play other games. The more you play ESO the more the bugs, exploits, and problems surface in PvP. It’s only further dis-heartening how long these problems have gone on for.
    Best of luck either still playing this game or finding something else that makes you happy.

    i've been saying for more than decade now that overload in must buggiest spell of the whole game.
    And each post adding to that, goes always silent and never ping the devs
    Imagine a game with stackable maps, furniture bag, decon furniture

    Very good post.

    Overload being buggy is something that has kept me from using it for years on my own Sorc, despite it being a superior skill for most the builds I've used.

    It's a shame and -as you say- it seems to point to larger troubles that it's gone SO long without being addressed.
