Sound delay/lag

Hi all,

Recently I stopped playing with my music on just to listen to the SFX, ambience. It's pretty cool. But I've noticed that my sound tends to get delayed a fair amount. For instance, I'll sell an item at a shop and it won't make the money jingle till a second or 2 later. It starts to get weird when I say, charge into a dark anchor, and no sound goes until 3 seconds later, when it's like all the sounds in that 3 seconds drop all at the same time. It's easy to hear this when riding horseback and now and then the hoofbeats will cut out then all land at once.

Does anyone else have this or know what causes it?

SOLVED:
I found a fix for myself!

After hearing about people deleting the UserSettings.ini to fix other lag and such issues I tried it myself. Wala, sounds back to awesome!

You can try it if you're still experiencing this -

delete user/My Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/UserSettings.ini
you may want to make a backup. I just renamed the file OldUserSettings.ini

Then start the patcher and it will make a new one. This also cleared up some issues I've been having since the 1.2.3 hotfix, including missing/slow appearing spell FX and big delay swapping weapons.

As a side note, I looked through the old and new files to compare and really didn't see any glaring differences. Though 2 lines I had changed previously to try to fix something else -

SET RequestedNumJobThreads "0"
SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "0"

Go into your device manager and see how many audio drivers you have enabled. Disable all the ones you do not use. I had this same problem after a patch - lots of static and delayed sounds. Fixed it.

Ok, I'll try that out. Can't get in game yet so we'll see. Thanks

Having the same issue here... tried dcyoumans9257 suggestion without success... another suggestion? The problem started after last patch.

I can't say for sure if the last patch started it or not, but sometimes it's so pronounced I can't imagine not noticing it before. Hoofbeat sounds are consistently being missed not long after I start riding, and I can guarantee a lot of delay if I pull a bunch of mobs all at once.

Are you getting bad FPS too? I just started getting awful FPS today and I am getting sound lag as well.

My FPS and all other performance is pretty legit, in fact I guess that's why the sound issues are so obvious.

i tried this to see if it would fix some of the issues i have been encountering..... it fixed nothing i have been encountering... abilitys still fail to render any of their effects and no sounds play 70-80% of the time...
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

This happens to me periodically during intense combat with people around. It's like the system can't keep up with the total number of sounds being played or something, and bogs out.

Stopping combat for a few moments seems to reset things.

I am having this issue. Also not only do I have a sound delay sometimes mobs just won't show up. At times I see them after they die ( I am in a group of two) and sometimes I don't ever see the corpse.

I realize I am responding to a one year old thread, but maybe this information will help others.

I think I found something. It's not a "full-fix", but it's definetly better than before. At least now, the sounds are 0.5s delayed and occurs less than before.

After 5 days of tweaking and testing the settings, I came up with something. From my experience, the sound delay thing occurs because, in a way, the engine doesn't allow multiple sounds to be played at once, so some of them are dalayed. Or they are not processed at once, At least this is how I feel, I am not expert. It's no wonder anyway since, ESO engine barely handles 2+ cores.

There are two command lines in UserSettings that I modified :
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1" >>> to 0
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1" >>> to 0

This two commands put less pressure on the engine and on your CPU, I tested on 32bit version for 15 minutes and is partially working. MUCH better than before anyway !

I will test 64bit also, I just got so excited to see it working that I came here to announce you first. Until Zenimax patches this, i'm gonna use this thing.

Hope it help ! Waiting on your feedback !

    I encountered sound/audio lag aswell.
It happened several times at Cyrodiil when 2 large groups collided in battle or when multiple siege weapons are being used at one place.
I know it happens when using the 32 bit client.
The 64 bit client is still crashing a lot so I don't know if this issue is also with this client(I stopped using it after few tries).

Deleting the usersettings file does not solve the issue for me.
My guess is that the audio files which are being used in the client side are not syncing with the game server.

I'm replying to an 8 year old thread, but the issue is the same.
I already tried what @Mike_Mercenaru wrote 8 years ago.

    In UserSettings:
    SET RequestedNumJobThreads "-1" >>> to 0
    SET RequestedNumWorkerThreads "-1" >>> to 0

    but nothing was solved.
Even deleting the usersettings file doesn't solve the problem for me as told by @Universe

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in June 2014. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.

    Thank you for your understanding.
