What is with kicking out of delves on game exit?

Was there any recent changes to the game that teleport a character out of a delve on game exit? Not long ago I was able to leave a toon inside a delve, exit the game, and then, when logged back in, find it when it was left (near a boss). Occasional removals from a delve happened, but they were rare. Now it happens all the time. Did I miss an change related to this? Really annoying.

I recall times during the past couple of years when I was removed from a delve after exiting the game. Sometimes, my characters remained inside, and sometimes, they did not. There is probably a mechanic server-side that will cause the "need" to remove characters from the instance.

It seems to be random. Recently I left a character in a delve for the boss encounter (during the Halloween event) and some days when I logged in it was still there and other days it was outside.

Delves and public dungeons are public instances, but with limited capacity. So the game will create instances when there's people trying to go into them, but also destroy unused instances.
When you load back into the game in these situations and your old instance doesn't exist, the game will move you to the open world.

    What Kringled sed.

It's about server instances and, therefore, money. I don't expect them to support this. If you aren't there, then there's no reason to keep the resource alive as it costs real money. Same reason you get booted from your house when you do a dungeon from your house. When it's over. You respawn at your last non house location.

This makes sense. I can see the game removing an offline player from an instance when it gets full instead of creating a new instance. Permitting several offline characters to fill an instance would make no sense.

I have also been able to stay in Cyrodiil sometimes but get removed at other times. I rarely log off inside the campaign, likely because it has filled.

Thanks for all replies. I know that there must be a reason behind for this to happen because kicks happened in the past as well. But either I was extremely lucky before (I was able to leave multiple toons in various delves/public dungeons of various zones for days at a time) or something recently changed for the worst because now I have to reenter and run all the way to the boss almost every time.

If you log off in a base game delve / public dungeon, I don't think you get kicked out after logging off. Hmm, I could be wrong though

I probably should have clarified that I was talking about DLC delves/public dungeons.

    Delves are instances.

I suppose it’s the same for thieves hideouts.
