Please don't make mission items, even if optional, saleable!!!

That dumb special spoon from the random encounter where you find the Hollowjack portal should be of another color and should not be sellable(For those that don't know, you can use that spoon with a nord character from another HJ random encounter that is talking about death and his fears)

I have had like 5 encounters, and I forget I get the damn spoon, then I sell it as it is considered junk, and when I get the nord random encounter, I cannot get whatever you get when you give him the spoon, because I didn't realize that I sold it as junk

-_- Why would you put a "mission" item as junk???

I agree it shouldn't be marked as junk, but should rather be marked differently, maybe with a special color, Or maybe even make it a "real" quest item (there's an extra category for that, after all), where it could remain forever - without counting for inventory space - until it is used (or maybe make it disappear again automatically when the event ends, if it's not used until then).

Although, to be honest, I like that it is optionally sellable - I got this item 3 times already, but didn't meet the Nord yet, and as only one of these items can be carried at the same time, I always sold the old one when it dropped again. But yes, it should nont be marked as junk.

Since I got a fork, I assume you get a different piece of cutlery depending on what you said you were afraid of? I got fork from skeletons.

I didn't say anything (didn't have that encounter yet), but I also get forks.

There are currently different event-related random encounters. There's one with a Oblivion portal where you find a fork in a chest that can be given to a smith in another different random encounter. There are several tasks like this (that do not show up as official quests in the log).

Are there special rewards for it that I would not get otherwise? I can't remember to have encountered any of that.

No, I think that strangely, we get nothing for it. Maybe XP, but I'm not sure about that.

I have another question on these random encounters.

I have now two unique items (the fork and a talisman or something like that). These random npcs that I shall give these items too I have yet to encounter (I seem to stumble always into the two argonians or that guy that gives me a curse).

Do these nps only spawn in specific zones or are they really pure random?

    Completely random.

I have the impression that the chance for random encounters (generally, not only for the event) is higher in Blackwood than in other regions, by the way. Always thought it was a deliberate design choice because they introduced a lot of new ones with that chapter, so it would make sense to raise the percentage so players come across them often enough to see all of them. That's useful when it comes to event encounters, too.

    So far I got:

A ghost mourning at a tombstone. Got a child's doll from that and could give it to a grieving Khajiit mother in another encounter.

An oblivion portal that always gives me forks :D I already met the Nord smith, too - unfortunately before I got the first fork, so I couldn't give it to him yet.

Pumpkin head guy - only gave dialogue so far.

    Two argonians - only dialogue.

An orc robber - curses you, unless you wear a witches hat, then you can intimidate him and get a coin purse from him. Not sure if that purse is needed for another encounter. I have kept it until now.

A cursed soldier who warns you to stay away and attacks if you approach.

    .

This is the only one I've had (several times), so I thought it was just a little bit of 'flavor' rather than a separate mini-quest-wannabe. No xp, just a fun bit of talk.

I love random encounters like that, a bit of dialogue that adds to the story or area feel. But if they're meant to BE something, such as awarding a piece of cutlery to give another 'random' person, surely would be nice if enough attention would be paid on the dev level to let the player in on the secret. Maybe, as has been suggested, a different color or put into the quest items pouch or - crazy thought - in the description of the item it could say something like "Inge has been missing this spoon. Maybe I'll see her to return it."

After accidentally popping the tombstone lady and all the many adds, I'm just giving all that a wide berth.... This is the sort of "encounter" I really dislike.

Maybe they'll make more of it some day. I have the feeling they already have increased complexity a bit with this event's encounters compared to the first event where they did this thing (which was Zeal of Zenithar).

I'd wish they could make an event achievement about this (one single achievement which includes the few different tasks to check off) and maybe give us some small reward for completing it. Nothing too important, and nothing time-limited of course (and of course it should be doable every year during the event), so it's something fun to do on the side and doesn't turn into a grind.

Having that in the achievement list would also help players to see that there is something with random encounters going on during the event and which items to keep for it.

The portal with the skellies that gave me the fork was in Alikir for me. Since I had the "Hollowjack knows your fear of skeletons" effect, I assume that determines the portal.

I think the locations where they show up are completely arbitrary (potentially everywhere where a random encounter may appear). I've met most in Stonefalls, including the Khajiit mother.
