Would you rather they postpone fixing these critical issues until next week?

I imagine they could just *not* fix the issues on EU until the next regular patch. Careful what ya wish for.

If you absolutely have to spend that time with video games:

If you have Steam, take a look at your games library. Chances are high that there is an ungodly amount of other games sitting there, looking at you with big, round kitten/puppy/larva* eyes, begging to be played. Show them some love.
Alternatively, go set up a new modded Skyrim. Should take you five hours on average.

    * Choose according to your baby animal preferences.

If they had to take into account inconveniences on holidays everywhere, the maintenance would never get done.

Yeah, I'm so sick of people posting for the sake of posting.

There's nothing petulant about complaining about maintenance on a widely observed public holiday. ZOS manages not to do this with US public holidays (of which, contrary to popular belief, there are about the same number, if not slightly more depending on the European country compared with national public holidays than those observed by most countries in Europe).

This isn't the first time this has happened and, yes, perhaps this one was an emergency. But do ZOS have a list? Are they aware these holidays exist? Because this is a paid-for product and they purport to provide a paid-for service in Europe and at the very least some sort of acknowledgement of the significance of the timing would help manage people's grievances.

I don't have a candle in this but "petulant" is complaining that maintenance is done on Tuesday at 1125 and therefore conflicts with my having fed the cats and taken my chihuahua to dog school because I work special hours as a trapeze artist. Complaining that maintenance on an entertainment product happens on a day that is for much of a continent a public holiday is essentially the opposite of petulant. It is very reasonable and should be a blindingly obvious issue for anyone working in the entertainment sphere.

Rather beside the point, but as someone living in a European country where November 1st isn't any kind of public holiday, I'd be intrigued to know what it's a holiday for? Even the autumn school holidays here were last week, not this week.

All Saints Day (hence "Hallowe'en" -- All Hallows' (Saints') Eve).

Ah, one of the religious ones. Thanks for the information. (I should really have guessed -- just checked, and eight out of the eleven public holidays we do have here in the Netherlands are religious in origin.)

Judging by the distribution in Europe (France, Spain, parts of Germany, parts of Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Poland, etc etc) it's mainly the historically very Catholic bits or the bits with Catholic history that observe it.

ZOS is a company made up of humans. they can only do so much, which is why the TOS doesn't guarantee access to the game.

So the country can close, but zos cannot.

    And that's not petulant.

There's holidays in all sorts of places literally every day of the week. And they NEED to fix the issue. It's unfortunate timing but it is what it is.

It isn't maintenance it is a hot fix. Maintenance is scheduled but a hot fix is usually an immediate response to a problem that is deemed critical to address.

You're talking about a national public holiday covering a population of going on 250 million people in Europe alone. Talk Like A Pirate Day it is not... And the problem isn't so much, in the case of urgent maintenance, that it gets done, it's that ZOS has seemed repeatedly oblivious to the very existence of such holidays and doesn't even see the wisdom of acknowledging that people are inconvenienced. It's not a very good look.
