What type of houses do you want to see?

A secluded Breton-style sorcerer's tower in the mountains of Mournoth is my biggest in-game wish! Right on the border of The Reach, with gates and/or views into both zones. Location is everything.

This schmexy tower has so much quirky Breton energy: it would be perfect.

(Nedic- or Direnni-style towers could be good substitutes due to the area's lore).

A subterranean vault/dungeon would be a fun addition.

Did You Know?: There is not even one single Breton home in all of Bangkorai! Apparently wealthy orcs- unsatisfied with buying up THE ENTIRETY of North-Eastern High Rock- are gobbling up all the real estate in Bangkorai, too- pushing poor hard-working Bretons out of their own province!

This, a traditional wizards tower not covered in mushrooms (Tel Galen), a pile of broken down rocks (Shalidor’s Shrouded Realm), or a lighthouse that I try to pretend isn’t a lighthouse Fogbreak Lighthouse). Just a nice, boring traditional wizards tower is all I’ve ever wanted. 🏰

    Empty plot of land.

There are more than enough houses of all sizes and types in the game already! I am a bit disappointed of this direction, because the housing team is putting to much effort in new houses instead of creating more furnishings or polishing the old, low res textures for the "classic" furnishings from 5-7 years ago.

I would like a plot of land that has a beach, but also some waterfall, and with enough flat land (without tall grass) to build anything. An ideal spot would have a wayshrine very close, or why not, have a wayshrine in the housing environment.

Also, some variations would be welcomed, like a place with a ruin underground that can be dwemer, argonian, dragonguard, ayleid, imperial, so you could build around that theme.

I am not sure we need more villas, castles, manors etc. Right now there are plenty of structural building pieces to encourage people to build from scratch, especially with the better drop rates for runes coming next update. Ofc, more structural pieces would be welcomed, for the older styles. I am still hoping for more dark grey dwemer structural pieces.

I'm quite happy with Mathiiesen Manor as a great interpretation of Oblivion's (single player) Ayleid ruins into functional intact homes. Breathtakingly beautiful and true to Elder Scrolls' character. But I wouldn't mind seeing a bigger manor manor in the same style.

With the latest expansion I had hoped to see another Bosmer home. While I completely understand all the dead animal bits are culturally appropriate, they're very polarising in terms of player taste. Not everyone wants to be looking at corpse components 24/7.

If not for those, I'd also totally adore all of the base game Bosmer homes.

Some of the pre-release Bosmer concept art shows pods without dead animal bit built in.

I'd also be quite happy with the Unutterable Truths tower, but unfortunately I just missed it so now have a looooooooooooong arse wait.

I'm also quite fond of the medium altmer Cliffshade, but it has no garden and that horrible sad, dirty pond out front. The same house in a better setting might be grand. Or allow us to purchase the house as a single piece furnishing and place it in an empty lot - either Auridon or Summerset.

    Dawnwood location!

But no house, just empty like Moon Sugar Meadow. And modular pods in the new design.

I've not had a chance to play the latest expansion yet but was hoping they'd change the Bosmer pods.

Personally not into the dead animal bits everywhere.

Just looked at some Dawnwood pod images online. Not entirely clear but it seems like they're just wood and leaf.

If so I would love to see those available to players.

Yeah- its been said before, but I'll echo it: a modular system with a range of complete place-able buildings would be a fantastic complement to an expansion of the range of open plots.

Right now, the open plot homes are really cool, but they fall short of their usefulness for the WHOLE housing community. If you're all about showcasing some artwork like a scene from Star Wars, or a giant dinosaur, or WE, it's already been demonstrated how amazing it can be. But for those of us who just want to make a home base for your character, it's less ideal.

A range of modular home styles combined with a greater range of open plots would be fantastic for those of us who just want to make our own part of Tamriel for ourselves. Maybe not insanely creative, but we can express ourselves in the way we want, reflect our characters, and I think it would make a lot of the rest of us very happy.

Is it feasible? Are there barriers to doing this?

I would love to see another Dark Brotherhood themed house, but closer to a major city or something. I like the Erstwhile Sanctuary and all, but I never use it since I hardly ever visit the Gold Coast.

I just want more notable homes in/near main cities that I can buy with gold.

Obviously it wouldn't be impossible and there's the druid hut as an example currently in the crown store, which is pretty good for what it is.

For potential barriers, I can think of some.

Houses are instanced but the exteriors of most are in or at least visible in the game world. Modular housing presents a challenge to that. Not an insurmountable one but one they'd have to deal with.

The base game and at least some of the later DLCs are a world apart in terms of graphic fidelity. Furnishings tend to be smaller so that difference is less noticeable but buildings or components thereof could be a different matter.

Some buildings are known to be bugged, eg. the Hall of the Lunar Champion's little house on the hill is one used throughout Elsweyr and the windows on the inside and outside don't match. On one side they're in different locations.

It should be an easy thing to fix but they haven't. Why not?

Do the developers want players to be unhappy with a bugged free house so they spend real money to buy an bug free one? Or did they outsource that work and not have access to or control over the models and so are unable to fix it without having to pay?

    And of course there's monetisation.

Housing probably accounts for a big chunk of crown store spending, both with bought for cash crowns and gold.

Tamriel isn't infinite in size or architectural variety. There is a limit to what they can legitimately create and handing players those creative tools potentially kills their ability to sell more houses.

Given those tools and enough skill and time, many players would be able to make a home perfect for their own tastes and thereafter the bar is raised through the roof for every developer created home. Those players might stop spending on homes entirely.

But that silly little simple game Minecraft is the world's current best selling game precisely because people love building stuff. I think the path to maximum profit lies in giving players maximum freedom here.

Adding to my previous wish list, I missed what should have been an obvious one.

    An intact Ayleid structure.

Note that I haven't played West Weald yet so don't know the story specifics but we have intact Ayleid furnishings now and can guess how that's so.

Rather than potentially futzing with history, this house could exist in something like a pocket oblivion dimension.

There's already precedent - the Argonian pyramid in Coldharbour.

I’m still waiting for a small Telvanni house in Sadrith Mora.

If it'd be up to me I'd like to see more smaller homes.

I'd like to see houses similar to these traditional houses:

Some with that specific type of roofs (thatched one):

Yeah they have thatched roofs but they are built from wood.

I would more like half-timbered ones or just plain white painted ones...

Something like Erlibru's Cottage would be nice.
