Players are leaving ESO - here's why

I’ve been here since beta and I’ve seen these threads for years and yet the game is still here. People see what they want to see.

As long as the servers are up I’ll play. It’s a fun game. I’m going to ignore whether I see 10 people or 10 million people because I am enjoying the game and content.

Guilds come and go, players come and go… that’s normal.

A natural decline in a 10 year old game does not indicate that the game is failing.

I don't understand why some are so insistent that this game is dying and so set on making sure that we all agree with them. When I feel a game is no longer for me I move on completely. Whether others feel the same or not doesn't affect my decision.

Okay im glad its easy for you to move on.
Other people like me are interested and want to see the game alive for another 10 years if possible.

I have so many nice memories and had such a good time in it, met so many nice people ofc i bother and if i can only try to make zos listen in the forum, ill do it.

You dont need to understand that.

ESO isn't dead. It isn't dying. It might not be at the same level it was at its peak, but games don't always stay at the same level. There are a whole bunch of other options besides just "peak" and "dead"

This is my perspective too. There really is a difference between a game truly dying, and I've seen some MMOs do that, and just settling in at a lower population level. It is a 10 year old game, and the content release is slower than many of its counterparts, but people are still here. Does it feel lower? Yeah, it does. And it has since U35 and has kept that trajectory. Could just be my perspective, but this year feels like it's declining more than it did with Necrom or Greymoor. Maybe others feel this way, but Gold Road really changed how I view the game.

For me, this game is solidly a wait for sale going forward. I still love it, I still see it continuing, and I accept that the content may not always be what I want. The content seems light and increasingly focused on the crown store, because of that, I don't see myself playing it as much going forward.

I don't think ZOS is realizing how many ESO fans will never touch another ZOS product again if ESO isn't fixed in terms of performance.

I feel this. For me, it's more than just performance. It's also how things are handled. I love ESO, but the various debacles over the years have left some very negative impressions that wouldn't be forgiven were it not such a beloved IP.

I'd only play another Zenimax game if it has different leadership, community managers, and technology.

I just said this a week ago in a thread about quest quality declining, thats the exact "I dont care if the boat is sinking, as long as my part is still dry." mentality that destroyed PVP and endgame PVE and now its coming back to bite questers, who, for some reason, thought they would be spared. If you dont care about the decline of the game, good for you but please dont expect others not to care either.

I have just a few weeks ago checked out another game i quit in 2013 when everyone said it's dying, its also "still here".
Yea... they had to merge 7 german servers down to 2, i spent 6pm - 10pm on pvp map and did not find 1 single other player and 90% of "players" i did meet where bots BUT... the game is still here ! So i guess everyone who said it's dying was wrong huh ?

I’ve said a few times in this thread and the others clogging up General that while other platforms may be not so great or even dying that others are doing just fine. I think PC/NA is fine and if it’s not then *shrug* I’ll go play something else. It’s a video game, something meant to pass some time and enjoy with friends. While I want it to last a long time not everything does. I also wanted Bethesda to not sit on their hands for 10+ years for the next TES game.

I’ve just seen these threads a lot over the last 10 years and eventually it just turns into a boy who cried wolf situation. I believe ZOS will do everything they can to keep this boat floating. And also didn’t an article just come out, that was posted here, that the game is still making hand over fist in profits every month from players? Can’t be both greatly profitable and dying.

I, for one, am not trying to convincing you to quit, or to stop you from enjoying the game - at all. But I genuinely don't want to be shut down, or completely disregarded when voicing that I have stopped supporting eso, and that so many people are leaving that it is affecting my game experience, and the health of the eso I play, and that this decline is really bad for eso's longevity. These things are very valid points, and discussing the concern, reason and therefore also what can be done is fair to I expect from people in this thread.

I've been around since 2019. I've never had a problem with Steam or the launcher. If you want to pretend there's a statistically-significant problem with the launcher since before the influx during COVID, I guess that's your prerogative.

It s an extra something that goes wrong. I stopped using the Steam launcher entirely and have a desktop icon to the ESO executable. Steam is totally unaware that I even play the game when I play my Steam account.

So because of problems with the launcher years ago, you're still running the executable directly, skipping the automatic update check, and manually logging into the game every time you play? And you want me to believe that enough Steam-account players are going through this extra hassle as to have a statistically-significant impact the numbers on the Steam charts?

The amount of pretzel logic that folk engage in to explain-away Steam users is beyond astounding.
