Ansei Tank Build

I love Redguard lore. And my favorite roles to play are always support. So I'd like to create a sword singer tank build. I run in a 2 person party with an oakensorc. Ideally I'd like to use Morkuldin for the floating sword(shehai). Does anyone have any ideas for interesting lore builds for my Redguard Swordsman.

Well you can taunt with a 2H weapon skill from the Scribing line, so no need for OH+S and it gets the racial passive.

If you want to live dangerously, we'd have to talk through my tank priorities (the Ten Buffs/Debuffs lol):
    1) a way to inflict major&minor breach
    2) a way to inflict major&minor vulnerability
    3) a way to inflict major&minor maim
    3) a way to hit the protections cap (33100) - usually incorporating Major and Minor Resolve
    3) a way to gain major/minor protection

Not necessarily in priority order, lol.

Id be fine using OH+S. As long I get my sword I'm fairly happy. Are there sets or skills you'd recommend for creating some kind of sword singer looking character. I was hoping for Morkuldin cause the sword is so cool looking and fits the lore perfectly. I completely forgot there was a set called sword singer lol.

What kind of content are you aiming for? PvP? Vet dungeons? Trials? Or just some general overland and questing stuff?

with a 1h/shield using morkuldin i would think you could do at least non-dlc vets and below pretty easily

if you want more survivability and be more tank, you could use like leeching plate, this would be able to give you pretty decent tankiness and still let you use your preferred set

flex in whichever monster helm would fit your them, or go like iceheart if you need additional survivability

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

I think using Sword Singer and Morkuldin's is possible if you can get to ~35k hp and apply most of the priorities I mentioned. It will be difficult though with those two sets.

It wouldn't be difficult to hit 35k at all. 64 points into health and all health glyphs with a food buff that gives you max health and you'll easily crack that. Throw on a piece of Trainee and Druid's and you'll be over 40k.

Mostly dungeons and overland stuff. Probably vet dlc dungeons too at some point.

arc and DK have a pretty good class spec available for tanking

it is possible to reach 33k resistances with all medium armor, heavy armor is what gives you even more of a health and health recovery boost

medium armor does reduce block cost though so its not completely terrible

avoid light armor, because that increases block cost (it is possible to get near 30k resists with light armor, but light armor increases your cost to block reducing your tanking ability because block drops your resources faster)

since morkuldin is a crafted set, you could make it as a heavy set, use it on your body pieces

then get more dmg by using a dropped medium set for armor/weapons

helm i would just use a monster set to fit your needs (sustain/shields, etc)

if your primarily mostly only running with your partner and duoing most content, then should be sufficient

Overland and non-dlc dungeons are trivial these days. Get yourself up to 30k-35k hp using attributes and health glyphs on armor. Run a One-hand and Shield on your backbar where you keep your main bust heal, a heal-over-time, your armor buff and whatever other tools you need. If your partner wants to you to taunt then that too. Basically this is buffbar and a fallback defensive option when things get tight.

Your front bar can be all offensive tools like your spammable. For a two-hand you can easily run Uppercut and Reverse Slice (whichever morphs you prefer of those) a source of Savagery/Prophecy, perhap a debuff and maybe another heal.

Dragonknights and Wardens are very apt for this style of play and it's basically how I've been tanking for the last five years. It does take some practice and experience if you want to do vet dungeons this way, however. I'd suggest have some backup tools so that you can go full tank to learn how to deal with vet content and then strip away the defense as you become more confident.

As for sets, you can basically run whatever you want. Wretched Vitality is a great backbar set that will keep you full-steam ahead at all times whether you're tanking or spanking. And it's craftable. A decent Utility monster set like Bloodspawn is great and fairly easy to obtain early on as you learn the ropes. That leaves room for whatever you want on your frontbar and you still have room for a single piece of Trainee for more health and a mythic or another 1 piece of Druid's Braid for yet more health. You can easily run 1 piece heavy chest, 1 light belt, and 5 heavy to max out your damage-to-defense ratio.
