My Antiquities Leads feedback.

Hi, I started playing ESO in about April, I currently have about 1300 hours played and my primary activity is completing Antiquities. Today I finally "completed" the West Weald zone. To be precise it is not 100% finished because I don't have a Lead called Bthzarki Tonal Pipes (drop from HoF last boss), but besides that I have all 3/3.

I would like to write what experience I have and what I would like to change. It's good that the West Weald doesn't have too many things to find. However, when it comes to drop Leads and their placement (where we can find them), I would say that for the first lore (1/3) drop Leads are fine, but if it's 2/3 and 3/3, I would like to increase the chances of drop Leads here. The other thing is the huge amount of Leads from Treasure Maps (I'll elaborate a bit more below) and these Leads should be distributed somewhere else in the future (random mobs in some delve/treasure chest (those that spawn randomly in a given zone differently around the map) for example, etc).

I would welcome an increase in the chance for 2/3 and 3/3 lore for activities that are not easy to reproduce. For example, Lead from delve boss or Lead from Mirrormoor is ok because you can easily do these activities by yourself solo but Leads like the one you drop in HoF or Leads from WB here I would like to see the chances for Lead drop to be much higher than they are now, (at least the trial Leads..) because these activities like trials/wb etc. are not so easy to repeat quickly.

For example when I did 2/3 of The Shadows Queen's Cowl the Lead from WB dropped after about 30 kills, for 3/3 it was after about 25 kills, the same for the Lead from Moongave Fane GD and the chances for Leads from activities like these should be increased in my opinion.
Lead from HoF, 1/3 has a 100% chance to drop, as for 2/3, I've been HoF about 6 times and I still don't have a Lead, I personally don't like Trials + when I play I don't find it easy to find a group for a specific Trial so again, the chances for Lead from Trials should be very high in my opinion.

And now comes my biggest pain, the Leads from Treasure Maps. There are quite a few of them and I personally burned over 4 million gold on Treasure Maps.
1/3 can be given relatively easily from a few maps, but then comes 2/3 and here the drop from these maps is much smaller and if you then want to get 3/3 lore then it is a pain, not only because you have Lead from every 15 maps but you also get those, for example, you already have 3/3, so when it comes to 3/3 completions, you have to do it practicaly within 30 days and not dig the ones you already have 3/3.

Yesterday I was missing the last 5 Leads from the Treasure Maps to complete everything on the 3/3 lore. I bought 55 Treasure Maps and got a total of 3 Leads out of the 5 I was missing. Today I had to open another 25 maps in total to get the remaining 2 Leads.

So if you want to give a complete 3/3 furnishing things from Treasure Maps in West Weald, you now have a unique opportunity thanks to the event that has just started because the prices of these maps are really low now! If there was no event and the prices would stay somewhere around 25k per map, you would have a painful experience like mine.
That's why I think there should be less Leads in Treasure maps or it should be possible to get these Leads also from Treasure chests that spawn randomly around the map, not only from Treasure Map.

This is how I would describe my experience with West Weald Leads.
I have Khenarthi's Roost and Auridon complete (all 3/3) and am currently working on Grahtwood.

What would I like to change and welcome? Some of this:

Increased Leads drop chance for 2/3 and 3/3 lore. (if not for everything, at least for activities such as Trials/WB/Bg/daily things, etc.)

In IA, to be able to get Leads even from the chest after killing the stage boss, or to extremely increase the drop from those "side" chests. (I do 2 Arc in IA per day and really 2/3 is absolutely hard to get Lead)

Introduce some kind of protection into the game so that the player get guaranteed drop a given Lead at a certain moment. Something in the way that the drop chance would start at 15%, for example, and would increase by say 10% with every kill/opening chest, and this would ensure that after a certain amount of kill/open chests, etc., the player would get Lead.

Or some coffer box that could be bought for gold and that would contain, for example, a random Lead.
Just some possibility for the player to get Leads from activities he doesn't like in a different way than the given activity. In the next update, it will be possible to buy 2 Leads per week for mythical things from the vendor in IC, also in IA you can buy random 2 Leads per week, which is good, but I would still like something more. :p

Or make Leads tradable. Someone likes BG or trials and I believe that these players have no problem getting Leads from these activities, they would simply sell the Lead, a player who doesn't like these activities but wants a Lead would simply buy them, both sides are happy, one earns some gold, the other has Lead and you don't have to do a trial..

There will certainly be more ideas and possibilities, but probably the simplest would be (and it would be enough for me) to increase a chances for Leads from activities such as trials/pvp/daily/wb, etc. These activities are not easily available and the current chance to drop Leads from these activities they are too small for me.

That's how I see it, I don't speak for all players but I'm just giving my personal opinion on Antiquities Leads. I like this and it's my primary drive for playing ESO.
But as I wrote, I would like to welcome a increased chances to get Leads for the second and third lore, if not globally, then at least for specific activities.

Thanks for reading and I will be glad for your opinions/or any other ideas. :)

Pretty much what you experienced in the zone pretty much happens with all leads currently. The lead drops can be extremely random at times. It defiantly seems like the first drop of a lead is almost guaranteed. I was just doing some world bosses and world events for the in game event and got a new lead almost every time.

All in all though there have been topics discussing this and rng in general. I think the developers are trying to implement new ways to obtain leads. The infinite archive is one example and I think with the upcoming update 44 an IC vendor should get mythic item leads. Even with those two though its still fairly limiting.

I have been doing full zone completion the last couple of weeks with a new character. I go into a zone with my new main, complete every quest and read every lore book, complete any random achievement that I didn't get yet (like fishing) and then switch to my previous main which has all the antiquity skills and grind of leads to complete the zone (also collecting the zone sets as I go along too). Personally, could drop the zone sets and just focus on the codex entries since I like collecting the lore.

Considering I have spent about 4 to 6 hours for a single lead sometimes I think the lead drops need to be looked at again. Either increase the drop rate for leads that take longer to do like dungeons, world bosses,.....trials (I haven't gotten the dov'ra sabatons yet but I'm dreading it) or have a ramping up drop rate increase like what you have mentioned.

The alternative would be to add more rotating stores which tbh would be welcomed. You could have leads for undaunted keys or alliance points at a battlegrounds vendor and undaunted enclaves. You could also post a single guy at the antiquity HQ in western skyrim that has 3 to 5 leads for gold. The antiquity guild doesn't do all that much outside of studying the things I sent them so it would at least seem like they are doing something more to try to help you with your field work like hiring someone to find leads of artifacts for you (hence the gold commission for the awesome contractor going out and doing the grind for you).

The tldr of this is rng is annoying, I like finding antiquities for lore and completion, the rng can suck the fun out of the game at times, we need an improvement to the drop rate or more alternative means of obtaining leads.

As a massive farmer of Antiquity Codex entries, West Weald non-treasure maps leads were easy to farm all 3 times compared to Elsweyr's and Dragonhold's for example. For WW treasure maps leads, I got almost a lead every map dug for now.

Impressive, that's over 7 hours every single day for up to 181 days straight. Are you doing this for a job, maybe you're a streamer? An antiquity streamer would be interesting.

Yes, exactly, when I finished Cat's Eye Prism in Khenarthi's Roost I spent about 4 hours for 2/3 and about 6 hours for 3/3 farming enchanting node. I actually don't mind this because it's an easy activity, I listen to music and relax while doing it. But things like trials etc should have a really high chance of dropping Leads.
The Dov-Rha Sabatons you mentioned, I don't even have them 1x. I have dug the 4 necessary Leads but the last 5 I just don't have (the one from Sunspire, I was that trial 8x and 0x Lead). I don't understand why it can't drop from classic dragons flying in Elsweyr zone too, why only from dragons in Sunspire?

So that's why I'm trying to mention these things because I'm of the opinion that the drop chances of Leads from certain activities should definitely increase. Also, with this strong RNG, you can easily go Sunspire 50x and have 0x Lead, so this would also seem like a crazy possibility to me (though not unrealistic...).

Same as the Bastion nymic activity (or whatever it's called), there are also Leads but getting people is a problem.. (I was maybe 2x just to try and no one from my guild was interested, also global chat zero interest, so I ended up going solo..) Plus going solo is quite a long time (at least for me) and it's a daily activity (1x per day) so..
And the list of similar things is long, all we can hope is that ZOS plans to do something about it and mitigate the "bad RNG" etc..

I play a lot when I have free time, ESO has become my "primary" game and I'm currently only playing ESO (waiting for the D4 expansion and hopefully Poe 2 at the end of the year maybe beta). I work 15 days a month and have the rest of the month off, and since I'm single I have a lot of time to play (some days I play for 16h..). So..
I'm not a streamer and I don't even have gaming as a job, I'm very much into PC gaming, since my youth, I remember gaming evenings and nights at D2 a long time ago and somehow it's still with me so far, that "love" for gaming... And ESO is practically the only game of this genre that caught me so much, I'm more of an RPG guy but I say, I've fallen in love with ESO so far...

It's good to see that the RNG god is with you, and it's also good to see another person who enjoys completing the codex. :)

I really like the idea of treasure map leads also being available in treasure chests found in the zone. There isn't much in treasure chests overland and this would make them more interesting.

Yes, let's say that in Treasure maps leads would have a slightly higher chance of dropping and in those Treasure chests that appear on the map the chance would be also but significantly lower than from maps. For example, the Lead for Echoes of Aldmeris in Auridon can be gotten just from the Treasure chest, and when I did a 3/3 on that one, running around Auridon and looking for/discovering the chest was always accompanied by an exciting "what if there's a lead inside" feeling, yknow...
So why not have that elsewhere? :)

Just to go on this a bit more I wish the dungeon leads could drop from any boss in the dungeon. Not just from the final boss. I literally made it a daily in my mind to run the dungeon I needed once a day with a PUG in order to try to get it. The torc with captain blackheart is one of the more painful ones. Relatively long dungeon even when you know the skip to the first boss. I had to run that dungeon 5 times before I got my first drop and this was around 10 to 20 minutes per run depending on the group I got. The dlc dungeons are more mechanic based or have puzzles so it gets kind of annoying when you have to run these more than 2 times.

Other ideas I had in mind to try introducing better drop rates for leads: passive in the antiquity lines that makes 1 to 3 leads have double the drop chance every day. Make them sparkle or something in the codex book. Antiquity hireling that gives a random lead from anywhere per day. A food buff that grants lead insight and increase your chances at finding a lead (could combine with an addition to the crafting champion points too which would mirror the fishing passives).

Plenty of ways I can see it improve but I think just a general drop increase overall and more rotating stores in my original post is still the best ways to improve on the system.

Only 5 times? I've been trying to get a lead from the final boss of another dungeon and have run it at least 15 times so far with no luck. I didn't bother slogging through the same dungeon today.

Yeah, I know it, Lead from Moongrave Grave (Penumbral Oil), I had to go around 30 times for 2/3 lore and around 25 times for the last 3/3 lore, so I know it. But still, it's one thing to go GD which is "easy" to do via group finder and another thing to go Trial for example. As I wrote, I've been 8x Sunspire which = 24 dragons and no Lead(I have 0/3 lol), this bothers me a lot... That's why I'm glad that after the next update in IC it will be possible to buy Leads for mythic stuff (it's still 150 Leads and to find some specific ones is a matter of luck but better than nothing...) and when fortune smiles on a person there will be some Lead which is from Trial.

Yes some passive/or passive in the CP tree to increase the chance of drop Leads would be cool, or some drink/scroll (like xp scrolls or ambrosia) that would increase the chance of drop Leads after using it for some time would be cool too.
