Corpseburster is delightful

Hey there,

Im gonna post here bc Ive been looking for further informations about the newest necro set. I've only been reading pure hate about this and I didnt understand why such hate on a set that on paper has such good potential.

So I've been testing it here and there. I dont have all the pieces yet so I had to go with what I looted those two last days and ended up with a setup quite looking as my usual one. I usually run runecarver and relequen on a magcro - thats my favorite class but the rotation it asks is so painful compared to other classes, I've been forgetting a little about him. I had around 110K dps on parse with it, which is pretty decent for 95% of contents im interested in, but its so exhausting that in real conditions it drains me and forbids me to have flexspots. On corpseburster, ive been thinking this way :
- You want to maximize the number of class skills you have on your bar
- You want to maximize the number of corpses you eat
- I, personnally, want a rotation that's less exhausting and, if possible, less reliable on periods of 30s to achieve max dps (which, on fights where you need to switch targets etc, is a pain compared to the required 8sec for the Arcanist please nerf it)

So how to manage all of this ? Well, I read everywhere that the necro is supposed "not to eat as many corpses than that", except if you decently use the green tether to do so. The green tether explodes when you recast it on a new corpse, consuming a new corpse, which procs the corpseburster, your ult regen passive and now gives you access to prophecy/savagery (nice, less micromanaging on top on all micromanaging necro requires).

It would do something like - I enter with prebuffing archer into blastbones, tether, stamskull maxxed, blastbones once again, graveyard to eat the corpse, stamskull maxxed, blastbones, tether the newest corpse, stamskull maxxed, blastbones...

And with this rotation based on direct damages mostly on a full frontbar that contains both major brutality/sorcery and major prophecy/savagery, I end up reaching easily 103K, with corpseburster doing the same amount of DPS as my Relequen (11 to 12K). The rotation permits me to have flexspots on my backbar, it permits me to use harvest without loosing a gdc bc gosh Corpseburster on parse kicks a burst of max 70K on my actual setup (its as much as my blastbones !!), it is so RELIEVING in micromanaging ! As always on necro it does ask you to have a pretty static fight but you come to your max dps way more easily. You're semi-spammable is free so your pitiful ressource regeneration is not that much of a problem on solo content anymore, and GOSH i've been waiting for that, waiting to have newest ways to play this class that's my absolute favorite and now you tell me you reward me to have as many necro spalls as I can by not making them miserable anymore?

And i've not even been optimizating the thing yet, its actually pretty pretty decent already ! Why so much hate on something so promiseful?

    I want to back this up and hopefully bump this thread for other Necromancers wanting something new! I have also been pulling just over 100k with it on Magcro with Ricochet Skull and a flame staff front bar using Rele and Kjalnar for my other sets. It's still a little micro-managey, but this set has a lot of potential depending on how we build around it. I still need to test it with a lightning staff and juggle some cps to see what hits hardest, but this has some real potential for damage on Necro that doesn't get tanked as soon as we have to replace all our dots three times in a row.

    I'd love to hear what other people have found testing it too!

    I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was in PvP. It's slightly less damage than your Rush, Tarnished, or Flame Blossom procs, but has the upside of not really having a cooldown, meaning you can proc it in an offensive combo, then immediately proc it again with a defensive corpse consumer.

    I thought it would be very difficult to land, and while it's a little tough, if you time your combo right with a stun, you can land it reliably via Graveyard/Graverobber.

    It brought back a strong Rushcro combo. Blastbones > Rush > Contingency > Dawnbreaker > Graverobber procs corpseburster reliably on a group of enemies, and the full combo will reliably kill most players, especially if you have other teammates pumping out damage.

    I tested it on PTS before they fixed the scaling error that it had, so I wasn't really impressed with it back then, but now that the damage scaling has been fixed, it's surprisingly good.

    It's a fun set for sure. I originally tried it on the PTS without using Siphon as a semi-spammable and found it lackluster, but after I changed my rotation a bit I definitely liked it. The rotation I settled on looks pretty similar to yours, though I use Traveling Knife instead of Venom Skulls most of the time.

    Now that I got the set on the live server I've been using it in vet Vateshran Hollows and versus various DLC World Bosses, and it works quite well in content for me too. Corpseburster often ends up being my second highest damage source. The below numbers of a solo fight against the Hadolid Matron WB in High Isle are nothing to write home about and my single target DPS was pretty bad, but Corpseburster's proc dealt quite a bit of damage relative to my other skills for example:

    While not the best example of damage due to poor weaving and still in need of CP optimization and golding the jewelry, I have been consistently hitting 99k with the set through using Detonating Siphon whenever a corpse is available and I don't need to refresh Unnerving Boneyard within 3 seconds. Relequen only hit around 2k harder for me, but again, I'm out of practice at weaving with a staff and don't want to lean into daggers on my Necro. However, I'm posting the Yandir parse over the Relequen because this is the highest DPS I've ever gotten out of it as a trial set for single target, even hitting harder than when I paired it with Aegis Caller. I don't think this set fixes all of Necromancer's issues, however its refreshing to have a set option that injects some power into the class across the board while leaning into the class fantasy without making the rotation more complicated. Obviously this might not be the case in content, but I think this set will also help with their mobility issues as it becomes beneficial to re-place this dot early.

    Ahhh thank you all! I got a little scared while posting bc i was expecting people to barf at me once again about the set and I'm relieved to see some have experienced it as well!

    This, just because a set looks great on paper doesn't make it fun or engaging to use. You mentioned that it's exhausting to keep corpses up, ready, and able to efficiently use the set and I believe this is wholly what necro needs work on.

    The corpse mechanic is not nearly as fun/engaging with necro as opposed to arcanist, for example, and it is FAR more situational.

    It feels like a watered down version of "Corpse Explosion" from Diablo II.
    Pop Blighted Blastbones (heavy attack), hit Detonating Siphon.
    Repeat.
    After the first couple of enemies drop, you dont even need blastbones anymore.

    Definitely not optimal or "meta", but can be fun to watch the boom.

    Since Ghostly Embrace will now guarantee a corpse, the set would be even more viable now, corpse generation will be faster than BB or GLS skulls.

    It'll generate a corpse but that doesn't guarantee that it'll be in a usable location for damage.

    I could see it working in PvE but I doubt will ever reliably work in a PvP environment with more dynamic enemy movement.

    Pop Blighted Blastbones (heavy attack), hit Detonating Siphon.

    It makes it a nice secondary or trash set for Necro HA builds, since they generally lack AoE pressure (though this is less of an issue since Scribing).
