Do NPCs recognize you if you're playing on an alt?

I got tired of playing my dragon knight after finishing the base game zones and was wondering if a new alt character would be recognized by returning NPCs? I heard that the story can change quite a lot if you're on a character that has done previous content.

I'm curious because when I was running around in Riften on my alt a random npc acknowledged me for something I haven't done. I have this urge to 100% every zone and I hate missing out on extra dialogue, so I'll do all those zones again if I have to..

actual quests will not recognize your alt characters and you can do different choices in the dialogs

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

errr no? each of your characters is its own separate entity in the world that tackles quests its own way and has its own accomplishments. you won't be known as the slayer of dungeons when you pass by guards until you complete that dungeon on that char either.

ambient NPC dialogue keeps recognizing me for stuff I haven't done on those characters though, that's why I asked.

Some dialogue options are based on achievements. There is an NPC who will have an extra dialogue option if you are a (former) emperor even if your new character hasn't done anything.

And sometimes the game is just buggy. My new baby char get recognized for amazing Reaper March even though this character hasn't done anything 😅

yeah those are some of the "carry overs" from when they made most achievements account wide

im sure its not ideal if you want total immersion though
