Half of my settings reset after power outage during playing

There's strong wind in my area currently, and the power went out while I was crafting decorations for a housing project. When the power came back, I logged back in and the game treated me as if I had just installed the game?? And it even asked me if I play in NA or EU and which country I'm from?? And then I get to character screen, music blasting, even tho I had it turned off. Once I enter the world, I find out the game had reset some of my video, audio and camera settings... This has never happened before, I don't understand why this would happen since you literally can't predict power outages?? I'm baffled and annoyed, I can't foresee such an event to turn off the game before the power goes out to not have this happen... I'm too scared to look at my addon settings, but I assume they should be fine since they're stored client-side.

I used to have that happen when the game locked up....sometimes having to go through the initial setup. I made a script to backup the Live directory right before I started playing..might want to do something like that.

This happens to me every time with a sudden stop to the game. Anything that causes a ctd or sudden power loss settings reset to default.

Oh! Thanks for the info, it's a relief to hear it isn't a weird bug! I was so worried.

i'd recommend backing up your documents\elder scrolls online folder occassionally to prevent you from being troubled with something like that. I back it up very often so i don't have to change all my settings when i reinstall and keep all my addons.

I mean a sudden power outage causing the PC to shut off unexpectedly has the potential to cause all sorts of problems, not just related to eso.

I have a low-end UPS that's just enough to keep my PC running for about 5 minutes, giving me an opportunity to shut things down properly. But of course that may not be an option for everyone - this is also why it's good to create backups occasionally.

In terms of this particular issue, it seems like an unexpected crash or shutdown of eso can sometimes corrupt local settings files and the game replaces them with defaults... other than the annoyance of fixing the settings, I wouldn't expect any other issues from it.

Valid point and this will work in most cases, though sometimes it doesn't.

Oh, this would explain what happened, yeah. It was so unexpected it made me scared I'd have lost all the decorating I did, but since it's just local files and not server side, my house was intact after I went to doublecheck.

For ESO specifically it does work flawlessly every time I've transferred over, also FFXIV, as long as you keep the whole folder intact. Something like Guild Wars 2 most of the non-graphical settings are all saved server side like keybinds & such IIRC. If you change mods or something you can just remove the settings/mods through your mod manager of choice usually to keep it cleaned up.
