Trouble with a boss in Archive

I have two separate issues going on here.

I created a new character recently, and for some reason when using him, every single Archive run I get this boss at 1 - 4 - 3. Every time, without fail, 7 runs on the trot. Possibly bad RNG, but I've come to the conclusion he's going to be waiting for me every run, and I only have time for 2 runs a week, so I have to learn to deal with him or go back to using another character. If there's a way of shuffling bosses, I'd love to know what it is.

Second issue, the pillars pop up, he does his thing, I stand behind the pillars, sometimes I live, sometimes I die. I make sure the pillar is between me and the boss and I'm stood a bit of a distance back from it. It seems random whether or not I get blown up while standing behind the pillar. Is there another mechanic here I'm missing? Is it a case of I have to be in a precise line behind the pillar with very little wiggle room?

I've gone from consistently hitting top 20 on the leader board each week to not even getting on it because of this one boss, so any help appreciated.

This fight has always been buggy in IA. As long as you didn't have a curse on you it could just be the fight bugging out. I just try burn him down as fast as possible and hope the pillar mechanic works as intended.

I had that exact same problem. Here is how I solved it. The pillars hit for about 40k.

I created the highest health set of armour I could make. When i get this boss I port out and go reset my points all into health, mundus stone etc. Gets my health to about 45k which i set up in my armoury assistant. When the pillars get me I don't die. After the boss I port out again and reset. After that I rarely die as other than the pillars he's easy.

The one thing to look out for is, even if the pillars go up, hiding behind the pillar right away might not be the right thing to do.

If your screen turns blue, even if the pillars are up, you need to run to a pad on the edge to cleanse his curse, and then you need to go back to hiding behind a pillar. If you don't cleanse the curse first, you will die from that mechanic before the pillar mechanic even matters.

i only very rarely saw this fight bugged, back when the pillars were either despawning too soon, or spawning too close to the edge of the map

6/10 times i usually burn the boss down before the explosion phase, 3/10 times i burn the boss down before the curse phase, only 1 out of 10 times i actually see this boss use the explosion, and it usually works fine for me, the only time ive gotten hit with it is when im not behind a pillar (but im usually on my 43k hp tank when this happens so it still fails to kill me)

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

There is a mechanic where he curses you with a blue projectile. You need to cleanse on a pad or it will insta-kill you after a while. There is another mechanic where he gains a damage shield while doing AoE damage pulses. You need to break through the damage shield or eventually the AoE damage pulses will ramp up and kill you. I think sometimes people confuse those 2 mechanics with the hide-behind-a-pillar mechanic.

The pillar can be buggy, but I do see people sometimes focusing too much on the pillars and missing other mechanics.
