How long to get Ink Amasser achievement?

I’m at 126/500, despite playing 3-5 hours a day content that should bring me ink.

I do archives daily and have never had an ink drop from it.

My main source was from nodes, but since there’s an infestation of bots that are farming them, the competition for nodes is horrendous (the bot problem needs to be addressed urgently!)

At the current drop rate of ink, I’d estimate it’d take me 2+ years to get ink amasser, which is absurd.

Suggested improvements for ink drops:
- guaranteed ink with trial end boss (1 ink on normal, 2 on vet, 4 on vet hm)
- guaranteed ink with each kill of Th’oat in archives (1 ink regardless of Arc)
- 25% chance of ink drop with dungeon end boss (1 ink on norm, 2 on vet, 3 on vet hm)
- 20% chance of ink drop on DLC zone WB (1 ink)
- …then just keep the other sources as they are for ink drops

Add these into either a u43 patch in 2 weeks, or in u44 as a priority please.

the update hasnt changed the amount of ink im getting lol, all it did was add more sources to get them (chests/heavy sacks) but in the near 3 weeks its been out on pc, i still have yet to see a single ink from HS or chests lol

i would really like if they added some more reliable way to get inks

Got this one before they "fixed" the drops. It did require effort to do, but anytime there wasn't much going on, instead of just standing around, I'd go pick up nodes. An hour, or possibly 2 (about all I can stand in one go) and 15-25 inks in that amount of time seemed to be the norm.

Pretty sure the key is finding somewhere that you can maximize your "nodes per minute" Starter zones seem to be best for this, assuming there aren't several other people doing the same thing.

i wish it was that easy, even when i was farming nodes like that, i still rarely if ever got more than 1 ink drop in an hour

Yes. I got ink yesterday on a blacksmithing survey.

The drop rate from surveys doesn't appear to be great. I did 199 surveys on Sunday and received 4 ink.

Not enough data to determine anything.

Every ink appeared to come on the first node, but again not enough data to know if that is a pattern.

A friend of mine got an ink from a backpack in a dungeon, twice (different dungeons). I was there with him and I can confirm it was true.

I get about 4 a day on average playing between 2 and 6 hours.

Again an average though, I could get non I gotten as high as 10 in one day

I never realized there was another tier for this achievement after the 50. 500, are you freaking kidding me!??? And none of the ones you get from event rewards (like the current Golden Pursuits) count nor the ones you buy from other players via guild traders. Some of the grinds in this game are truly ridiculous!

It's not so bad. It was intended to be a long term achievement. But then ZOS caved and increased the drop rate (and even overcompensated IMO).

Took me just shy of 4 months, and that was before the droprate increased. These days I sell stacks of the stuff quite regularly and always seem to have at least 400 in my bag at any given time. Shouldn't take very long to complete anymore.

I've only had scribing unlocked for a month. Started playing again 3 months ago last week. In that time I got 254 ink from the quest, nodes and daily logins. I haven't even done much node farming since having it unlocked.

I think people here are being a tad exaggerative with the 4 a month stuff.

Keep in mind that those ink drops all happened after:

1) a bug being fixed: bosses didn’t originally drop ink

2) at least two new sources being added intentionally: heavy sacks (which have a relatively high drop rate of ~10% in 300-ish pulls I’ve tracked) and treasure chests

3) two new sources being added without documentation: event coffers and blacksmithing surveys, the latter of which have dropped ink since they added the Hroldan mining customized action with U43 (so likely a bug)

and

4) more opportunities for ink in daily login rewards and from resource events (which give two pulls in one, nearly doubling the chance of ink drops from resource nodes)

4 in a month may be an exaggeration for people actively trying for these drops, but at the beginning it was certainly slower going.

Looking at my achievements, I completed the questline 6/30/24. Currently I'm at 257/500 as of posting this, or half ways after a year. I do play every day, though mostly that's writs and endeavors on weekdays. I haven't been trying to complete achievement.

One final thing, I have credit for 257, but I have over 300 Inks in my bag.

The drop rate was adjusted drastically since scribing launched. I get one almost every other heavy sack and quite often from treasure chests. Heavy sack are def a good way to get 500 if you're still trying.

Some sources do not count, like buying off of guild stores or trading directly with players. The 20x for each of two different rewards with the current GP did not advance the GP task to get 10, so they may not have applied to the achievements either.

I haven’t checked whether daily login rewards count.

It only took me a few weeks of casual farming. Currently sitting on over 1000. I'll never use them all.

Drop rates do feel nerfed now, but I'm getting more ink from random sources.

If you have multiple characters, you can run through the entirety of the Scribing quest line on each character and get the achievement in a couple days. I believe it's 15 ink per character if you do the whole questline?

The questline gives 12 per character. With the maximum 20 characters, you'd be 48% of the way there.
