Hello Forums!

For all those starting the Gold Road Chapter today, here's a brief guide with some pictures from my site on how to start scribing:
What is scribing? Scribing is the new "spell crafting" mechanic in the Elder Scrolls Online, allowing you to create customized skills from many different scripts

How to Unlock Scribing in ESO

Travel to West Weald zone near cyrodiil and locate Adept Inard Rimii in the Mages Guild. You can travel to West Weald Vineyard Wayshrine, but you must have the new Gold Road Chapter. Scribing is not an addition to the base game, so you must upgrade your game to unlock scribing.

One inside Skingrad, travel to the Mage's Guild where you find an NPC named Adept Irnard Rinil with a quest marker above him. He will give you the quest "The Second Era of Scribing."
Completing this first short quest gives you access to the Scholarium, the central scribing location. Here, you'll make your skills and recreate them whenever you want to change your build. This first quest gives you access to the Grimoire "Wield Soul," but you'll need to continue questing to unlock the rest of the skills.

If you're looking on your map, you can always locate the Scholarium through the Eyevea map, now shown on your world map with the Gold Road.

The next quest, "The Wing of the Indrik," gives you full access to the scribing altar. It also creates a portal you can freely travel with whenever you like.
You'll have to travel to Auridon and follow the quest helper to continue this quest and fully unlock scribing in the Elder Scrolls Online. You are tasked with finding and dispelling large sigils in a few locations, but the rest of the quest is very straightforward. You must continue the quest line to unlock the rest of the scribing functions.

Where to get Luminous Ink
rpn6mv8u9t0t.jpg

Luminous Ink is the currency used to scribe, and you consume ink every time you edit your skills. There are a few notable ways to acquire ink, but they are also tradeable, meaning you can farm them and sell them to other players later if you like. You can also earn ink through the questline. The scribing quests also each award you with three ink for 12 ink on the house.
After you finish the quests, you can also get Luminous Ink through enemy drops or resource node farming. Ink drops from enemies after completing Wing of the Indrik, and you can find it in resource nodes after completing Wing of the Netch. Overall, you'll want to farm up a decent amount of Luminous Ink to play around with different skills and try new things.
Congratulations! You've unlocked scribing in the Elder Scrolls Online and have everything you need to start developing your own skills!

Thank you so very much for this guide. I made the mistake of starting the zone and began the storyline quest, which thus far has not taken me to the mages guild. I suspect that the storyline quest will eventually take the player to the mages guild at some point in time (otherwise it would be a massive oversight for the new content). So, thank you for this guide to allow players to begin scribing right away.

Honestly, I have not been following this update and thus I had no idea how to start scribing (although I did a detour and completed a public dungeon and received a spell style without any knowledge of scribing). I was just primarily doing the main storyline quest assuming that it would introduce scribing right away. Glad to find this guide so that I can actually start the new content.

Inard’s outside the Mages Guild in Grahtwood too (I would assume the same for the other Alliance capitols, but have not checked personally as most of my characters are AD.)

I don't seem to find Adept Inard Rimii with my character who yet did not do the Mages Guild quest line. Is that a mandatory prerequisite? To complete the Mages Guild quest line? I have this chapter purchased.

Does anybody know yet if we can we do the Scribing Questline together with a partner (if grouped), or is it only done solo? Thanks in advance for an answer! =^..^= Purrrr

Most of it seems to take place in public areas and delves. The first part might be instanced though.

No, most of my alts haven’t done the Mages Guild questline and they were able to pick up the Scribing quest from Inard.

I've completed all the questline on one character. It says you don't have to do it on every character, just "the tutorial" to open up the salesperson, but exactly what is the tutorial? Where does it end?

"the second era of scribing" quest is the only one you have to do on alts, this is the intro one that you get from the guy in skingrad, and after that completes your done (which is when you unlock the scholarium and the 4 wing quests become available)

should only take roughly 5-10 min
