Hello Forums!
For all those starting the Gold Road Chapter today, here's a brief guide with some pictures from my site on how to start scribing:
What is scribing? Scribing is the new "spell crafting" mechanic in the Elder Scrolls Online, allowing you to create customized skills from many different scripts
How to Unlock Scribing in ESO
Travel to West Weald zone near cyrodiil and locate Adept Inard Rimii in the Mages Guild. You can travel to West Weald Vineyard Wayshrine, but you must have the new Gold Road Chapter. Scribing is not an addition to the base game, so you must upgrade your game to unlock scribing.
One inside Skingrad, travel to the Mage's Guild where you find an NPC named Adept Irnard Rinil with a quest marker above him. He will give you the quest "The Second Era of Scribing."
Completing this first short quest gives you access to the Scholarium, the central scribing location. Here, you'll make your skills and recreate them whenever you want to change your build. This first quest gives you access to the Grimoire "Wield Soul," but you'll need to continue questing to unlock the rest of the skills.
If you're looking on your map, you can always locate the Scholarium through the Eyevea map, now shown on your world map with the Gold Road.
How to Unlock the Grimoires and Scripts
The next quest, "The Wing of the Indrik," gives you full access to the scribing altar. It also creates a portal you can freely travel with whenever you like.
You'll have to travel to Auridon and follow the quest helper to continue this quest and fully unlock scribing in the Elder Scrolls Online. You are tasked with finding and dispelling large sigils in a few locations, but the rest of the quest is very straightforward. You must continue the quest line to unlock the rest of the scribing functions.
Where to get Luminous Ink
Luminous Ink is the currency used to scribe, and you consume ink every time you edit your skills. There are a few notable ways to acquire ink, but they are also tradeable, meaning you can farm them and sell them to other players later if you like. You can also earn ink through the questline. The scribing quests also each award you with three ink for 12 ink on the house.
After you finish the quests, you can also get Luminous Ink through enemy drops or resource node farming. Ink drops from enemies after completing Wing of the Indrik, and you can find it in resource nodes after completing Wing of the Netch. Overall, you'll want to farm up a decent amount of Luminous Ink to play around with different skills and try new things.
Congratulations! You've unlocked scribing in the Elder Scrolls Online and have everything you need to start developing your own skills!
