Real Scribing Problems

First Off THANK YOU ZOS for cutting down my play time, and allowing me to do other things!!
Over the years, the older and more disabled I get, I have found myself playing MORE, it’s a social thing really! And for Some Strange Reason, I have always thought of others rather than myself, “Before Putting a person down walk a mile in their Shoes!!” , stuck witrh me over my whole life…
Scribing came along and I like many others got excited about the possibilities, went onto the PTS and got to know it more and in reality found that the possibilities were HUGE, but with some obvious Drawbacks!
I have multiple accounts and multiple toons, Not deliberately, it just kind of turned out that WAY, New Chapter = New Toon and the same with the DLC’s . I play to Enjoy myself, not to be competitive, Sometimes I just want to wander around, others do Quests, sometimes I want to DPS (rarely) others its tank but mostly Healer, either way, I am here to enjoy myself and distract from problems. And Until now, its worked GREAT!!!!
BUT…. Scribing, from the PTS until Now, some of the obvious Problems have remained, and they should in all honesty been addressed before release….
So here are a few “Gripes” , Nothing Really Bad as such, but more Depressing! Hence the reduced Play Time….
1. Scribing 1– Loved it on the PTS, Had So many Plans, So Many thoughts for my Toons, But as Yet, with the exception of the Scholarium, I have yet to Scribe one thing! On my main account I have 17 toons, I want to be able to play whichever one, the way I want, but also be able to switch roles as required, Example Being going into a trail, on Veteran, and the Toon I had taken in was Heal/DPS.. Turned out to be a Tad Challenging, and it was switched to a Tank/Healer on the fly, worked a lot better… Then it was Switched again to be an Off Tank, this is how I like to play!!! Not the BEST at singular, but good at All (deferring to other people’s standards here, but My toon, my opinion). Hence Before Scribing I want All of the Toons to the same level. This is where the HURT starts to come in, Do you know how Boring and depressing it is to do the Scholarium, with all of the enforced, stand and listen, go talk to them, come back, go on a quest that involves Stand and Listen, 17 times? I don’t either yet, not got that far, but the 8 I have done, is putting me to sleep!
2. Scribing 2 – COST, I have spent MORE GOLD since this came out than in the past couple of Years, You should have had a way of Earning the grimoires rather than plain having to Buy them at Huge prices, then 10,000 each after that. OK if you’re a DPS / Tank / Healer and do not play any other role, or you are not bothered in being a “Completionist”, but otherwise it’s a PAIN and EXPENSIVE , Too Expensive. This in turn means that you spend a lot of time trying to make money, to buy the Bits, to try them out , if your wrong go back and start again. I am all for making a game give content, I even agree that ZOS NEEDS to make Money as there is a long term benefit to both! But this feels like a force along rather than a reward!
3. Scripts - This is a Messed up System!!! And I am going to be at it Months or a year before I probably get this working. Now in some ways here I am VERY VERY Lucky, I have time, used to be between 04:30 when I got up and finished the days chores until on average 23:30, 7 days per week (No I do not have a life, Old, Disabled and Blind caused by life LMAO ), 19 hours per day , I spend more time on here than the developers, or DID! Everything with the exception of Found Scripts (Bodies / Chests / boxes / Jars), are Account Bound, which you would think with 17 toons, means that its easy to get things for them all… well Yes and NO, Yesterday I finally got Every AFEX Script for Every Toon… YAY……. And a whole Pile of Duplicates about 22 of them! Yet I am nowhere Near completing thew Signature and Focus scripts, Why? I can get 2 from the Guilds and I get 2 from dailies, and although I have a need for LOADS, I still get duplicates! Of ones that are complete for all 17, so do the GRIND , only to feel as If I have wasted My Time! AGAIN Depressing!! If I could do that with all of my toons, then fine, My pace to complete, Yes you can buy them! But since I do not really do the Archive, Not Got Time withy everything else I am doing, And Remember I play more in a day than most do in a week!!! Then it’s only the Scholarium merchant, AND THAT’S 340,000+ gold per week, for 2 or 3 scripts , this will cost Millions, Way out of the reach of the casual player! Why not 10 gold each if you have already bought / have say 4 or more? Yes I know there Scripts to be had in Cyrodil, but as yet I do not know Where! Only the Scouting Mission 1 and the Dailies in the towns which will also give 1…
4. Focus Scripts - 18 Focus Scripts to get out with the Mages Guild, for me that’s 306 Scripts I need to collect, excluding Duplicates of which there are once more many! Collecting 3 per day (Cyrodil I think gives me 1) is 102 days.. Before I collect them all and start Scribing! About 4 months, HAVING TO DO IT EVERY DAY, but I do not go into Cyrodil at weekends, I do not like nor Do PVP, Did too much of it in the Military , and electronic brings back so touchy feelings from Real Life, so I avoid it!
5. Signature Scripts – 16 excluding the mages Guild and Mastery, for me that’s 272 at 2 per day that’s 136 days excluding once again duplicates, and once more there are Lots! Yes you got it 4 Months again
6. Mastery Script – ANNOYANCE, ok I annot remember where, but you got a “voucher”, that once you collected 50, you got the mastery Script! Yay, a way of Saving Gold, at last! With 4 months to Collect the other Scripts , then there should be enough time to get all 850, and I will get all of the toons done for Free….. NOPE!!!! I made the Mistake when I had 69 of them to collect a mastery for the first toon on the page, my crafter, who really only crafts, BUT now I have 19 vouchers, and cannot collect any more!! I now have to buy 16 others!!! I have Been conned again!
7. Script Gold Value – How in the name of (insert expletive here), did you come up with this, and WHY????? Look in your Box, you may have 1 Script 4 times, if you BUY the Script from the merchant for 10,000 gold and buy 1 too many, all you can do is sell it toa merchant for 1 GOLD, that’s a 9,999 loss, but if you have it from a daily Quest it’s resale value to the merchant is either 3 GOLD or 28 GOLD , and if your lucky to find an unbound one, its RRP is 12 GOLD…. 1 / 3 / 12 / 28 GOLD same Script… WHY????? And if you go and check you do not have 8 of the script , but 1 / 4 / 1 / 2 of the exact same script!! Confusing!!!
8. As to the Duplicates, let us exchange them to the Merchant for 10,000 gold And allow us to buy a replacement for the 10,000 gold, its still going to take 4 months, but you will not feel conned!
9. Still on the Duplicates, Why Not make them Stackable? 9 different Scripts, 3 – 8 of each call it 4 for the math, that’s 36 slots in your store! Instead of the 9. You will not give us more slots which would allow us to store them, so let us lose only the 9!!! And Yes I am Keeping them, as since I have spent the time to collect them, YES I am going to make 4 more Toons , just to use them all up!
So there you go, Since I feel as if I do not want to play a single toon with Scribed bit’s on its own, and then not be able to do it on others, I now come in Get the Reward, do the Guilds, do a Set of Dailies, and Leve till the next day… And now I have not got a clue what to do with my time!!!!
INK – This is a little bit of a nightmare for a lot of people! And I Honestly Feel for you all, sitting next to me playing is my Wife, who goes out Farming, looking for ink, and she actually does use them for Scribing, she’s not to bothered about having all her toons the same, so some can use scribed items others cannot… But every now and again she will just shout out INK!!!! A few days ago, we both went out on the “ZOS Farming Simulator 2024” our fun way of both looking for ink, She got 11 in 10 minutes, then got None for the rest of the day, I got 0 all day…. Being Blind I do not notice when I get ink, or if I get ink, usually its playing as a group with friends, then they tell me I got it! And as I pointed out, I am waiting until ALL of my toons can use it, wife who is quite proud of her luck in finding ink, admitted that she has 5 scribed Skills being used, but a couple have been changed which cost her in, But proudly announced that she still has 84 ink left …. Another friend said THAT HE HAD ONLY SCRIBED 3 THINGS, and had also used a couple of inks re-scribing, I annoyed both of than by finding out that apparently I have collected 229 , and had not noticed, since I don’t use them!
But you can take 111 off of that for going through the Scholarium. Once I have them ALL through, that’s going to give me 153 ink, plus save me 170,000 on the soul burst grimoire for them all. Leaving 118 ink collected in the time I have played the game, Every Chest opened, everything lootable looted, everything Killed (NPC Genocide) and looted. I walk everywhere, collecting Every resource I find. Work that back into results Per Hour… 595 hours divided by 118 is a rounded average of 5 inks per hour. So you can get ONE Scribed Skill per hour. This is all based upon your RNG apparently , hence some days you may get 0 after 17 hours of play!
For me this is not a worry, but I feel bad for the Working person, coming home, doing all they have to do, sorting ou the kids etc, and having 1 hour possibly, to play.. it may take them the week to get enough to scribe 1 skill assuming they have the Gold to buy the grimoire…
This is a great possibility system , but the delivery has to be improved. Not so much the ink, as I thing once the Boss bit is sorted, and the chances for Chests and Heavy sacks come in, then it will improve, better RNG or a Higher Standard RNG base Seed would also be appreciated by most. But the Signature and Focus Scripts HAVE to be increased to each Toon, Not Each account. Or Fling it into the Wild and Allow them to be traded or sold, that way the options at least are better all around

✭There doesn't seem to be that much for DPS for scribing really. If you have a tank or a healer there are a few really good options but as for DPS nothing much better than the skills that we already have that I can see. I started out thinking I would go after them all but since they drop all over the place on all sorts of dailies, world, delve, undaunted, imperial city, cyrodill, mages, fighters guilds etc i just got the ones I wanted for my tank and healer and figure I'll come across all the others over time for my DPS toons. Maybe just look at it that way and gather them here and there as time goes on.
Unless I missing something for DPS to use? I understand there needs to be a halt to power creep but was rather surprised.Edited by Veinblood1965 on July 8, 2024 1:28PM1 -

There is some good DPS abilities, but mainly for PVP (bombing) where the 2 second delay for damage can be used to your advantage. Other than that, many of the scribed abilities fall into the "utility" rather than the core combat ability category.
But it was always going to be this way, as I have said several times. Spell crafting in Oblivion/Skyrim could be fun because they're single player games, and nobody cares if the spells are "OP." But here, you have to share the world with other players, and so the abilities need to be "balanced" - aka - boring. So they can give us some things in our kits that are nice and useful, but they're not going to be make or break.1 -

✭✭✭✭✭My main issue is with the inks. They don’t seem to drop too often for me, so I feel paralyzed when it comes to scribing anything as I don’t want to make a mistake. If I had more inks I would actually use the system.3 -

I get the mages & Fighters Guild , then the 2 on the right in the weald (no mirramoor), then do a Scouting report and as town Daily that I think gets me 3 focus and 3 signature, could be wrong! but I do keep getting Duplicates, and that is the bit that's driving me NUTS
Need Loads Yet, and the last thing i need is a Duplicate of Anything!
As I said before, PTSD in a game, sounds Funny, But PVP just pushes all the correct buttons, and i would rather avoid, but I really want to get onto the Scribing Skills,,, So Being Forced to go in, just need to take extras Meds.... "Please Doctor I rteally need more Chill Pills, I have toons to complete!!!" , do not know if he's going to agree with my choices LMAO, but I know I got him into the game,,,, So Doc if your reading this, double my doses , thanks! !
It is the main reason for doing all of the Scholarium, Just for the INK, But I should not need it all, and hopefully my plans work out, so I can Just give it to friends as normal.
DPS Wise, YES there are a lot of Useful Combinations, though I am not a "TRUE DPS", where every little scrap of damage Counts, you are going to gain, but yes you are going to have to replan your rotations, especially if your a One Bar Build, But honest, there are possibilities... RTFM as the old saying goes.
Hopefully the changes / Corrections coming up are going to help you out... if not once i finish all the toons through, hit me up for some lolMy main issue is with the inks. They don’t seem to drop too often for me, so I feel paralyzed when it comes to scribing anything as I don’t want to make a mistake. If I had more inks I would actually use the system.

✭✭You only need to complete Class Mastery once per account, then each char can buy it for a few thousand gold.
I wish they made the guaranteed script from dailies per character, not per account. It would let you pick between progressing one character a day or continue collecting scripts.PC-NA

You only get duplicates if you let yourself get duplicates. Scripts are curated per character/character inventory. Once a character has all the scripts learned use a different one for the first daily of the day from each category.Antiquities Addict3 -

Been doing that! I get a toon down to 1 thing needed, then use it to get in the majority enough for the rest of the toons, but even then you still get the odd duplicate!
A lot of the Afex Script duplicates were by opening the dungeon rewards on a toon that had all the scripts (By accident being in a hurry), even although the dungeons had all been done by toons needing them! my mistake that one.
But its also my point! Limits to *** things BY ACCOUNT, 3 guilds, 3 dailies, per account, but if you open them and the toon you have done it on has all the afix but not the others, you will get Duplicates... it should be curated by Account, not by toon. If they want to do it by toon, then you should be allowed to run each toon.. it is them having their cake and easting it ! whilst you are doing all the supply and baking it0 -

Thorncrypt✭✭✭scribing is all well and good if you just need a specific spell or two to fill gaps in your class' kit however having to rinse and repeat the whole process across multiple alts just makes it significantly less fun. ✭✭✭✭✭My main issue is with the inks. They don’t seem to drop too often for me, so I feel paralyzed when it comes to scribing anything as I don’t want to make a mistake. If I had more inks I would actually use the system.
this is my biggest problem with scribing, the extreme scarcity of ink
in 5.5 weeks ive only gotten 35 ink (12 from the questline)plays PC/NA

I do everything on my main, and will continue to do so throughout. Eventually I should complete the components (but it doesn't look to me like they are curated, I have duplicates where I haven't completed the list). Duplicates get shovelled down to other toons, just like recipes do.
In any case, I am resigned to this taking some time. In that time I will get some ink, probably not much given the drop rate. But hopefully in the reasonably near future (six months or so), I'll have everything I need to see what I can actually do with scripting.
At which point I will probably wonder what all the fuss was all about.1 -

Is it possible that you are getting duplicates because you do not learn a script right away (when you get it) but loot another coffer that drops the same script? I have not received a single duplicate while I was learning the scripts on my main.2 -

the sources for scripts only drop one type of script (affix, signature, or focus)
theres about 25% more affix scripts than signature or focus scripts (i think its 21 focus, 20 signature (-1 because class mastery is its own thing), and 26 affix)
an example is IC dailies, bolgrul undaunted daily, and incursion dailies can only drop affix scripts, if you have all of the affix scripts you get random ones
so it curates within its own loot pool like gear does
for completeness:
rewards of the worth, mages guild daily, and delve dailies only drop focus scripts
cyro dailies (town, bounty boards, etc), fighters guild, and WB dailies only give signature scripts
if your missing a focus script, then you have to do one of those 3 daily types that give focus scriptsplays PC/NA

I am using the same approach. I did the starter quest on several toons so I could actually use my dupe scripts downstream. And I can buy the grims and any scripts I need from IA and scholarium vendors.

There are a lot of aspects to it, what script type come from where, etc. But the drops are curated, so you can unlock all but the scripts you want for other characters on a character you’re doing dailies with. And then you have the option to buy, and at much lower cost if already unlocked, scripts from the Scholarium and the Archive (it would be nice of there were a third vendor for AP).
I accidentally bought some grimoires on characters I hadn’t planned to unlock them, but really a 10k gold mistake or two days of crafting writs.

personally i went through and bought out the entire scholarium vendor on all 11 of my toons
the only one that it was real expensive was my first one (cost about 700k gold), the alts only cost about 110k gold each
between doing that, and stockpiling all of the freebie mages guild scripts, most of my toons are sitting between 40 and 60% of all currently available scribing stuff unlocked
my biggest problem right now is just the severe lack of inkplays PC/NA

JimFord047✭✭✭I am Still only really coming on to do the dailies that I need, Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, 2 from the weald , and 1 from Cyrodil, then off again, I have found that going back into the scholarium , that after 10 minutes i was yawning, and went to my bed, once there i did not need to sleep, so back out and back into the Scholarium.... Yawn Yawn, want to sleep again!!!
Luckily friend came on and we went and messed around... LMAO , Cost me 18 million in gold, bought 2 houses for an achievement , because why not, and gave away 10 million, because wife and friends use gold, I do not! so Once more Why not!
I had to go look this morning, to type this out, but I am now up To 250 inks, Never notice even getting them, (blind do not see it happen) , 21 up since the 8th when the post was put up, that's 21 in 4 days, but take away 6 from the scholarium, this 15 so about 4 per day, that's 1 scribed item, the working out from the start is proving about right!
though having a mess around on the PTS , I was not only getting INK And Nirn bits left right and centre... My normal is Up and Down Craglorn 3-4 times , lots of materials but once in a blue moon Nirn stuff.
One thing i have Noticed of late, is results from nodes are Really BAD!!! hardly any Purple or Gold items but lots of TA on its own,,,,, going for Wood, then Yes ,. getting Wood, but NO Furnishing Materials... Whole areas Devoid of farmable items....
Couple of Weird things I have come across, that the wife said BOT's , Dunno....
Get to a node, go to mine it, and it just disappears, move to the next I can see it, its glowing , before i get to it... it just disappears.. this is happening A LOT!!!
Another was I came across another player , Standing next to a node , I saw it, he was standing there, I went up to it, He Is Still Standing there , I stood next to them, and they just stood there, So I thought AFK, ok I will grab the node, Hit Mine - and was instantly Booted from the Game, I mean front login Screen, no errors Nothing, just out!
I think that those bits might be the reason for the low ink, Players only taking it from Nodes , and Possibly , BOTS , though I dop not know about the bots bit, could be a ZOS Error / Refresh that I was unlucky in having it happen 20 times in a row...0 -

ON the PTS the scripts STACK, and the sale value is not 1/3/12/28 but a flat 999. that eases the pain a little!
But as to Stacking well there is a Slight Problem... if you have 3 @ 1 & 4 @ 28 , you will get 2 stacked items , instead of 1 stack of 7.. Not perfect , but I will take losing 2 slots rather than the 76 of Before stacking!
The Prices in the Scholarium seem to be the same right now,,,,, But this is the PTS, things can and usually do change before the release!
At this time, I have completed MORE of the new chapter on the PTS than the release! Why? simple, I have all the Ink and Scripts, and i can now simply play the game, AND enjoy it... rather than trying farm for the bits to get me there.
The Scholarium as I said is putting me to sleep , its now that Boring! Script on the First and Last, the rest 3 inks each.. still your best source of ink if you have multiple toons!
ONE Thing I Have noticed, that I did not Notice before, Because i did not try it until now!!!
My Toons play Multiple Roles, without ReSpecing, If I want a Soul Burst to Pull everything in as a TANK, not a problem.... But if I decide I want to be a healer , then I cannot make a Soul Burst for healing, its one or the other! They are both made, and if I bring in an armourer, it can give me the heal one, but now I have to repeat the change as the tank... hmmm
LMAO, and before I get fired into , "PICK ONE".... NO!!!! last night we did a Trial me tanking with a friend, One Oops death for me, Forgot and stood in the wrong place! but throughout switching Tank / Heal / DPS as required No Problem's , out of there straight into a Veteran Dungeon as a Healer once more NO Problems , a Tank that Heals, Can Take a lot of punishment, and still do its job.. Its all about having fun.0
