Did Pledge Volenfell Hardmode and got only one key

Is this normal that I only get one single key on occasions after doing a non DLC dungeon on hardmode?
HM was definitely activated as I triggered it and the screen went as usual white for a short time.
I also got only a green transmute gem with three transmutes in it.
I am quite certain that having done the same pledge on hm the same day but on a different toon I got the usual 2 keys and a transmute gem with 5 transmutes in it.
I cannot swear it but I have some reminiscences that this happened yesterday too.

✭Sounds like someone started the fight while you were hitting the scroll and the scroll didn't take, unless you were solo and no one else could have started it, this is most likely what happened.Antiquities Addict1 -
Lykeion✭✭✭✭✭Volenfell's final boss has a long unfixed problem like some other bosses, in that they can easily be reset the moment they enter combat. If you have Hard Mode on, the reset will also disable it, and you'll need to use the scroll again. In Volenfell's case, this process is so fast (less than 1 sec) that you may not even notice it and enter the battle already.5 -

temporary pets are usually what causes this, like the necromancer wraith, or the warden netch
best bet is to usually wait until everything temporary despawns before activating scroll and starting fightplays PC/NA
