Maintenance for the week of November 4:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – November 6, 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EST (23:00 UTC)

It's 2024: please allow us to hide guild tabards at the outfit station. please.

Since the focus at the moment is on QOL, how's about implementing a basic QOL fashion feature we've been asking for since the outfit system was first introduced?

Please give us a toggle to hide equipped guild tabards at the outfit station. We have so many beautiful motifs and styles in this game, and if we want to rep our guild during PVP events or other guild events, we have no choice but to display those hideous tabards (or equip a slightly less hideous costume to hide the hideous tabard). The presumable handful of people who actually like the appearance of guild tabards could continue to display them if they wish.

Pros of allowing us to hide guild tabards:
  • Don't have to mess with your fashion goals (the true endgame) just to represent a guild -- a simple feature that all other MMOs have
  • Better/improved guild camaraderie and representation (i.e. more people would be willing to buy and equip their tabards to rep the guild)
  • Potential recruitment tool (e.g. "Dang, that OP guild just steamrolled the enemy, I want to join them!")

Cons of allowing us to hide guild tabards:
  • None

Please make it happen, ZOS. We've been politely asking for long enough.

P.S. I am aware that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think you'll find that most players dislike the appearance of tabards and would prefer to display a guild tag beneath their name without having to negate the time, effort, gold, and even real life money they put into perfecting their character's appearance.

    I agree!

My "noble" outfit slot fits really good with my guild tabard. The other outfits don't. I want to hide/show my tabard when customizing my outfits

Right? Such a simple request! Please, ZOS!

The costumes available in the crown store and in crates simply cannot compare to the outfits I’ve put together for my characters. Most frustratingly, tabards cover up parts of the chest piece that really should be visible and replace those parts with a generic looking shirt, so it’s not even like you can try to build tabards into an existing outfit (unless you’re using really old motifs — then the chest piece displays properly). It’s just ugly. Also, tabards have a really hideous low res belt that can’t be dyed and generally just look low effort.

Yes please. This is why I don't wear custom outfits, and just use costumes to cover up the ugly guild tabard.

If only we had something to cover up the ugly costumes. B) One of my main beefs with costumes (low res textures and inconsistent dyeing aside) is my Khajiit need their claws free, and there are very few gloveless costumes with sandals / open toe foot wraps that actually look good.

And just to drive my point home, here's my Sorc.

    jf9ajkl2qeyq.jpg

See how pleased he looks? It's because he looks fabulous.

But with a tabard on, just...

    xzrmskgcjm3p.jpg

Meh. Can't even look at the camera. The tabard works with some outfits, but definitely not this one.

    f9weaxtckliu.jpg

The outfit he has to wear to cover up the tabard. Still meh. Not his style at all. How's he supposed to claw at the enemies he streaks through with those ugly clonkers on his feet?

That stare on Ezabi's face. Her eyes scream bloody murder.
Got nothing else to add, all the relevant points were already made.
    Seconded.
What do Guild Wars 2 and The Elder Scrolls Online have in common?
Both have a sword skill called "Flurry" with animations so outright ungodly terrible, they're without equal.

I always find it funny when people have to begin their arguments with, "It's the current year,". You know they also haven't given us hide options for the rest of the body outfit slots, even though they've existed in Dev builds of the game since Vvardenfell.

Q: Will we ever get the ability to hide our guild tabard, like we can hide helms?
A: This is another request that has come up often over the years. We understand how important this is to some of our players, especially our roleplay and ESO fashion enthusiasts! Like the suggestion for guild heraldry on mounts, this is something we do have on our backlog and want to improve the overall experience. It’s also not as simple as turning off the visibility of armor pieces such helms and shoulders, for example, due to how our guild tabards and overhead guild nameplates are coded on the back-end.

maybe it'll happen eventually, but extra posts probably won't make it happen sooner

I’m well aware that they haven’t given us those options either. Based on the slightly negative/snarky tone of this reply, am I to take it that you don’t think it’s worth continuing to ask the team to implement this toggle? If so, I disagree. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, and so on.

Extra posts serve as a reminder that people still want this feature. And ZOS, if hiding the tabard is too difficult… how’s about just coding in a new guild tag option beneath player names that has zero to do with tabards or the outfit system? Most of us don’t actually want to wear the tabards. We just want the guild tags.

Or simply make a new item that has no geometry but displays guild information. Keep the Tabards and just add "Guild ID" to the guild store where you can just buy the ID, put it in the appropriate slot and wallah! No geometry to hide your lovely gear, and your name plate is as it should be. If it requires some sort of geometry because of "reasons" make it small and shiny like army name tags on a necklace.

Another great idea that is surely not overly arduous for the dev team to implement.

I thought guild tabards are optional?

Never wear them myself. Not sure even if my main guild where I am officer actually has one!! 🤣

They’re optional, but if you want to display a guild tag under your name (some PVP guilds require this on guild runs) you have no choice but to wear the tabard
