Why are the class sets generic proc sets again (mostly)?

Please no Monolith of Storms 2.0

More generic damage proc or simple stat increases. Why?
  • Dragonknight: generic DoT proc with execute.
  • Sorcerer: plain stat boost
  • Nightblade: Major Vulnerability, jesus christ
  • Templar: damage proc + some weapon dmg
  • Warden: damage proc + some %dmg
  • Necro: 5m (not even 7m) AoE proc + some %dmg
  • Arcanist: status proc

Why 5-piece again? We've already got 600 of those.
Class sets should be like arena weapons where they alter skills, or even passives and ultimates.
Here are some examples:
  • A Templar set that makes Gravity Crush a self-synergy and pull.
  • A Sorcerer set that reverses Amplitude into execute damage or turns Mage's Fury into a spammable (call it Reverse Polarity or something)
  • A Warden set that makes the Bear ultimate more like the Selene monster set
  • A Necro set that turns the Goliath into a summon instead of a transformation
  • An Arcanist set that makes the Languid Eye a PBAOE like Permafrost
  • A Nightblade set increases the ultimate cap at the expense of ultimate cost
  • A Dragonknight set that turns all you class flame damage into blue coldfire which makes your flame damage proc Chilled and Brittle

If anyone can come up with other possible class sets, please share. This way I can read and pretend instead of suffering zenimax' proposal.

Even though I do look forward to trying some of the new sets on Monday, back when Class Sets were first announced I did hope that they'd be 2 or 3 piece sets that worked more similar to what you suggested. Considering that the first lines of the current Class Sets are pretty standard anyways, just having the last effect on set that required less pieces could've lead to some more interesting gear setups.

As a DK main, I appreciate the execute for a class ability. But I'd rather have major/minor buff or something. Still looking forward to trying it out.

I just want to highlight this specific bit right here.

Yup. We already got far too many of those. And this also means that the new class sets need to compete with all those other sets. Any new 5-piece set will compete against this massive pool that already exists.

Making them 3-piece or 4-piece would introduce actual variety. As it currently stands, they will just be background noise.

They have shown that they are capable of this. Some of the signature scripts in the scribing system for example.
Like Wayfarer's Mastery interacting with a specific skill line passive.

It sometimes feels like they don't write down what they've learned and keep making the same mistakes.

maybe they'll make 2 or 3 piece class sets after each class skill line has a 5 piece set first.
That makes more sense than giving 1 class skill line a 2 piece set and the other a 5 piece set.

    edited to add:
i expect the 3rd class sets to also be 5 piece sets of course.

and they could make 2 piece sets for each class ultimate for example

I sorta wish they'd done them as 2- or 3-piece sets.

I see some of these as useful depending on their damage values, which we won't see until Monday. Some people complained that the first group of sets were too complicated (Warden & Necro, for example). I don't mind if they're straightforward to describe as long as they open new skill combos or have a place in the meta.

Like the sorc one's a bit straightforward (and punishes you for using Storm Atronach ult), but I hope it's at least good enough to wear because I want the purple effect without using the style pages. : P I'd take that over Monolith of Storms.

NB set is going to be absolutely miserable to play against in PvP. You either wait 3 seconds doing nothing, or you waste an attack and major debuff yourself? This better be hard countered by direct AoE. Or just deleted now.

Once again the Sorcerer set is a flaming pile of garbage.

thats unfortunate as an increase in flame damage benefits dk more anyway

The sorc set seems to be more solo arena oriented, definetly the most boring out of the 7.
But at least it'll have a use, unlike the arc one. It's like they've ran out of imagination.

I think we should try to come up with cool 3-piece sets as a form of cope because we aren't getting anything good anytime soon.

My idea: Magma Shell becomes a transformation ultimate similar to Goliath but like those Fire Behemoths in Rockgrove. The effect could be increased range/radius on skills or something.
