In my experience it's actually Character based not Account based, and it changes daily. Each day you login your character is assigned a RNG seed for the loot tables. That seed may be good, bad, great, or hopeless. If you have several characters, you can improve your chances by finding one who's daily seed is favorable for what you're farming for.

I do this to farm furnishing plans, but it applies to anything you're looking to farm.

This is something that really needs to be investigated. With RNG, it’s normal to go through ebbs and flows of luck. But when someone is consistently lucky and someone else is consistently unlucky, the system is no longer truly random.

I also have consistently poor RNG luck, and it affects everything I do in game. Lead farming is a pain. Ink farming is a pain. Motifs and furnishing farming? Forget about it. It even affects things like Crown Crates. My old PlayStation account was much luckier than my PC account, especially when it came to apex mounts. I barely even bother with Crown Crates on my PC account anymore, because my luck is so abysmal and I just get junk every time.

If ESO uses static account IDs as part of the RNG calculation (something other games do as well), it could account for the consistent luck-based disparities we’re seeing. I asked Kevin in another ink thread if the team could confirm whether or not account IDs were used in RNG calculations, but did not receive any clarification on the matter.

I don't think we will ever get any clarification on how ESOs RNG works.

Who are you and why are you playing on my account with my husband? I jest, obviously, but we experience the same thing. I joke that he has horseshoes shoved *somewhere* because he has the best RNG and I have apparently offended the RNG Gods in this life, the previous life, and the next!

As others have said, the drop rate is very low. I have had two Ink drop from World Bosses and one from a boss chest in veteran Vateshran Hollows though.

I think best way to solve the Ink problem is Zos adding it to a daily where you are guaranteed Ink, dont have to be uber much but something players can do instead of hoping for good RNG.

I agree with this — especially given that ink drops/RNG appears to be bugged for some of us. It is simply unfair that some of us have no choice but to buy ink from overpriced guild vendors due to poor RNG (even after farming for ink on dedicated farm builds), while other players are swimming in ink after putting in the same amount of effort and engaging in the same activities.

this game needs a "failsafe" for drop%. Meaning if the drop% is 10%, the 10th attemp will drop for sure.

Actually, if you have 10 players, 1 player does 991 runs, 9 players do 1 run rech and the grp of 9 player get the loot and the single player not, that are still 1% dropchance, but 9 players are lucky and 1 is pretty unlucky.

In my case, i did ~30x graven deep bonus bosses, that are 90 chances to get the lead i wanted, while i have seen it droppng maybe 50+ times on different players, mostly on first attemp.

Personally I have found ink from one shielded mobs like trolls, one shielded quest bosses, and three shield world bosses. So I can confirm these sources.

The best way to get ink is just doing what you normally do, and ink will drop on occasion.

PS: Have over 90 ink, after using 6 already.

I still have... *checks achievement* 12 inks, in now 80-90 hours of play since Gold Road. All from the quest at the very start.

Inks still not dropping for some of us apparently, from bosses or resources.

Again, I repeat, really glad I wasn't excited for this system, but salty as hell I can barely engage with it without relying on buying overpriced ink from other players.

I've often wondered if in game RNG is weighted by Crate purchases.

Node farming luck comes and goes but in 10 years I have gotten exactly 2 full motif books and both of them are for the Imperial style. I originally bought the Imperial edition,,,,, I don't need them.

Also, I have crap luck when getting Master writs. I can't imagine how folks get these 600+ Master writs I see for sale that can be made with common motifs when all I ever get are ones for less than 10 that take a Motif that costs 100k per page to complete.

Those 600+ writ voucher writs are old jewelry writs from before the change to tempers.

got a total of 41 so far.

12 from quest line completed day 2 of release.

of the others, I only saw 4 drop - 1 each from 2 WB's, and harvested 2 from a Wood node. All the rest were a surprise.

I have less than half that after framing daily with a special build. If I followed your advice I'd have none.

This doesn't feel daily to me. I swear my account is set to the absolute lowest RNG possible. Case in point. I had been farming the remaining leads needed for my codex and was doing a rotation of 8 dungeons. Farmed the circuit for days with zero drops. A friend popped online and joined me because she needed the drops as well. We banged out 6 of the 8 dungeons before she called it a night and was able to get all 6 of the leads on the first try. I was happy for her, but it made me want to delete my account. RNG in ESO is the worst.

So far I've earned 70 inks, 5 from mobs, 65 from resource nodes, 0 from bosses despite farming the Bangkorai boss circle and killing maybe 100 bosses since the patch which was supposed to fix world boss drops, so it's either still broken or the RNG is horrific.

I was farming base game WB for easy event boxes, so far I have found around 3-5 inks off maybe 50-100 bosses ( I don't keep track). Mob farming is semi passive accumulation but harvesting is much better due to the passives giving double. Mat prices have tanked, but you still make a decent amount of gold or supplies for crafting/writs doing harvesting.

Once again, this needs to be investigated. There are way too many of us here lately who are reporting consistently poor RNG in all areas of the game. I asked @ZOS_Kevin recently if he could confirm whether or not static account / character IDs are used as part of the RNG calculation, and didn’t hear back. What we’re seeing in game — especially with regards to ink drops — has all the hallmark signs of a RNG bug. It’s reminding me a lot of the notorious Wi Flag RNG bug in Asheron’s Call. That game used static instance ID as part of the calculation, and a bug in the code meant that some characters were consistently targeted first by monsters, while others got targeted way less frequently. Some of us consistently have terrible luck with ink drops, lead drops, Crown Crate rolls, etc., while others seem to have an invisible horseshoe shoved up somewhere.
