Maintenance for the week of November 4:
• [COMPLETE] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – November 6, 9:00AM EST (14:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EST (23:00 UTC)

Can anyone enlighten me on what these are?

What are they and what do they do?

These are target markings used in groups. You can mark both enemy/friendly players and mobs using them which makes easier to coordinate your group attacks etc.

I am doing my best, but I am not a native speaker, sorry.

"Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game." - @AlexanderDeLarge

Been around for quite a few updates now and largely used by trial teams to mark the tanks and healers, and sometimes to mark a high-priority boss before starting combat.

If you ever accidentally put a symbol on someone else or yourself, you remove it the same way - target them (or yourself by looking at anything that isn't another person or combat pet), hold right on the d-pad, select that same symbol, and it will remove it.

If you're on PC, the OdySupportIcons addon can automatically and more consistently mark tanks and healers.

In the groups I've been in, the most common of the above has been that someone marks the priority target with the skull. That said, there's been no real convention and all symbols are used for anything and everything.

I'm not sure, but I think the game remembers how certain mob types were marked the last time you ran a trial. Whenever I'm in vSE, for example, the priority targets and the ones that the off tank must take away are often marked from the get go for me.

So, that is why some of the world bosses had symbols I hadn't seen before today.

I rarely group with anyone, but did so today for the box drops.

So, next time I am grouped with someone and see that, I will hopefully remember what they mean :P

We use them to make tanks and healers.

Too bad we can’t have tank and healer symbols instead of Lucky Charms shapes, lol.

They are a nuisance if you hit them by accident. You can unbind them in combat settings, TAB unbind.

I am unsure why, but despite it being entirely random, I find the tanks often always use the green circle and the orange triangle. And for some reason, even among multiple groups, they’re called the Pickle and the Dorito as if we’ve all accepted this is The One Truth. LOL

I’m always Dorito unless someone steals it away. XD

You’re right! We use the purple icon and the star for healers.

EDIT: do you have a name for the purple icon? Cause ZOS would probably remove it if they knew what our supports call it, lol.

Probably better to change the binding to some key on the far right dide of the keyboard that you're unlikely to hit by accident, because if someone else tags you then you'll want to be able to untag yourself.
