Can companions be an account wide unlock?

Hey, not sure if anyone feels the same way I do. But unlocking every companion on every character is quite tedious. Some of the intro quests are pretty long and as a result most of my characters have between 0 and 2 companions unlocked.
The only justifaction for these being character specific unlocks that i can come up with is a roleplay and lore reason. A valid reason for many. However, it is cannon that all of my characters know eachother and would have met eachothers' companions at some point.
So, I am proposing that the companion, once unlocked, be available to all characters. However in order to advance their companion quest line the intro quest must be complete on the character looking to advance their questline as rapport increases.
Now, i know what your thinking you that would mean you could have mirri out as a proper companion while doing mirri's intro quest resulting in two mirri's following you.
For folks that would bother, they could use a different companion or no companion. During ember and azandars into quest I have seen two appear at the same time. I for one wouldnt care as i would love to do those quests once.
Thank you

This, or variations on companions being account-wide, has been discussed in many threads. Some support it, some don't.

I'd like to have the option to skip the unlocking quests, like what they did with the Tales of Tribute tutorial, or to still do them for those that wish. Leveling them would still be account wide and rapport character specific as it is currently. I see no reason for any other restrictions.

    This.
My opinion - it's part of the wider character specific vs account-wide conversation ongoing amongst the ESO community.
Personally I don't see why we can't have both simultaneously, it will jut require ZOS to implement a way for players to be able to CHOOSE which direction they want to head in.

(i.e. some people prefer the immersive aspect of grinding things out for each char, others prefer the more "MMO" version of things to be unlocked for the account if completed on one char)

This is a very level-headed way of looking at it. Just give us choices, ZOS! As you say, some people enjoy the grind and believe this is the whole point of rolling an alt. Others (like me) look at alts as a means to an end and have zero interest in grinding the same old content over and over again just to access a particular system or skill points.

I seldom use companions. I only use Lyris Titanborn’s adoring fan when I’m soloing group dungeons or IA and need a tank to make things go faster. But the quest to unlock her is so, so tedious. I’d love the option to skip it after the initial completion.

Same thing with zone story quests that I would only EVER repeat on alts for the skill points. Just add a dialogue option.

Alt: “Yeah, so Mr. Quest Giver… I know Aurielle really well, and I believe she already did all this boring stuff for you. Recently, too.”

Mr. Quest Giver: “Gosh, you’re absolutely right, I completely forgot she already completed this quest the other day! I’ve got this extra skill point in my pocket I was going to give you, though, if you’d like it?”

    Alt: “Much obliged.”

I've only done them on my main character - can't be bothered on the rest. I don't understand why we have to repeat the tediousness of such "simple" quests.

I vote for this, it is so mind numbing and annoying and useless. I've done the quest no need to do it 20,000 more times.

I enjoy Sharp so much, I don’t mind doing his quests multiple times. I would hate to only be able to do once. One of my main unlocks every companion first for ease of gearing, etc. but different characters mainly quest with different companions, and I would hate not to be able to do the entire questline with that character.
