[FEATURE REQUEST] Choice of background image on character login screen

We all know opinions of the latest background image for the character login screen were mixed

, so it occurred to me that it would be nice if we could choose what image is used. My proposal is that ZOS add the various images to the game's files somewhere (like they've already done with the randomised character logout screens, so there's a precedent for this). Then we have account options added to set the character login screen's background image to any of

the currently-selected character's current location;
a random image from a list of the previous character login screen backgrounds; or
the game's default (i.e. right now, that would be the Gold Road image).

What say you all?

Like but my guess is they and especially their marketing people already have a firm view in the negative on this one.

They will always want people to buy the latest expansion / chapter and both from my own experience and seeing others, my guess is that many don't.

The base game is regularly on sale for bargain basement prices and incredible value for what it is.

Many things after that are a mixed bag but both in the base game and expansions there is an enormous amount of content.

I've been on and off since launch but up until a bit over a month ago, the last thing I bought was Greymoor, and I had only played the tutorial. Playing through Greymoor and Markarth just to get myself the nice green dye took a LONG time.

I still haven't found time to play Craglorn apart from like the intro quest or two. I've played Necrom now and am trying to catch up before Gold Road which I've already bought because scribing, yes please. But levelling new arcanists (I've been away a while), doing events, levelling crafting, legedermain, psijic, scrying etc. etc. all takes time.

As for other players, I still see many players like I was until recently, without companions. They're definitely useful so it's more likely they haven't bought that chapter or aren't subscribed.

But I do think it's a good idea and it's probably been suggested before.

Part of the appeal of the single player TES games is the high degree of customizability courtesy of modding. This would in a small way lean in that direction.

ESO's take on mods seems to be make the game stupidly annoying in some fashion and force players to use mods to make it less irritating. That's not a winner to my eye.

I’m happy with the yearly background screen. I wouldn’t object to customizable, but I’m happy with being able to order my characters and that the current location of each is listed with their name. Most of my time is spent in game — that is where I want to be able to customize more!

Yes, marketing will always push having the latest content be the most visible. But this can backfire, as can be seen with the pushback by a large number of players on the overly contrasted and color saturated Gold Road character select screen.

Personally, I'd love to have more choices. Then everyone can log in happy.

While Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons, I do not like the colors on the current character select screen's background, because all of the colors just seem to blend together. That's not what Spring or Fall looks like, at least not where I live.

How about if we've already purchased all Chapters and DLC, then let us choose the character select screen's background from the content that we've purchased? They don't need to market to me because I already bought it all. Also I don't share any of my gameplay, and there isn't anyone else in my household to market to. So I don't need the marketing, it's just a wasted effort.

I haven't seen any zone content from Gold Road because I like for it to be a surprise. But I am expecting the zone colors to be a big eyesore, just like the current character select screen's background. And I am already planning on getting some glasses with colored lenses, just so I don't have to see the ugly oranges...

It is possible to choose custom sound based on chapter. Custom background would be welcome too.

Personally I could not stand the Necrom background with that pizza looking shroom in the corner

Thankfully , the Gold road background is amazing.

Not here, either. Here, autumn trees can be quite colorful, but still, the colors aren't that loud. Also, the light tends to be less strong and on many days, it's foggy anyway. I've been wondering if it's a local thing, maybe there are places in the USA where it looks like that?

Really depends on lighting/time of day/weather in-game. When I saw it on PTS, I found it awful, and when it later looked different on Live, I was relieved because I thought they had fixed it. Just that they haven't. Sometimes it still looks like that. I could post a landscape screenshot, if you like, but I don't want to spoil the surprise.

I don't mind this current iteration (though a bit less bright/saturated would be better), but yes, there have been some in the past that I wasn't happy about.

So as with the choice of login screen music, I do think it would be nice to have a choice of background. Of course, it's not too big an issue, as I don't spend a lot of time on the login screen....

I'd be happy with this change- I actually love the current log-in screen. I live on the East Coast in the US, and the log in screen reminds me of a perfect October day here in New England. I specifically bought the piece of land I own because the maple and oak forest on the property absolutely explode with color in Autumn. On a misty day, it looks a lot like Gold Road. We get some really eye searing reds, oranges, and yellows here.

I'd like to set this log in screen to be permanent on my game- so you get my vote for being able to set the screen to my current location since I'm permanently parking in Skingrad!
