Why are you passionate about necro?

We have all this new content. We have alts we could play. So why do we continue to care about necro being fixed?

For me I’ve always loved the DOT focus of necro. I think the basic premise of the class is really fun, and it clicks with me.
I find class diversity more fun than this boring archanist monoculture we have atm. I should be allowed to enjoy archanist the way I want to play it (as a tank) not forced into it. If archanist is what you want to play, wonderful. But let there be viable alternatives for everyone else.
After being the one person willing to play necro in my raid group I’ve become good on necro. Taking on the challenge of the necro was, at that time, quite rewarding for the group and for me. Watching those rewards being chipped away from necro over time has been highly disappointing.
I’m attached to the character I’ve done some of the hardest content I’ve achieved to date. And I want to continue playing content with her.
But mostly it’s because I want to continue to enjoy the game long term. For the grind that is trial HM I need a rich enough combat experience that I stay engaged. A rich combat system has kept me playing eso for years. Kept me getting the new content. Necro is the class I find most engaging. I want it still around and relevant to the end game meta so I stay engaged.

What’s your reason? Why do you care about necro?

Because I used to love my Necromancer, but now she is my weakest character and I don't do anything but writs with her. I will do the new chapter because she has completed all the previous zones, but no group content etc..

It would be nice if she could be more useful again.

necromancer is OK, i personally was hugely disappointed with how it was implemented from the beginning (i was expecting more semi permanent pet summons like sorc, or more of a pet class)

i could get behind necro being a dot class, but the class has no freaking dots to take advantage of that, it honestly severely lacks a lot of dmg in general

based on what the devs said, they wanted necromancer to be a debuff class, but it doesnt even do that well (sure it did originally as it was the only source of major vuln, but this is no longer the case and in general necro just doesnt have a lot of debuffs)

most of the debuffs the necro does can be sourced from other things, if its supposed to be a debuff class, give it actual unique debuffs, not named minor/major debuffs that most other classes can also supply

It's the only other "negative" class besides nightblade. I mean....raising the dead is oogy. All the other classes seem more "positive" or at least "neutral".

I've played necro in any game where it's an option just because a minion build was a lot of fun. Sadly, the temporariness of ESO's necro just doesn't come close to what I think a necro should be :(

All of the other classes are either boring or unviable to me:
    • Dragonknight, Arcanist, Sorcerer, and Templar are too boring. They all play the same way, which is "lay down your DOTs and spam your spammable". That's just not engaging enough. "Templar has an execute though, it's totally different". No, that just means that your spammable becomes Beam instead of Jabs after a certain point. It's still a "lay down DOTs and spam spammable" class. "Sorcerer has pets though. That's totally different". No, they function exactly the same as other 20 second DOTs. The fact that they're permanent doesn't matter since you're using their special effects on cooldown, which coincidentally last 20 seconds. The same as other DOT skills.
    • Warden has an identity problem which I don't like. When playing Warden I want to either be a druid using only animals, or an ice mage only using frost magic. They way ZOS made Warden is they want you to mix and match otherwise you're gimping yourself massively. I hate that. If I play it as a druid then I'm not taking advantage of Glacial Presence, potentially Piercing Cold, and the massive Chill chance Winter's Revenge and Arctic Blast have. If I play it as an ice mage then I'm not taking advantage of Advanced Species, the Bear Ult, and the good bleed chance I get with some of the other Animal Companions skills
    • Nightblade is even worse at DPS in PVE than Necro. I don't PVP so it being meta there doesn't matter. So Nightblade is just obsolete. Not to mention the ugly red permaglow.

So Necro is just the only class choice left really.

On a side note, I love how Necro was designed as the debuff class yet it doesn't bring any unique or at the very least, hard to obtain debuffs. Meanwhile, Warden and Arcanist can proc Minor Brittle on cooldown and Dragonknight has Engulfing Flames.

I have always had a things for necromancers all the way back to Elder-scrolls Morrowind. Which continued into Oblivion, and became even more so with Skyrim. When I started ESO, I came in thinking that Necromancy was possible but quickly found that there wasn’t such a class. So I created a pet sorcerer to compensate.

Once the class was added, I was extremely excited about the prospect of maining a necromancer until I saw the skill tree. Main disappointment for me was no dot damage and no permanent pets and a limited type of undead summons.

But despite this, the necromancer theme just draws me in. Created a tank and healer and got really good at it. Not vet-trials good, but “vet dlc dungeon” good.

Necro is hands-down the most fun for tanking, or at least the way I'm set up. Huge pulls, bringing all the trash to the boss, then stand inside of Unnerving Boneyard and Agony Totem AoEs, Colossus smash, then hoover up the souls with Necrotic Potency.

Something about a Necro Tank standing in a pile of corpses just feels right.

So Necro is just the only class choice left really.

I did exactly the same rundown. I like to run the occasional content on other characters. Necro, nb and warden I enjoy the most. Necro ended up being the one I wanted to stick with long term.

Any game that gives me the option to play a Necromancer I play a Necromancer I just love the dark aesthetic of it. Before the class came out I didn't really have a main I just bounced between dk, sorc, and templar, but after the class released all content was all done on my Necro. When the gradual chipping away of everything that made the class work over each subsequent patch came and it became increasingly frustrating to play I didn't jump back over to dk, sorc, or templar like I used to. My attention just shifted to other games and I stopped supporting the game financially in my household. If the game felt bad on the character I'm attached to I couldn't enjoy it especially if characters that were under geared and didn't have the investment my Necro did performed better.

Elder Scrolls has my favorite lore and world of any fantasy game (which is probably the reason I keep coming back to this game) so it's quite disappointing that eso currently has the worst player version of a necromancer I've seen. It doesn't even match with their stated vision of DoTs and debuffs. So the two things necromancers are known for, minions and curses are both done better by other classes in the game which is something they should be ashamed of. I've ran modded Skyrim into the ground and my age will have more than doubled from Skyrim's release to TES6 so this is the only ongoing link to that world I have and while my principles prohibit me from financially supporting something that doesn't meet my expectations (until I feel the class gets the care and attention other classes do) I'm still going to keep dropping my free 2 cents until they get their act together especially since this is the first chapter in years that actually interests me.

I don't want the class to be the best or OP where everyone swaps over from the FOTM, but it should be competitive, have a coherent identity, and well rounded class kit like the other classes. Currently it has none of these.

I'm so far from the word "passionate". I've tried twice now to play a Necro, once at Elsweyr launch, she didn't survive long after leaving the tutorial area. Left it alone for years then recently tried making another one cause it's the only Class I don't have a character of. Thing is, I hate Necromancy. I don't like playing with corpses, raising the dead etc. Basically all that leaves me with is the Scythe ability, and that alone isn't keeping me interested. I got to I think Level 14ish before I benched it again. I just do not like it.

I've had somewhat the same kind of problem with the Arcanist. I REFUSE to use Abyssal Impact, because of the tentacles, even though it's the Class' main DPS spammable in all builds.

I appear to have a serious problem when ZOS makes a Class based on a specific Theme.
