Endless Archive mini games

Most of the mini games are really fun to play. I absolutely enjoy them.

It seems however that certain mini games that are time critical (like the ghost fragment collection mini game and the path puzzle one) don't make a huge difference if it is a solo player or a duo player. Both mini games are CONSIDERABLY easier as a duo and the probability to fail due to time limitation is much higher for solo player. It says nothing about the skill. Both have a random part in it (like where the ghost fragments are, sometimes one or two are closer to the center making it easier to fetch. I just had the case where I wanted to carry two fragmets at the same time but they simply refused to log on to me; or the path puzzle makes it more difficult to press the last button and run)

the path puzzle is easier solo at the later difficulties than duo. Find the first two buttons you need to press in the correct order, then press the other ones as efficiently as possible then run across. Even in heavy armour this works. This doesn't work for duos, the floor panels reset quicker

For the longest time I was stuck (solo) on the second to last ghost puzzle. I was thinking the last difficulty HAS to be literally impossible solo, despite people saying they could do it.

I finally beat the second to last ghost level, and the last level ended up being significantly easier than the second to last. I have never failed the last one solo.

I hate the mini games because they are explained nowhere. Without googling I would have had no idea what to do or how to approach those things. While they certainly can be fun, it‘s totally ignorant to not offer players an explanation of what’s going on or what to do.

    Easier solo:
Crossing the moat corridor [more time and don’t have to rely on partner going correct way or pulling in order]

    Easier duo:
Goats [double sweet roll drops, can rez each other, can help kill partner’s butcher]
Duel [more dps/buffs/debuffs, can rez each other, easier to take care of adds]

    Tied:
Ghost lights [more time solo and can confuse ghost lights in duo]
Watcher transformation [more tombshells in duo but can rez each other and spread out]

It is an arena that is meant to be run a ton of times over. You are supposed to learn how to do these encounters through trial and error. Which is great. No need for hand holding.

Explaining the basic mechanics certainly is not hand holding. You’re not getting thrown into Tales of Tribute without an extensive tutorial. At the mini game where you have to collect the lights I had no light in the first round at all and it was over before it began and I had basically no clue what’s going on.

the ghost lights one is pretty easy to do solo or duo, they are effectively the same (at level 5, the duo version has 1 extra ghost light to collect compared to the solo version)

the switch puzzle i find too annoying to bother with solo, but in a duo its incredibly easy

ive made the switch puzzle easier by just making a list of all the combinations, so it takes less time to figure it out, and then just type the order in the chat for whoever wants to press the buttons, then when the runner is ready the presser just has to hit them as quick as they can in the specified order
    plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

I have trouble with the ghost lights because if you move too fast they won’t stay with you.

The goat puzzle doesn’t give me trouble.

The watcher is bad because you suddenly have a new skill bar and have no time to look at those little icons and figure it out. Yeah I know people have posted what they are here, does not help.

Stuck on the duel one, even if I target the crystals I can’t win. I’m solo though.

Since the switch only gives me one try now I can’t complete it solo. Those switches are so finicky about actually showing you what area they deactivate most of the time too.

I’m bummed that I can’t finish the leads for the zone, all I get are Torc leads now since the puzzles are a fail.

Looking at you sig, I feel your pain on the corridor.

I've been playing a cozy farming sim on PC with Cross-platform with the switch in my "waiting for Gold Road" downtime and the difference in controls between KBM and Controller is wild. I figured I could switch between PC and console easily. but was I ever wrong. On KBM adjusting my view to get the right target to pop up is quick and simple, but with a controller sometimes I take three or more tries to get the right target. I can't imagine how hard it must be to get precision in for some of these things on controller.

The annoying part about the watcher one is that you can stand still and read the skills the first time you do it, but not in higher difficulties once the zombies start spawning. Since it's not a timed challenge, it would be nice if there was a safezone at the start.

For ghost lights, walk backwards with your weapon unsheathed. It is almost the perfect speed. Collect three lights at a time before going to center.

For the duel, you need to stay close to the boss to interrupt, and kill the crystals when they activate from range. I usually save my ult for the first crystal and drop it on the crystal once it activates. Then save ult for the second crystal and dump it there. Then just ignore the adds and focus on the boss. Strafe around him to keep the adds moving and not constantly being in their attacks.

For the switches, switch to first person view. In first person, they function properly from a visual standpoint, and you can very quickly determine the correct order to hit them in. Stay in first person until AFTER you have hit every switch.

Watcher is unfortunately a ton of RNG. One wrong turn and you deadend yourself and die. Just a lot of trial and error to get a good run.

I had the ghostlights down, but then it started happening that one randomly goes back to its spawn point without me noticing, always one. So I stopped bothering with ghostlights when soloing the Archive. :/

The crossing and butcher challenges I always do, and even the tomeshell one, although I’m often unlucky, I still like to try it.

The only one I've gotten so far is the one where you have to herd the lights. Is it enough to just touch them, or do you have to follow them back?

You get close enough where they "attach" to you and you walk them back to the middle. Move too fast and they'll unattach and leash back to position.

I've never done the Watcher portal since completing the corresponding achievement. Really dislike this one.

Goat is simple but it always removes the Steed mundus that I use for the IA build. So, I always have to port to a house and use the armory to restore it. Filed a bug report but they never fixed it. I do the Goat every time, but it sours the mood every time.

Corridor: I struggled for a long time with using the pillars to figure out which part of the floor they control (they were very unresponsive). Now, I move parallel to the walls of the corridor toward pillar #1 to highlight the floor section. Then, back out (in a straight line), to the right a bit, and again move parallel to the walls to pillar #2. And so on. Works every time.

Some things might be easier but I have been using a controller for so long I am more comfortable with it. Haven’t used a keyboard to play video games since I had a Commodore 64.

With the crossing, I slot Ring of the Wild Hunt, Celerity in the red tree - Steeds Blessing the in Green tree is always slotted for me btw- and always make sure I press the switch for the furthest blob last - then I drop a Rouges speed pot and this works every time.

The butcher is easy enough keep away from if you watch your stam bar and empty it with running when it fills. I haven't been caught once.

With the Ghost lights - I slot Ring of the Wild Hunt, Celerity in the red tree and a speed pot. They are spread in two groups of three - so I watch where they go to an do them three at a time - works well for me. The fifth level was a PITA solo though, ngl. So happy when I beat that.

I thought the goats/sweetroll was the only one.

And NO, not having a clue what to do is not interesting gameplay at all. Fortunately I haven't hit the others nor tried them at all since, but hitting one I had no idea what I was doing would not be enjoyable gameplay, but rather very frustrating.
