9 times out of 10, rain ruins houses

Builders are not able to reliably show their homes to visitors the way they were intended to be presented because of constant rain, sandstorm, and lightning effects. Oftentimes, it may as well be crap and farts instead of rain and thunder.

I used to host multiple housing contests each month with live tours and screenshots for social media, but the unpredictable weather effects mostly pushed me away from this since "waiting out the storm" made everything 10x more maddening.

I strongly recommend a toggle for weather effects or a more comprehensive weather control system with multiple options. There are lots of good ways to implement this, and it's long overdue.

I'd like to be able to turn off weather also. I started a build at Twin Arches to enclose one side and make more house, however the sand blows through the walls and ruins it completely.

I'd love to see a toggle for this, or even an item similar to the hourglass that would give us complete control over the weather.

It seems to be raining in most zones more often than not. Even in Northern Elsweyr, which is a desert.

If we can’t have weather control for houses could you at least turn it down in the game? It would surely help performance issues.

Seems I recall that weather is entirely client side, so I never understood why they could not have a toggle, slider, or setting for it. If it is client side, whatever weather someone chooses would just be for them, and people could have different weather. People probably have different weather, already.

If we can control the lighting in houses there is no reason we shouldn't be able to control the weather. Or give building materials a weather collision field.

My first thought on this topic was: addons. Unfortunately, after a quick internet search, I found that @Baertram confirmed in an ESOUI forum thread that addons can't control the weather. :( It's a pity, I would have loved to write my own addon to make some randomised weather.

This^^ It is so annoying to build a structure from scratch AND then find the structural items used are NOT weatherproof..... com'on @ZoS ...... Structural Furnishings by their very name should NOT allow weather such as rain and snow through!!

Also agree with op, weather control, ideally similar to the time control Hour Glass/Chronometer needs to be added asap!

Indeed, weather control is my favourite topic! What actually bugs me is that some houses miss certain kinds of weather entirely, e.g. it never rains in Hundings and it never shines in the Coven Cottage. This makes houses much less versatile for "complete transformation" kind of builds.

But the flipside is, as you say, that in most houses the weather changes and some players might like it to stay the same, for instance always sunny. And the non-rainproof rooms are of course unintentionally humorous too, heh.

    +1 for weather control.

This is also my observation and the reason I suspect being behind why we got time of day control some time ago already, and still no weather control. It might require some extensive rewrites to make it work :( but I hope that if we at least keep talking about the topic, one day someone from ZOS will respond and tell us if we can have it, and if not, why not!

And I'd actually be pretty happy with "just me" kind of weather control too, to be honest, even if it would be extra nice to finetune the weather for my visitors as well.

I would suggest that videos and SS of homes are not the focal point or a reason for Zenimax to make such a change, as it is not anywhere near one of the main uses of homes.

Yet they gave us time control, arguably the main use for that is to present our home's in the light "mode" we wish visitor's to view it in and to improve the looks of screenshots and videos.....

Weather control is just the next step.

It's mostly about ruining the in-the-moment shareable experience for visitors, which *should* be the most important point of houses treating ESO as being not just a solo endeavor. Everything else is just a big marketing miss.

Even as a solo thing, the rain and the uncertainty of it makes ESO a drearier and less appealing place.

Unless I am misunderstanding you, I would suggest otherwise, given the prominent pinned threads asking people to show their houses and showing off community houses.

What? It's a very primary purpose. It is the main thing ZOS asks about in threads, as already pointed by another user. And they give you achievements for having visitors. That same achievement was the one used to give away a house guest recently. And the main reason we don't have guild home yet is because ZOS wants to wait for the tech to be able to share with even more people than the current limits allow.

There have also been multiple improvements to sharing made by the developers such as being able to turn off the housing interface in settings. Videos and SS are just a way to share with people not there at the moment. But houses are meant to be shared.

Thank you JHart! I'm really glad to see this post by someone who's been in the Housing community so long. Really hope it's in the works...

I've asked for it everywhere possible too – on the forums, in game feedback, even PTS!

It's a building and health problem also: it rains SO often in some areas, making it hard to see, causing such bad eye strain when building. Lightning makes it even worse!

And a waste of time: tonight I was just trying to get a screenshot and couldn't for over an hour; the image required sunny lighting. And before that, trying to position objects in a back-lit scene where the whole effect relies on sunlight. :s

Yeah this realy annoyes me whenever I want to make screenshots and the game just says "NO! NOT NOW!" And it takes like forever to clear up and give me some sunshine or whatever I need.

Not housing related, but I ran into that problem trying to do virtual photography in High Isle. I dunno why there is so much love of rain. It must rain there at least 10 days out of every 7. I'm surprised the place hasn't eroded and washed away.

I began to wonder if I could stop the rain by turning down my graphics settings to Low, hoping that some algorithm would turn off the rain. That rather defeats the purpose of virtual photography. :disappointed:

I am all in favor of a setting, not a furniture item, that would allow us to set weather preferences across the entire game.

I don't think i've ever experienced any weather in any of my houses. Maybe it depends on the location.

Try the Enchanted Snow Globe, it snows there fairly frequently and if you build any extra structures, using structural furnishings, you will likely experience "Indoor snow".

It happens with weather in many other houses too, so annoying!!
