I took a break. So I came back, did the Prologue Quest, Leramil says she'll send for me, and ... nothing?

How exactly am I supposed to know how to get to her in the new area?

Also, I know this isn't the first time this has happened to me. It feels like with every new major release, there's a Prologue Quest, but then no-one bothers to put a Quest-giver in a major city to get you to the MSQ for the new zone. Consider this a past and future bug report - always put a quest giver to get you to the next major destination!

I can’t remember exactly, but I think that when the new chapter comes out, if you travel to the only wayshrine you can go to in the new zone, there is a questgiver right there.

the zone story quests are pretty easy to find in chapter zones.
Leramil is outside and inside the city of Necrom.

in the new Gold Road chapter it's even easier as she is at every zone gate, every skingrad gate, and in the middle of Skingrad

That's kind of the way it works with Chapter and DLC quests. Once you have completed the Prologue Quest (which is set exclusively in base-game or free zones), you have to actually travel to the zone in question to pick up the quest again.

This is because it is possible to do the Prologue Quest when you don't *have* the Chapter or DLC - as an incentive to get the Chapter or DLC in question. A quest does not automatically start to send you FROM the base game zones TO the zone of the DLC.

There are a couple of exceptions.

    (1) DB and Thieves guild are not really proper Prologue Quests. Quen and Amelie Crowe appear in base-game zones: but Quen sends you straight to the Fulstrom Homestead heist, and from there on to Hew's Bane directly, while Amelie Crowe orders you to go and commit a murder in Anvil, on the Gold Coast.

    (2) Stuga sends you straight to Orsinium, via Ambassador Lashgara's cart (which deposits you straight away at the gate that you would have reached, had you travelled north from Bangkorai on foot).

    (3) Clockwork City's Prologue Quest "Knives and Long Shadows" is the only Prologue Quest that *directly* segues into the next quest that actually takes you from the base game into Clockwork City: meeting Divayth Fyr in Mournhold, travelling through the tunnels and actually coming out in Clockwork City proper. It's also the only Prologue Quest that is NOT available as a free purchase in the Crown Store: instead, it ONLY starts by reading the relevant documents in various Mages Guilds (and, assumably, won't start if you don't have access to the DLC: like the Thieves, DB and Orsinium.)

    (4) Incidentally, Craglorn was not originally in the base game, but was released later, as a first DLC which later became a permanent and free part of the base game: and again, Craglorn's starter quest takes you *from* the base game zones *to* the new zone. Even though Craglorn is now fully integrated in the base game.

The fact that, at the end of the Orsinium quest line, the ghost of Varen (from the base game, confirming him as the canonically sacrificed character even though you may have done an "alternate timeline" sacrifice of Lyris or Sai) appears and says that more trouble will occur "when the gates of Sotha Sil's Clockwork City stand open"... suggests that, in fact, Clockwork City rather than Morrowind was intended as the next DLC after Orsinium - and the fact that Clockwork City opens up like Orsinium (and the early DLCs - Craglorn, Thieves, DB) with a starter quest that takes you FROM the base game TO the new zone, suggests that there was a later change in design philosophy, and that this change happened *after* the design of Clockwork (but before its release) and *before* the design and release of Morrowind (which was released first, before Clockwork.)

Which in turn suggests that, in fact, Clockwork was designed and completed earlier than Morrowind, and then delayed to be released *after* Morrowind and One-Tamriel... and the Morrowind storyline was "retroactively" written as a way to actually justify opening Clockwork City up so that it could become vulnerable to Daedric attack... because every DLC or Chapter from Morrowind onwards has had a *separate* Prologue Quest set in base-game zones: required you to travel to the Chapter zone (whether overland, by road, boat or carriage, or to the wayshrine), or start the Chapter manually from the in-game menu: and does not directly segue onwards from its prologue quest.

Is it possible to pick up the Necrom quest from Collections? I never do it that way but I think that is an option for at least some quests.

EDIT: or is it the Crown store?

You can definitely start the Clockwork City prologue quest without owning the DLC. At least, you could back in 2017 when I first started playing ESO.

Wait really, it's in Collections? I thought I'd double checked that. I still think that it would make more sense to have the "I'll send for you" to actually mean something. I know it's easy once you go to the zone to find it, I just find it a jarring experience, especially when playing "catch up".
