Do mobs cheat sometimes?

I think sometimes Ill get an end of quest type boss mob down to like 5% and my hits stop hitting him for a while. It really seems like my attacks just start all missing. He sits at 5% and taking the life off me until I get down to close to the end of me and then finally my hits connect and finish him. It makes me suspect there is a mechanic that extends the fight to add drama so it doesnt seem too easy. Do they do that or does he just have some skill that makes him harder to hit? And if its just a skill is there a counter?

I'd recommend checking your latency, might be an issue with "hits stop hitting".

The fights might be scripted so he can talk for a while.

Ah right you'd also need to look up the health bar, in default UI if the enemy is immune it gets greyed out, might be a quest related "mechanic".

Yesterday I had frequent issues with delayed damage, especially when it was supposed to kill a mob. I put power of the light on over ten different critters who proceeded to walk around with the beam on them for several seconds. It was kind of funny but also frustrating. (The attack kills them immediately in normal circumstances, but I had to cast it again or use a light attack to actually kill them when this happened.)

Mobs would often stop responding when they should have died, and a few seconds later they’d keel over.

Throughout this my ping stayed the same according to the meter in game. It’s possible it was fluctuating too quickly for the meter to register it properly. But there was definitely something going on with delayed responses.

Generally I also tend to see more of this type of stuff during events.

Watch your resources because if you have no Stamina/Magicka your skills will not activate also the server can rubberband on you making it difficult. Rubberband means that the server is doing stuff that you don`t see because of latency and then you get hit 3-5 times(just a random number) all at once.

My favorite, is when they fall dead from a range attack, but the body slides along the ground to you, stands up, hits you once, and then drops again.....

I think it also has to do with the way the computer sees attacks --- same as some attacks go right through a block, and hit you with an effect, anyways --- the system already did the calculation, but the graphics are playing catch up.

There is a thing which I think is standard in all online games where the client and server are both separately doing their own thing tracking player movement, combat etc. which in theory should match up but don't always because players sometimes do the opposite to what the software predicts and that can cause little hiccup catchups.

Because if you had to wait for not only your but other players' inputs to travel to the server, be processed and returned to you / other players, it would slow the game down a lot.

What you're seeing could be something to do with that.
