My thoughts on Veteran Ranks

As it is now, there's not really an endgame, nor is there any in sight because of the veteran ranks, which will (probably) be raised every time there's a new adventure zone. Doing this will make it so that the last adventure zone becomes useless to someone who has reached the VR requirement for that zone, and by that, all the content that will ever be developed will just be more levelling content instead of endgame.

Not that there's anything wrong with good levelling content, but I think having more good ACTUAL endgame content is important. Where you can really polish your gear instead of getting new gear.... forever... We're pretending there's an endgame by calling it Veteran Rank, but it's just more levelling. I call it; pretENDGAME (see what I did there?)

The Veteran Ranks are something that I think should be purely cosmetic or prestigious if you will. If this was the case, then we could keep the gear we worked so hard for on level 50 and actually have some use for it. Losing all my gear every time new content comes out is going to be pretty depressing I think.

But this is all just what I think of it, I'd like to see other opinions ^^

I disagree. I like feeling progress. As long as when new content is released it isn't all of a sudden your old equip sucks, and you have to get an all new set. But if the VR increases are 2-3 months apart i would look forward to getting some new eq again.

They can actually easily get around this issue if they make the gear that drops in Craglorn+ not have a VR requirement to it (just level 50). That puts 50 as the 'cap' and makes the VR quest content "new game+" which is how I always interpreted it.

In other MMOs you go through raids, get new gear, and within 3 months they come with a new raid, ups the anti a bit and you go through the same cycle of getting new gear. The game then is more about how flashy you are and not how useful you are.

I think it's good that the focus is on content, exploring and cooperation rather than who has the most ridiculous flash sword out there and sparkly armour. I rather have a use for the gear than standing around in a major city, hoping for praise and adoration.

Having to gear and change gear is an essence in any MMO, in the sense of progression. In ESO you actually have to put that gear to use as well. I like that approach, and I really look forward to Craglorn. It's a very interesting concept.

Dunno but generally people complain about gear grind at 'endgame'. But it's also true people complain if there isn't a gear grind (GW2) so really there is no way to win...

I seen many people complain about VR rewards being level 50 and I thought that was a bug in the loot table, but now not so sure anymore

That would be way cool too.

I'm not in VR myself, but isn't the crafted gear VR restricted? That's probably where the issue starts, if some gear is limited to VR and makes you stronger.

I have no issues with VR itself, the only thing that bugs me is I have to play in other factions zones that I really don't give 2 *** about experiencing so it makes it extremely tedious.

I hit VR1 on my first character (DK) 2 weeks ago, after 30 mins of playing I was so bored I created another DK and started the EP story over again. So far I have only logged into VR1 to check mail and sometimes check for motifs.

Once my new DK hits VR1 I really don't know what I will do. I know that having to play the other alliances zones will never be changed, but I hope they can add some zones as an alternative to them.

More reason why VR should be purely prestigious, that way you don't HAVE to do the so called endgame quests in other faction zones if you don't want to. Now, if you don't do the content, you miss out on potentially great adventure zones and extra dungeons.

Next update will raise VR level to 12, later will increase it, this is ZOS way of doing endgame, WOW uses gear level grind.

The only issue is that it should be more viable ways to level VR1 to 10, PvE with an focus on dungeons, PvP hopefully rewarding small fights better currently it works in large groups in large fights.
I love the quests and has no hurry but not all want to quest all the time.
As we get more endgame content its not an major reason to slow down people from VR1-10,
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I agree with the OP. We should be able to just cool our boots for a while when we reach the level cap. Get somewhere stable, tweak our build/gear to maximize effectiveness. Run the end game dungeons and PvP with our preferred setup. Change up our play style when we get bored.

I'm mostly just curious as to why you started another DK if that was the first class you played to VR..

I'm in the same situation now except I've been enjoying running around Glenumbra personally. My biggest beef with the VR zones right now is the Provisioning drop glitch which I've already brought up in another thread.

There will always be a VR grind and it's gonna turn new players off to think that they have to grind out 12+ ranks just to catch up to others. I've said it before and I don't like it but VR will kill this game because you need new players to keep subscribing. I hope they have some new ideas planned but I'm not holding my breath.

VR´s are still much better than what wow has with pure raid content and instant max level.
I never understood why new players should be driven off by actually having to play the game, Blizzard explained the destruction of low level content like you did and it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Not everyone enters an MMO and thinks he must instantly have the top level of an older player. If I get to a new MMO I start at 0 and move up, why do so many people need to start at the Destination and not the Origin?

MMO´s are about walking a path and not about seeing the end of it.

VR´s are a great approach you actually can learn new things past max level, you can explore new worlds and do new quest´s. This is a wonderful idea and comes much closer to the original MMO content before it was all about raids.

Players gear up, new content is released, players regear up. This is how all MMO games work... I can't think of any MMORPG without a ever growing gear progression.

Well, you can add new skills and new skills lines. It is about progression, not necessary about gear progression. You can also add possible ownership of land (for a group of players, as example) and craft can be about buildings (which can be destroyed if visible from anyone, or not, PvP or, why not, PvE), not just personal gear. After all, it does not have to look like WoW.
