I'm not the best player, not top there, mainly solo, but when I do run trials I was able to consistently crank out 100k+ DPS on my non-perfected geared Warden. Update 39 kind of messed that all up and I was NOT a fan of that update. After playing it for a bout a month, grinding out new gear sets, my Warden just never felt the same. SO I took a LONG break.
After my long break, doing a new play through or a heavily modded Skyrim, and burnout on Baldur's Gate 3, I found myself missing ESO. I do love this game. So I came back, fired up the game on my brand new PC (game looks great still!) and started to play again. After doing some research on new builds, farm some gear for DPS dungeon, trial play and some solo gear, I am still disappointed at how underwhelming the Warden is. Sure, other classes rock, and I have fun playing those, but the two classes that I just really want to play are kind of meh.
Why have the devs really never given the Necro and Warden some real love? I feel like they never had their day ion the sun really. The Necro always a tad clunky, awkward rotation, etc. But at least it's good. The warden? Sadness.
OR. Am I missing something? Everyone seems to rank yje warden in the Cs when it comes to anything. I don't PvP much. Don't really want to. But I am determined to make my warden great! How can I improve it? Or is it up to the devs to help... which I hope not, I feel like they treat the Warden as an after thought, or a troublesome bother. Is it the Warden's destiny to be the dev's red headed step child?

IMO necromancers completely rocked at launch, but one recent change in particular - to blast bones - has gutted it for mag players.
I share your view of wanting to love wardens but finding what they've given us very boring, but I've been paying attention to changes and they are definitely trying to fix them.
They're stuck with the quintessential problem in any online game when something should be changed.
Some players actually like it as is. They're very capable in PvP at least. Players who don't love it have probably mostly left. The developers can't just say "Oops, let's have a do-over," because then they lose those who love it and aren't guaranteed to come back and give it another try anyway.
They have to set their sights on a new design and slowly transition their way towards it.
A recent dev note in the PTS patch notes confirmed that they are moving towards a redesign of the class - specifically moving damage primarily into the beast line. I would hope they're doing more but it's a good sign.
Warden is all chill and bear currently.
Unfortunately neither of those are good when you need to burst - the bear ult costing 75 needs a better, more powerful option that also helps aoe damage.
If only they could tack northern storm onto the bear ult instead of the 75 activation.

Every class has multiple types of damage.
DK is actually fire, poison, and physical.
Sorc is lightning, magic, and physical.
Warden is ice, magic, and bleed.
NB is magic, disease, and physical.
etc.
How about arcanist and necromancer and templar

Arcanist is an exception because the class isn’t really known for it’s damage outside of Fatecarver and Cephiliarch’s Flail. It mostly deals Magic damage with Flail doing Physical damage.
Necromancer does Frost and Disease damage mainly, but can also put out Flame and Shock damage, making Elemental Catalyst a very viable set on the class.
Templar deals Magic and Flame damage.

They should complete make it as full ice

I play warden for the animal companions and nature theme I cannot stand the ice skills they are all ugly. There are a lot of people who don’t like it being pigeon holed into a generic ice mage.
You claimed before the update that hurt your build, you were consistently doing 100k+ DPS, which is bragging-in-the-face-of-everyone worthy numbers. What did your DPS fall to? Even if it fell to 90k or even 80k, that's STILL amazing numbers and good enough to complete all content available, so I don't see the major issue there.
My full theme Ice Mage Warden probably does a third of your DPS and I've learned to live with it, but if you really want to know what the META is just go into Cyrodiil and ask other Wardens to link you their gear. PvPlayers are more inclined to brag about their builds than Trial runners.

Argonian,
Master's Ice Staff
5x Frostbite
5x Order's Wrath
I get 3680 Spell Dmg with 6300 Pen, 50% Crit Chance, and 32% Crit Dmg Done self buffed.

I use Frostbite,Nunatak and 4 piece diamond victory or night mother and got 40k damage and better stats and master ice staff really suck and I test both destructive and force pulse and realized closely that pulse do a better more damage than destructive with the same cost and for both pve and pvp which lead pulse is better and master is not worth it.

With the same stamina build, I lost 40k in DPS. When I tweaked the build, got different gear, I got it back 90, but it was way more complex and just annoying to do. It was just too hard to do in a real complex fight. AWKWARD. At least for me, I’m not top tier mid-maxer ubersmith.
Stam felt so bad, and really hard to sustain, solo felt worse. I quit for a long while. Came back, built the warden out as a type of Ice Druid. Starting to like it, even though I always prefer stamina. I’m not a guy that likes playing mages and stuff. BUT, I’m got a decent build, I do alright. But seems like now they’re going to change the warden again?
I’m kind of tired of the class feeling like an after thought.
