Adding large structures - how to minimise the slots used?

I'm very new to house editing, in fact the only house I've edited is the one I started this week: Gorinir Estate in Grahtwood, a bosmer property with lots of trees and plants, and 3 bosmer living pods. I want to stick to the bosmer aesthetic, but I was thinking of adding an Ayleid ruin to the estate, which still fits the theme I think, since Grahtwood has some of these ruins. I was lucky enough to get an Ayleid lightwell via antiquities a while back, and I want to build something around it.

That leads me to my question: how to build larger structures without using a lot of items? The only thing I can think of right now is to use larger items ***, but is there anything else that helps? The estate is a 'large' house, and I have ESO+, so my general item count is currently about 340/600.

*** e.g. like this one (Fargrave Colonnade Roof, Barrel), but I want to stick to the Ayleid theme for the structure.

there are no Ayleid structural furnishings sadly. there could be a few soon after Gold Road though i doubt it as the only new Ayleid furnishings in update 42 are antiquities.
And in the past we have only gotten structural furnishings in the same styles from the newly introduced styles like Necrom and Apocrypha with the last few updates.

there might be bosmer structural furnishings in the new Dawnwood style in the near future though that would be either update 43 or 45

Thanks! I guess I'll either have to do a fake Ayleid ruin somehow, or wait for those updates you mentioned. Currently, the lightwell is sitting in the estate, with 3 remnant of the false tower sitting near it, the sorcerer king's blade, and finally a jeweled skull of ayleid king sitting on the front of the blade's platform. So all I really wanted is to build a mini-ruin around it.

The UESP page on Ayleid furnishings mentions 'Ayleid Arch, Wide', but provides no details on how to get one.

"Ayleid Arch, Wide" is an antiquity in update 42/Gold Road so if there's no details yet then the lead probably hasn't been found on pts yet.

FYI that one looks incredible just plopped in the middle of the fountain out back of Mathiisen Manor. The Auridon architectural style is very Ayelid'esque. Love it.

I haven't done High Isle yet but the next thing I want to try with those lightwells is combining them with its achievement fountain. I'm hopeful that a pair of those in the two upper areas adjoining the entry to Grand Psijic Villa will help to drag the Alinor style which for my tastes is inferior to Auridon, in a more Auridon / Ayleid direction.

which fountain are you referring to? High isle does not have an achievement fountain

Sorry for the confusion. Not having it I didn't know it by name.

I meant the Firesong Spring, Basalt. Which is neither a fountain nor High Isle, but the adjoining DLC.

My hope is that it's the right size to put over the round garden / tree raised circular sections intended for trees / plants in the Grand Psijic Villa. Then drop the Ayleid Lightwells in those.

But I'm trying to catch up on content, finish all the grinds for new arcanists, keep up with events etc. etc.

There are a couple of ways you can use current furnishings to rig an ayleid design, and save a few slots.

Suggestion one - if using a round structure: The Dibella gazebo/shrine (can't recall the proper name off the top of my head) from Gold Coast, it will provide a framework for the structure. You can then augment that with the cheap blocks from Summerset, one side is a white brick pattern. You can use the moon basin from N. Elsweyr to form a roof and only have to disguise a few parts with greenery. If you do not have the ability to find antiquities, the Alinor home goods fencing and Markarth platforms will also work. To save slots, you can leave openings for windows and use the curved pieces as filler at top and bottom.

Suggestion two - ayleid bookcases. This will get expensive in item count and gold, but the bookcases are large and can be manipulated to form a structure that is reasonably sized. The backside of the bookcases has a nice pattern for visual interest and again, anything you don't like can be covered with vines/shrubs. These work very well if you want a square building.

As stated, these are just suggestions, but I have found them to work well in custom builds. Good luck!

Well, I minimised the number of rock/soil items today by creating my own steaming-hot spring. For the "crater" around the spring, I used 'rubble pile, ancient stone', I needed 12 of them to surround the 'firesong spring' in the middle, then I added 'steam of repose' (1200 crowns) to give the hot springs effect. I took this screendump while standing on a long ramp I created which takes me to a vantage point up next to the highest pod.

I'm new to house editing, so I'm still trying to work out what I can do with it.

As nobody has mentioned it there is an Ayleid fence/partition available that might be useful.

It is a Lux Vendor item and originally cost 20k but can probably be found at Guild Traders, however it was last available on the 12/05/23 so should be returning soon.

    7IWaPlI.png

I stood in front of it to show how big it is :)

The other items from that Lux Vendor week may be of interest too......

    Ayleid Sconce, Empty 4,000g
    Ayleid Switch, Ancient 4,000g
    Ayleid Pillar, Small Empty 5,000g
    Culanda Stone, Glowing 5,000g
    Varla Stone, Glowing 5,000g
    Ayleid Brazier, Stone 10,000g
    Ayleid Pillar, Large Empty 14,000g
    Ayleid Partition, Arched 20,000g

BenevolentBowD has a great list of all available Lux Vendor furnishings, showing names, prices and dates last available, it is well worth bookmarking as you are starting on your housing journey!! <3

This is so true, and really sad. When summerset dropped there were very few building structural furnishings. It's my favorite style by far, so it's such a shame new ones won't drop in future updates. There also aren't really any from the vvardenfell chapter, or from the base game, covering a wide array of interesting styles, and many beautiful cities and buildings.
It'd honestly be great if they allowed more of the cultures some representation in the structural furnishing category.

Though released with Necrom there is the Telvanni door. But just that. I've no idea what I'd do with it.

Many of the game's architectural styles don't really lend themselves well to being broken up into pieces.

From the base game, Auridon and some Dunmer buildings have curvy Ayleid roots. Bosmer pods obviously have literal roots. They'd have to sell whole buildings / trees.

Since we don't have Ayleid structural furnishings, you could make a cave and make it look like a half-ruined Ayleid structure with the Ayleid furnishings that we already have and will be getting in Gold Road. You could also make an aboveground ruin look overgrown using dense trees and vines.

You can use the base of the Ayleid Lightwell as a wall, but it's bright. And expensive.

For a large structure, there's not much atm. Necrom Roof, Gable is very white on one side. Necrom Platform, Large, is grayer but the closest fit we might have other than the Alinor or Markarth stuff.

It might be easier to make a large natural structure like a glen or cave with an Ayleid altar in the middle. like the Group Boss area in Bonesnap Ruins (Stormhaven).

    Good luck!

Yes, Alinor! The Alinor timeworn items fit quite well with Ayleid style. Using such as

    Alinor Column, Heavy Timeworn
    Alinor Column, Huge Timeworn
    Alinor Column, Jagged Timeworn
    Alinor Column, Slender Timeworn
    Alinor Column, Timeworn
    Alinor Column, Tumbled Timeworn
    Alinor Archway, Tall
    Alinor Archway, Timeworn
    Alinor Bench, Marble
    Alinor Bookshelf Wall, Timeworn
    Alinor Archway, Timeworn
    Alinor Archway, Tall

you could imply an Ayleid ruin. Most of them are drops or available in guild store. Also some of Imperial, High Isle, Daedric, Common, Indoril fit in here well.

Have a look at https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/furnishings-style/ as it shows large picture previews of items.

The lux vendor had gorgeous Ayleid partitions awhile ago so you should be able to find them on guild traders. The Shrine of DiBella antiquity from Golf Coast might work for you too.
