skill to proc crimson oath

I just got a Crimson Oath's Rive set and trying to trigger it with skills that I normally use:

Vigor: surprisingly doesn't proc. Maybe heal is not considered a buff?

Barbed trap: doesn't proc. Minor force is a buff but it doesn't trigger immediately I guess.

Nightblade's refreshing path: doesn't proc. Major expedition is a buff but it is given by the floor and not by the skill. Maybe.

Nightblade's dark cloak + shadow barrier passive: doesn't proc. Minor protection is always on so that's why it doesn't count? But the shadow barrier passive adds major resolve when the skill is used. So passives don't count? Or is this a bug?

Finally I was able to trigger it using Nightblade's Blur / Mirage which gives major evasion.

What other tank skills do you use to trigger crimson oath?

Patch 9.3.9.

Yes, practically touching. I experimented with landscape mobs.

Works well with Necro's Beckoning Armor. Consuming Darkness morphs work for a Nightblade. Prefer Bolstering Darkness on my NB tank, regardless of set

I wonder if you are casing Vigor too early. You have to be in combat for it to work, so casing it prior to attacking something doesn't count. Same for Trap, putting it down, then attacking and Refreshing Path, doing the pre-fight buff, might be the problem as the ability was cast before combat. You said you experimented with landscape mobs, which I've found to be wildly inconsistent when it comes to "In Combat," both for skills and for mounts.

trap is a weird case because you could cast it before combat, since it doesnt grant minor force at all until an enemy actually trips it, so you could place a trap, ranged attack the target to get in combat and when the enemy gets to the trap and triggers it, should still proc crimson oath

Resolving Vigor is what I use to proc Crimson Oath in PvP. It works.

I use crimson oath on my DK tank and I proc it by using the DK class skill that gives me major resolve and a small shield (forget what it's called, I'm not a DK main). I put it on my back bar, and I have Crimson Oath back bar only, so that frees my front bar setup to use void bash or puncturing remedy.

I use it as a backbar set on my tank. I simply use my armor buff to apply it to enemies. Mind that you must be engaged in combat for it to proc.
    Auri-El is my lord,
    Trinimac is my shield,
    Magnus is my mind.
