Why most uncommon/rare dye have to be glossy?

I am trying to create low profile outfits and find myself limited to common dyes.
Most uncommon and pretty much all rare dyes are glossy.
I bet this can look great on metallic textures (heavy armor), but how to go about textile (light armor)?
Anyone else experience this? Really wish I could enjoy some of the rarer colors without the gloss.

Just to illustrate:

I'm sure they wanted the Rare colors to be shiny, since a majority of players like being shiny and noticed.

    What I'd really like:

Every color comes in matte and glossy, and maybe an "in-between" option (I'm sure there is one, I just don't know what it would be called at this point).

Sometimes the glossy dyes are not glossy on certain clothing items and vice versa. I'd rather have that sorted out than change all of the dyes to be less glossy.

Honestly even without the gloss I think the muted colors on your first outfit look better. You look like an actual game element rather than an anime character inserted into eso. But yes, for some reason many fabrics turn into squeaky suits with a lotta dyes. I also wish for more dyes to be added that don't have this effect on fabrics.

The first dye combination looks absolutely beautiful. That said, I don’t care about the rarity of dyes (it’s not like anyone memorizes where they come from, unlike certain titles) but the availability of colors in the matte format. Every update I long for more matte browns and every update I am disappointed. There’s just no darker matte browns, they’re all too light for me.

I agree. I don't like bright and flashy and haven't been able to use any of the more rare dyes.

    I'd call that semi-matte.

I very much agree with you, OP. I've done numerous complaints about the dyes, and how we are lacking in simple matte ones.
It feels like every new dye need to be ridiculously saturated to the degree it doesn't fit in to the rest of the enviroment, and then on top of that also be glossy with extra effects like different coloured metallic sheens and what not.

It gets even more bizarre that we get these dyes, but we don't even have access to all basic colours or ones used by npcs or is the default colour on some motifs.
Like yellow. We have no pure or warm yellows. We got plenty of beige, gold and greenish yellow, but no neutral or warm yellow. We see it though on npcs and motifs.

Such as the Meridia worshippers in Western Skyrim. They got a warm yellow

House Monard style's default colour on the cloth part is a bright neutral yellow.

The Hlaalu style in it's concept got a bright yellow too, which is a bit less saturated in game, but we still can't match it.

Orange is also a bit lacking, we either got very brown/beige ones, the Anequina Sunrise which may be matte, but it's so saturated it's not useable on a lot of styles and costumes. Or they are glossy messes.

Getting more matte dyes of a variety of colours, hues and shades would be great. Especially if they are a bit more saturated than the "common" category dyes, but not as extreme as some are.

    That works, thanks!

    I vastly prefer matte dyes.

Some shinies are nice, but they need to let us have non-shiny dyes too.

Also, why is it so hard to get a good, non-shiny red color?

People don't, but ZOS does in the dye selector.

I know you can, but there's a drop down that lets you sort by hue instead.

And since the dyes tend to be either glossy or matte depending on material, slot, and item, you can't even separate them by that.

Yes, I'm used to it, and it more or less categorise it by shine. Almost all common and uncommon dyes are matte, with some exceptions. Meanwhile almost all rare ones are glossy and got some other odd effect.

Cardsharp Crimson is pretty good. Not too shiny (depends on fabric) and deeper red than the fighter guild one. Just need to beat Tales of Tribute NPCs enough to get it.

There's also Fire Drake's Flame. Which is the most red dye we got, and it is very red. It's also matte, in fact it's one of the few unusual matte dyes we have which will override the finish of all styles/costumes. It will make everything matte and very red, even too red imo on some styles and costumes.

Here dyed on mostly House Monard heavy (because it has a good mix of metal, leather and cloth). As can be seen, it even turns the metal matte.

I do lol, but I mostly use the glossy dyes. Not much anymore though, I've settled on a dye stamp from Valentines that turns Sapiarch Dress into a pink palooza.

The only problem I've had is with Darkstorm Emerald from the Markarth achievement which is fantastic except for being insanely glossy on most styles I've applied it to, except for the Scribes of Mora and even then it's borderline.

I think it's good to have some glossy so you can have shine where it makes sense like untarnished metal.

However, I'm lagging a bit with content - still haven't done Blackwood and later, except for Necrom and it does seem like recent DLC / chapter achievement dyes are very rich.

Though again I'll say I think it's good to give players access to use where it looks tasteful.

Not everyone can or event cares about that, but if they want to look shinier than a freshly buffed silverware set, I say let them.
