The issue is that you cannot be in a house (yours or anyone else's, primary or not) when the difficulty is changed for the group you're in. Otherwise you will end up in an endless loading screen when you try to port out. The game registers this as you loading out of and back into the house. (If you watch a groupmate try this in your house, you will see "[Player] departed" and "[Player] arrived" over and over again until they quit the game.)

Let the group lead reset the instance when you're all still in there (the instance), or port to somewhere else (not a house) first.
