Don’t get me started on my griffin mount.

Maybe the horse just has an unusual colouring... Due to some genetic fluke, most hairs of the regular coat covering the hindquarter around the tail have the same colour as the tail hair itself. The steed has a black, salt'n'pepper-y spot around the base of the tail, so to speak.

Sure, it is a certain suspension of disbelief, but if you can ignore the deformed hind legs of ESO horses, this should be doable. ;)

I thought that's what it was lol. I hope when I get mine I can continue to see it that way.

I don't get why you should gaslight yourself into seeing something you think you like but you don't.

U guys are spending WAY too much time looking at the horse's backside...

When I'm riding around Tamriel the back of the horse is what I see. I won't use this mount because of this smear.

obsessed with horse butts seems to be the main issue here

When the butt is in your face all the time due to camera placement, you'd expect the textures would be neutral or covered by armor so you don't notice the hind parts that much.

This texture does the exact opposite. If you get the concept behind color values in art, you know such elevated contrast makes it IMPOSSIBLE to ignore the poo stain.

I don’t know which mount is uglier. The Jubilee steed or the one you get for ichors in the archive. They’re both pretty bad. Lol

Well, I could go with that for anything NOT RL based, but horses are right out. If you're going to use horses in a fantasy world, then damn it, get them right! If you can't get them right then make up some "fantasy world" mount, where you can be as sloppy as you want to!

The way I see it is if humans can summon fireballs, and cats can walk around and talk and have a whole civilization, horses can have wonky legs. As long as it doesn't look dumb to me. Although, I suppose how dumb it looks will vary considerably by how trained your eye is. So, I definitely get why others don't feel the same. Especially those that are accustomed to horses! I have almost no experience with horses, so that helps with putting blinders on, so to speak. :D

Oh, this would be so wonderful IRL! I’d move there in a heartbeat if they would let me in! 😺

Well, that's true too. Probably there aren't a lot of us who are horse people. Still doesn't make me happy with the garbage animations.....

    Here's a thing.
Look at Agro from Shadow of the Colossus, or Torrent from Elden Ring, or any horse from Oblivion.
You don't have to be a horse person to see that the way they move is believable, graceful - just what you'd expect a horse to feel like from a player's perspective. It's not nearly accurate to IRL horses. But it works so much better than stiff wooden legs eso horses with questionable anatomy.

Exactly, the ESO horses are horrible, especially when you compare them with the Oblivion horses... I mean, how can they ignore this all the years? And I also don´t get it, they design amazing architecture, amazing landscapes etc. but the horses look like my like my niece painted it in elementary school.

^^ This, right here. I've been buried in fixing the wonkiness that happened with my addons during the swap to the new machine, so I hadn't got round to doing that comparison. Thanks Lugaldu! THAT is exactly what didn't happen with the horse skelly in the beginning....

    This is wonderful.

Imho this reference sketch would be complete with a smaller rider - so they don't look too much like Radahn and Leonard. :D Imagine an armored tank on top of this steed with such proportions. An ESO character which cannot control gravity like Radahn from another game does. Poor animal's back.

If Zos is not going to fix all the models, despite all the evidence provided that they're terrifying - I wonder if they're at least going to do something about the texture I reported, which adds salt to the wound. It's a simple fix, no?

Fair enough. I personally don't pay that much attention to my mount's backside. All that matters to me is the jubilee horse farts confetti and I'm carrying a cake, which is quite hilarious when your riding across Cyrodil

It's nothing new that ESO's horses are terrible. Bad bodies and often bad textures too.

Been numerous threads and comments about them (several by myself), and how we would like a new and nice horse model. Which they need to make a new skeleton and animation for, not just splashing new paint on our current broken thing.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

I thought the smear was bad then I just learned something else...

The rider is carrying a piece of cake on a plate and confetti trails behind the horse...

Even if they fix the smear there is no way I will ever ride this thing.

Unpopular opinion, but I've just got the horse and I love it! <3 I've given it to Azandar so, not only is he serving me cake all day long, but the camera is never in a position where I can see the horse's backside.
It's a tradition, or an old charter, or something...
