I'll be fishing soon to get Trueflame and maybe fill out some of the achievement fish.

What's everything that I should know about fishing as to make it more efficient?

Is it worth getting the fishing bonus from the one companion or will I wish that I hadn't gotten that bonus come later on?
Don't tank

honestly dont know if it impacts looting the style page

most of the stuff that buff fishing, only buff finding the rare fish by reducing the drop rate of the "rare fishing baits"

the companion bonus does also include faster reel in times, and there is a cp for faster reel in times, faster reel times = shorter until your next catch

regarding the companion bonus, if you dont want the keepsake you can just keep the companion active to treat it as a "toggle effect", the only thing that *might* be bugged with it is catching the crab-slaughter-crane in wrothgar, but i dont know for sure

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

there's a reason it's called fishing and not called catching.

use the food buff to get better fish.

I would assume the style page RNG isn't impacted by the fishing buffs, but:
My friend and I often go fishing together in ESO to get some of the achievements, but we also like our chances at perfect roe.... and I personally have found that using the food buff, Sharp's passive, and the CP fishing passive make it so that I get way too many trophy fish. Running the food buff and just Sharp's passive has been perfect though; I get the trophy fish in reasonable time along with a decent amount of normal fish to fillet.

I've been fishing a lot lately to complete the achievements to get the dyes.

I slot both CP fishing bonuses, have the Artaeum fish bowl food buff, and have the companion perk from Sharp-as-Night.

I don't know how the numbers shake out, but today I started the Coldharbour fishing achievement and I got the True Flame style page within an hour.

    It's fun with Sharp though.

And the CP for faster fishing makes it more manageable time-wise.

How is it relaxing? You stand AFK and once in awhile you press a button, it's not really relaxing at all.

    • Make sure you have Sharp out when fishing (unless you've maxed him out and have the passive).
    • If you don't have the recipe for Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl, go to Artaeum and fish for Waterlogged Psyjiic Satchels, which have a chance of dropping the recipe. This food increases the chance of rare fish.
    • There are some passives in the green Champion point tree that help with fishing.

I find the water sounds quite soothing. It's not something I want to do all the time, but now and then it's nice to just relax and fish a bit.

Sometimes you get burned out from fighting and farming stuff constantly and you just want to do something easy and enjoy the scenery.

Can also now confirm that I got Trueflame on my first "catch" tonight with just Sharp's passive and the food buff alone so I'd say it's definitely just some nonsense RNG. Took like 12 seconds and I'd say it was a waste of my food.

I wish it was like ff14 fishing. That's an actual fun and engrossing activity. Eso is just Press X Simulator.

    Fishing is hell.

But it has a pink dye tied to it so you need to do it.

Lol, I don't know about hell, exactly, but it's true I only started fishing for the dyes.

While I was doing so I began to enjoy the activity for its mellow quality. Especially in Al'ikr, with some of the fishing spots by the dolmens. I fished peacefully and watched the train of dolmen runners hustle back and forth, back and forth, their own little river of activity.

Different strokes for different folks. I too find it quite relaxing.

I have 4 master anglers. Working on two more. It's still not boring to me, it's relaxing. It's certainly much better than combat!

Fishing is Great. I am a Master Angler. Cyro was not bad. The worst for me was Coldharbour. There was 1 Fish I could not get my hands on for literally a week Straight maybe longer. My RNG was maddening lol...

As for Style Pages. I wish ESO would confirm this but if you're going for Rare Pages, I would assume you would not want any Passives beside Reel Technique in green CP to reel fish in faster. I would want less trophy fish to increase my chances for Style Pages.

I actually really think that ZOS did a really good job with the fishing in this game. It does, for me at least, feel really chill when I am doing it, and you get to see some really lovely landscapes while you are searching for the perfect fishing spot!

That said, there are Champion points you can spend that will make it easier and faster for you got get your prize catch, as well as the food buff Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl, and having the companion Sharp-As-Night with you while you fish all helps to increase your chances of getting the rarer catches. Whether or not that will increase your RNG chances of getting the style page associated with the anniversary event, is another thing entirely, but I got the sword style page after 8 or 9 fishing holes, with all of the above active while fishing in Summerset.

I spent some time in Telvanni Peninsula fishing today, and I saw ships leave Vivec City and sail around the coast. I didn’t know there were moving ships outside of High Isle.

I also saw a group of silt striders moving in a line offshore too.
