Pointing out why I like them, encouraging others to try, and maybe there are some points that could potentially make full level BGs more fun:
I took part in more BGs this past weekend to level and try out more Arcanist abilities in combat — yes, there were lots of players also playing Arcanists, but at least at this level, that didn’t make the difference in which team won. The biggest factors as far as I could see were the PUG teams that managed to stay together and work together better, and some skilled players stood out to me, most often nightblades.
I like under 50 BGs because the fights are often longer, it’s not insta-death and wait to respawn ad nauseam. This is more enjoyable for me and I feel I learn from it better as I’m seeing what my abilities do to opponents and likewise learning what abilities to watch out for from my opponents. There are very very few of the lame gimmicky proc sets. I think I ran into someone wearing Dark Convergence in one BG, but it was by far the exception. Finally, the matches are quite varied. The best are a close three-way contest, but there were also ones where one team was by far stronger and the fight was fiercest for second place. I enjoy close matches the most, but so long as everyone’s queuing solo so no one’s always on a losing team (when particular players perhaps carry more weight in who wins and loses) then I’m happy.
For context, I try to go decently prepared, gear assembled from drops supplemented by my crafter, usually blue, and I’m often pushing how long I am wearing it. Plus my PvP ability is middling at best; I’m not there to newb stomp but to play against people closer to my ability level and learn from those who are better, and beat me primarily with their abilities and strategy, with gear and proc cheese a relatively unimportant factor.
Anyway, I enjoyed Deathmatch weekend and hope that others did as well, whatever level you play at!
