What do you think the Q4/24 PvP feature will be?

As announced during the livestream back in January, in the fourth quarter of this year the main feature will be something for PvP. We already have battlegrounds, we have Cyrodiil and we have dueling. So what is missing? I can imagine two things:

- larger battlegrounds that will be called something else, maybe 12v12v12 for a total of 36 players

- a battle royal type of game mode like WoW just introduced with Plunderstorm

What I also would love to see would be the PvP Justice System, but I think that’s way too complicated to implement to be a thing. So… what do you think we‘re getting in Q4?

    I loved Nuclear Winter in Fallout 76, so not entirely opposed to Battle Royale type modes on RPGs, but just can't see it being good in ESO. Especially given how tanky the meta has been for ages.

    Sorry to crush your dreams, but the devs said some time ago that they will NEVER EVER implement a PvP Justice System, because there would be way too many ways to abuse the system. Also 12v12v12 groups for Battlegrounds are more than unlikely, because of two reasons. The first one being that 36 players would stress out the BG server-instances so much that it would be nothing more than a lag-rubber-banding show and the second reason being, that there are not enough players to fill up a 12v12v12 BG.

    To give an answer to your question.

    I think it may be some QoL improvements like solving the *stuck in combat bug* or destructible resource towers (to stop the stupid Res-Tower-AP-Farm) or perhaps new sieges you can use against Ball-Groups (some which instantly will kill those groups :smiley: !!!) or it also could be a revamp of the emp-system (in a way that will allow more people to get emp and not the same 10-20 players over and over again).

    Another possibility I just thought of could be an overhaul regarding the skill-system, so that we will have pve-only and pvp-only skills in the future. But I do think this would be too much work, way to complicated and would screw up a lot of things :( .


    Ps.: Just for fun. I great thing would be reducing PvP to a state where player chars walk around in their underwear and can only use stones and sticks with 1 DPS each :lol: !

    It will probably be a battle royale mode where you find powerups similar to what's available in the Endless Archives. I'm here for it, that sounds sick.

    Mentioned this in another thread, here's what I hope:
    • something between battlegrounds and Cyrodiil
    • 12v12 (please no 12v12v12), separate queue for solo and premades
    • each side has one keep, maybe 1-3 central outposts/resources to provide buffs when captured
    • siege (obviously)
    • no mounting, short travel distances (in combat bug less of an issue)
    • maybe groups of guards spawning at the home keep and travelling to the other keep, fighting along the way
    • first team to capture the enemy keep wins
    This would allow organized groups to really shine, knowing they'll face a similar opponent (unlike the zerglings they currently farm in cyro). The server load this generates would be much more predictable than what happens now in Cyrodiil. Performance in cyro might even improve if organized groups prefer this new game mode. And the separate queues would still leave this accessible for solo pvp players.

    Unfortunately it won't be QOL improvements. It was stated in a live stream that we are getting an entirely new system that has nothing to do with Cyrodiil, BG, or IC.

    I'm personally hoping for a teamless battle royale mode. I'm going to guess that the new PVP mode may have something to do with the other new system we're getting- scribing

    I think the pvp feature will just be cosmetics or skins to be honest. Maybe siege weapons skins, or some type of collectible (i'm leaning toward it being a collectible reward item)

    I highly doubt in ZoS to deliver on anything meaningful pvp wise when they don't even consider the wants and needs of PVP players.

    Still no support for Ravenwatch server and it still has an outdated setlist that the devs refuse to update despite new sets being introduced, no mention of the pop cap stress test or associated pop numbers, no relevant support for Battlegrounds for years and the last "change" they did was Battleground weekends which is not really a "feature" it's just re-running the same gamemodes over and over again and not new content.

    The only thing I can credit zos for is the change to Emperorship to make the emperor buff deteriorate with less emp keeps which was a good change.

    That aside I'd be very hard pressed to believe Zos even think about pvp.

    Infinite Archive but for PvP. They can reuse the same tech and swap out the maps and monsters for players. Maybe a Gold Road themed Colovian Gladiator "Infinite Arena" where you get matched up with 1-2 players at a time and fight it out.

    Leaderboard, MMR, PvP rewards, etc

    Thank god, bug fixes and quality of life changes are not features. These are things that are meant to be baseline and not to be seen as something great or special. Making your game run is crucial and should be the bare minimum.

    That said… I guess a battleground with just two sides could work as well if it‘s separated from the Three Banner War. This can be achieved if it’s some kind of tournament or whatever, so really easy to implement. I think 12v12 would be too small, either 16v16 or 20v20 would be nice. New World has a PvEvP game mode called Outpost Rush, so it could also be something like that.

    I‘m not completely against a battle royal PvP mode, but with ESOs balance this could be really tricky. And I don’t want it to be completely separated from the game like WoW‘s Plunderstorm.

    If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Ranked Duelling.

    We got the Leaderboards for Tribute, it seems only natural that an actual combat 1v1 PvP piece of content would also get a similar system. Plus, it wouldn't be much to add as Duelling is already in the game, but allowing people to queue for it (and getting duellers away from populated wayshrines) would be welcome for a lot of people.

    They do need to very carefully thread the needle for any PvP content though. The PvP community has been neglected for far too long, but ZOS seems to know that there's about a 0% chance that they'll convert their casual players to PvPers no matter what they do. That means that any new PvP content would have to pull its players from 1) other games (which seems unlikely to happen), or 2) the current PvP playerbase. And spreading the current PvP playerbase much thinner will make the already untenable BG queues and empty Cyro maps even worse than they are. But if the new shiny thing just takes two people out at a time for a quick match (or a best-2-out-of-3 contest), that wouldn't have much affect on the current PvP systems.

    I hope it is not XvXvX. I think the three-way in BGs is part of their problem though the design of some of the objective-based matches leaves something to be desired. That comes from someone who has enjoyed objective-based PvP in several games., IMO.

    I hope it will be a rework to ic.
    Everyone outside your group is hostile to you.
    Spawn in any zone.
    Max group size 6 people.
    Can only get the 50 percent telvar from enemy players equal to what you have on you.

    This is what small scale people dream of. No zergs, gankers have to risk telvar to get telvar.

    What it will likely be is a 3v3 or 4v4 arena.
    Or house combat / gvg finder / group duels.

    Hoping for an huge IC rework, or a new PVP zone with smaller group caps.

    I'm expecting it'll be some sort of custom BG/arena thing or an expansion to dueling, though.

    Oh, what else would be fantastic is PvP in housing spaces. Imagine the options for that, you would have so much more layouts for battles. It‘s highly unlikely though.

    I personally hope it‘s not small arenas. We need a small scale Cyrodiil or something akin to that in my opinion.

    The only thing I care about is improving the PvP we already have. Why would they focus on anything other than improving Cyrodiil anyway? Just give us the server resources to make what we already have work properly with higher population caps.

    I have no idea but I would just like the stuck in combat bug fixed, Cyro lag & perfomance fixes, the sewers having more Tel Var, Tel Var motifs being cheaper, 2 team battlegrounds, and skill based MMR. As well as the getting stuck in a floor/wall in BGs.

    Look at the new dungeons, and the secret bosses in Oathsworn where you have to do MOBA style stuff...my guess is they'll do something like that. You have to battle another team and manage little minions at the same time. They probably experimented with it in Oathsworn, they tend to reuse stuff after all.

    I think it will be something new that nobody has asked for because they can't/don't want to fix pvp, so they'll introduce something to try and keep pvpers happy.

    Ehhhh some kind of king of the hill/tower defence/micro siege thing.

    Well destructable towers were a thing once, they removed it. But it was so cool, you could also destroy the inner working of the 3 Gate castles, shooting down the stairs and all.

    Well, the 2 new companions are releasing along with the new pvp feature...so maybe companion dueling? 😅 If not that, then maybe a 2 v 2 mode or pvp arena with proper leaderboards.

    Well I am expecting something big, and not just a tweak or a minor addition to something already existing, such as bigger team Battleground fights or custom matches. They said Q4 updates would be for 'Tentpole systems', so a big addition that is it's own system, such as how the IA is.

    Now as for what *exactly* I think this will be is beyond me. Whatever it is though, I just want it to be thought out, decent, not a quick cop out and have actual work put into it, and perhaps more importantly, to *actually work*

    I still get offended every time I see ToT referred to as PvP. But ya, you're probably right, or at least very close to right.
