"In U41 we added PS4 controller support for PC"

Maybe I'm missing something, or I'm blind. How does this work? I play with a PS controller on PC and it still shows the XBOX controller layout. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Is it supposed to auto-detect and it isn't? Am I just stupid?

Thanks for any and all help.

If you were running a PlayStation controller for ESO before, you had to have used some sort of third party driver to get the game to recognize your controller. Otherwise ESO was incapable of seeing you had a controller. Did you remove that? It sounds like it’s still being used and so the game still thinks the controller is an Xbox one.

I was running DS4Windows. The game showed the Xbox keybinds as a result. I had to remove DS4Windows to prevent the double input issue, and the game now properly recognizes the PlayStation controller and gives the appropriate icons for keybinds.

I play through steam. The controller is set through there as a Playstation controller. I used PS4 Buttons add-on to change the XBOX controller layout in the game, but when I remove said add-on, the layout goes back to XBOX. Never used DS4Windows.

So Steam is using input emulation to make your controller appear as an Xbox controller to ESO, just like DS4Windows was doing for me. In other threads there have been reports that continuing to use this input from Steam can now cause fps drops and other issues, since the game is recognizing both the actual controller itself now as well as the input emulation from Steam.

If you disable Steam input for the controller, does the game recognize it properly and use PS icons? You may have to close the game while doing that or restart it afterwards, as I encountered serious issues just stopping DS4Windows while the game was running. (The controller’s icons updated to PS ones, but the map and mounting functions were entirely disabled until I restarted.)

By disabling the controller in Steam, the game no longer reacts to it at all. It's as if there is no controller being detected.

Is your controller connected wired or wirelessly? ESO’s new support for PlayStation controllers seems not to include wireless functionality at all, based on what I’ve seen on my computers and what some other players have reported here.

It was wireless. Hooking it up with a cord did fix the issue. This was never mentioned in the notes. Thank you for all your help.

Sure thing! Glad it’s working. Sorry it’s a bit of a hassle as we all figure out how it works now.
