ZOS, please don't change the character selection screen colors

I really like this new screen, it's so warm and welcoming. A very nice change to the character screens we had before.

My characters like it as well. Especially my litte green elf seems to enjoy it a lot.

So please, please - do not change it!

I am little bit with you. But why the hell should I stay at the selection screen for so long that my eyes get tired? Do you stare at the selection screen for hours?

Just a few seconds is long enough to cause discomfort. It's like the bright flashes of light that happen with some quests after defeating a story boss, and the flashes when scrying. It only takes a second to cause pain.

Yes. Since a while now - maybe a year? You can select it in Audio settings IIRC. Or..... Hmm. Did it ever get fixed to work right on consoles?

Autumn/Rustic is my jam. (just stop by our guild house lol).

I'm stoked for Gold Road and would personally love it if character select never changed again (not feasible, I know!)

But this does kinda miss the mark for me.
The colors/brightness/saturation are just a bit off. I've never had that issue before this new autumn screen.

To those suggesting changing video settings...I have them set to make the *game* look right (and it does), it's not realistic to change those settings for something you see for 5 seconds. (unless that makes your game look better, too).

I do think ZOS could make some tweaks to this to make it look a bit richer on the *average* setup. Yeah I know there's a bazillion different hardware & screen combos out there. They'd have to figure out if a large percentage of people have issues like the people pointing this out.

But if they don't change anything, I can live with it. Best description I can give is that it just doesn't feel "rich" like this game usually does. I really hope the actual in-game graphics for Gold Road are a home run. I have been dying for a "fall" zone since this game launched. Glenumbra/The Rift/etc are nice but Gold Road looks like it's gonna be my fave zone!

(for context my fave spot in any game was the Trollshaws in LOTRO, especially around Ford of Bruinen). In newer games, it's Everfall in New World.

Personally I'm not a fan of the new character selection screen. It's not so much the color scheme of the background, it's the orange lighting of the scene that I dislike. To be blunt, the overly warm lighting clashes with the aesthetics of a number of my characters.

I'd prefer if the lighting were toned down to be more neutral, but I can appreciate that others like how it is. Ideally we could get the option to choose one of the prior chapter scenes similar to how we can choose which chapter music plays on the selection screen, as has already been suggested.

For those pointing out how things like users monitors plays a role in the output they get, here's the thing. If someone's video settings give them a good experience, and this log in screen is the outlier, why should they compromise their video settings everywhere to avoid this one pain point?

For example this is what I get, with a reshade designed to darken things with higher color saturation. Everything the fog touches, is GOLD, and it is like accidentally switching to light mode on discord with the lights off, just flash banging yourself after every load screen into the game.

And here is what the same modifications result in on a scene with normal lighting. What ZOS currently has in the game is well beyond what normal lighting is, suitable for something like a dramatic scene or the like, where the overwhelming gold makes sense. But this for a year is excessive, same character outfit colors by the way, for those interested in seeing how the gold trim was made, even more gold.

Also silver, you and I know that if ax grinding was a renewable energy source, we'd have the worlds need for power solved, probably.

yea it got fixed on consoles pretty soon after the feature got added

yea it got fixed on consoles pretty soon after the feature got added

Thanks. I don't always know what happens with stuff that consoles have issues with. Never used them....

I spent a few minutes looking at the character selection screen to test if it'd cause discomfort. It didn't. I have no idea if I was lucky with my video settings, if my eyes are just different from some of the people here or a combination of these two.

While I like the screen, I have to say the orange feels excessive. I don't think it needed to be so... almost everywhere. In any case, I too agree giving us the option to choose which background we want would be quite nice.

Since we're sharing screenshots, here's mine.

It's quite interesting how the picture is so different from what I actually saw in game. My character here is darker and the orange does hurt a bit. My horse is also a bit darker and, for lack of a better technical term, looks less detailed.
