Console pleeb here following the PC update threads to see what we are getting in 2 weeks and this part of the patch notes caught some eyeballs:

What are "Guild Events"? In the context of the patch notes, I'm kinda assuming it means more like "guild actions" that are already recorded such as depositing/withdrawing gold/items, trader sales, and claiming/releasing alliance resources in Cyrodiil. But then the idea of new and different categories mentioned in the last bullet point also brings up questions. I haven't seen anything in the sea of the PTS category about any addition of "Guild Events", which the term "event" makes you think of... well, actual events that people participate in for goodies. Is something being added for guild members to participate in as an event or is "event" really just an odd term for the guild "actions" I've already described?

If it was a new type of activity they'd have both promoted and explained it better.

This is just changing how the Guild History tab works. As you said 'events' is just another words for 'actions' in this case. IMO it's a strange wording choice, but not a hidden clue that there's going to be new things for guilds to do.

See, that is also an assumption I would normally make, but there's been some... let's just say some interesting series of events and happenings this year that honestly make me leery of simply making such assumptions anymore.

    At all.

I don't say that as a knock, just as brutal honesty.

That's why I'd like to be sure the weird wording really is meant to be guild "actions" and not some random new thing.

Event in this case is individual entry/record in logs/guild history.

Just dev-speak. An event is something that causes a notification to a log, or UI add-on.

The guild event I noticed, and am very happy about, is that I can now see a history of my gold deposits to the guild bank. Now we can track our donations and dues.

"event" in this case is referring to any logged action (member joined, member left, member promotion/demotion, guild store transactions, guild bank transactions, MOTD update, etc)

while in terms of the game you would think event = new life festival, but in programming speak an event is just some action that is a change from the previous state (such as things i mentioned in the first sentence)
