So I know I'm beating a dead horse here but something has got to give with the Jump/interact/talk button all being the A button (on Xbox). I'm tired of accidentally stealing from merchants who move at the last second and I don't want to turn off stealing as I sometimes want to purposefully steal, and I'm tired of running along to jump over a low wall only to find myself suddenly reading a nearby book. The worse situation I've been in is when I'm stuck in a small confined area, like inside a small boat or those small fire pits in some buildings, and I'm unable to jump out because every direction I look in the A button is trying to talk to a nearby NPC. Unfortunately using an elite controller doesn't fix this as remapping A still results in a button doing all three things. There is an option in the settings for three different control schemes and template C does separate the Jump from the talk/interact, but the Jump becomes Left stick click which is unintuitive (can be remedied with an elite) but the problem of talk/interact being the same remains, also template C makes weapon swap by long pressing Y which is not good when you're in the heat of battle and need to swap quickly. So I want to propose a fourth template. Template D. Keep jump on A, but this is the only thing A does. To talk to a NPC press right on D pad, this may seem awkward at first but normally I'm not trying to talk to an NPC while making quick decisions and I'll be able to take a moment to move my thumb to the D pad because I'm not in a heat of the moment situation. As far as I'm concerned swapping quest with the right D pad can completely go and I wouldn't miss it, but if people are hellbent on keeping that, then a long press on right D pad to talk to NPCs and quick tap to cycle through quests. Then a long press down on D pad to switch camera view and tap down on D pad to interact with objects. This will prevent accidentally stealing. The tap down on D pad to interact might also feel awkward at first but like before, usually I'm not in the heat of battle when opening chests or flipping switches etc, so the extra time it takes to move my thumb to D pad wouldn't matter much.
